I’m not exactly sure who decided that small, semi-automatic pistols previously restricted to single-stack magazines could, all of the sudden, accept double-column magazines, but the shooting public has unquestionably embraced the innovation. In fact, the first guns in this new double-stack, micro-compact category seem to be even a touch smaller than their single-stack predecessors. The size and capacity of these guns have injected excitement into the new-firearm market by offering consumers fullsize capacity in sub-, or even smaller-than-subcompact pistol packages. |

From the 2012 Democratic Party Platform: “We recognize that the individual right to bear arms is an important part of the American tradition, and…will preserve Americans' Second Amendment right to own and use firearms. We believe that the right to own firearms is subject to reasonable regulation. We understand the terrible consequences of gun violence; it serves as a reminder that life is fragile, and our time here is limited and precious. |

If you are going to build guns and all the accessories that go with them, then why not jump into building your line of ammo? When SIG decided to get in the ammo business in 2014, it was part of the Complete Systems Provider strategy. The ideal is to be a turnkey vendor for guns, ammo, optics, suppressors and accessories. SIG as a company shoots millions of rounds a year testing their firearms and running the SIG Academy, so to produce their own ammunition was a logical step. |

I’ve met lots of police officers who said they would never go door-to-door and confiscate guns. I’ve also met officers who would. Seizing someone’s property is a slippery slope, and the edge is closer than you might think. Several Democrat presidential candidates already called for gun-confiscation. None of the Democrat candidates denounced it.
Consider how gun confiscation plays out from the police officer’s perspective. Some states have gun-confiscation laws in place already. |

The FBI Uniform Crime Report for 2018 shows a slight decline in the number of homicides committed with firearms and a drop in murders overall, suggesting that a push for more restrictive gun control laws may not be necessary.
As noted by the FBI in a Monday news release, “For the second consecutive year, the estimated number of violent crimes in the nation decreased when compared with the previous year’s statistics, according to FBI figures released today. In 2018, violent crime was down 3.3 percent from the 2017 number. Property crimes also dropped 6.3 percent, marking the 16th consecutive year the collective estimates for these offenses declined.” |

Vice suggested on Monday that President Trump is using impeachment to avoid instituting more gun control.
Vice reports that Republicans indicated Trump is torpedoing gun control, but the only Republican to whom the media outlet directly attributes a quote is Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC). And Graham does not allege Trump is avoiding gun control. Rather, he says, “I think we’re really close on compromise on a grant program for protective orders, and we’re still working on background check. I’m still hopeful we can get there.”

With a talent for all things mechanical, Richard “Dick” Speer started CCI (Cascade Cartridge, Inc.) in 1951, after realizing his brother Vernon’s success with Speer Bullets. Dick’s experience as a machinist at Boeing Aircraft’s Seattle plant gave him the ability to produce quality cases, which began in a small room at his brother’s Speer Bullets plant.

Just when you thought the market could not bear another polymer-frame, double-stack 9 mm handgun, Stoeger Industries makes a strong case for one more with the STR-9. You will be forgiven if you didn’t know Stoeger was even making handguns. While the STR-9 is not the company’s first foray into the pistol market, the prior models just didn’t get a lot of traction. Stoeger is hopeful the STR-9 is going to broaden its reputation beyond affordable shotguns, and this is definitely a notable start.

It takes more than virtue signaling to make us safer. That is the message I took away from the 2019 Gun Rights Policy Conference. I met the people who are doing the real work of making us safer at home, at our offices, and in our schools. They live with the real-world problems that go far beyond 144 character solutions and political press-releases. I came away with hope, but progress isn’t easy. |

I was pregnant with our second child (a son) the day I went to my daughter’s preschool for a tour. The kind head of school showed us the classrooms and talked about their philosophy on early childhood education. Then, she told us about school safety, including the preparations in place in the event of a school shooting. Maybe it was the pregnancy hormones, or just the thought of my then two-year-old daughter huddling with other toddlers in the corner of a classroom in a lockdown situation, but I lost it. I started crying. It was embarrassing! |

I have a regular weekend routine that provides quite the yin-and-yang experience: every Saturday, I’ll spend some time at the gun range, followed by a yoga class. One of the unintended benefits of this routine is that I get to interact with two groups of people who are generally on opposite ends of the cultural and political spectrum. My commute from one to the other is no more than ten minutes.

Anti-gunners talk about how bad firearms are. They contend that guns are the only things that allow criminals to commit horrific acts against their fellow citizens. They say no one in a “civilized” society needs a gun. What they never acknowledge, however, is that among the most vulnerable people in society often need—and use—a firearm to protect themselves.
