"At the recent Gun Rights Policy Conference in Saint Louis, Missouri I had the privilege of introducing a couple of resolutions that were adopted by the assembly. The first dealt with the recent attempt by Customs and Border Protection to classify certain 'easy open' pocket knives as 'switchblades,' ... My resolution suggested that since the problem of switchblades and switchblade crime was primarily a figment of Hollywood ... and since regulating tools is never a reasonable response to bad behavior, that the rights community should support the outright repeal of the Federal Switchblade Act and any other such laws which are intended to modify behavior by restricting tools. This resolution passed resoundingly with no real discussion." ... |

"It's a good day for the NRA and gun rights activists. Two recent polls from Rasmussen and Gallup indicate that Americans increasingly oppose stricter gun laws."
"Rasmussen Reports in a survey conducted earlier this week shows that 39% of Americans want stricter gun laws against 50% who are opposed to such a measure. Previous surveys suggested that citizens were narrowly divided on the topic making the new margin of eleven-percentage points noteworthy. Women continue to be evenly divided on the topic but men oppose stricter laws by 23%. Nearly two-thirds of Democrats (65%) are in favor of tighter restrictions but 69% of Republicans and 62% of those unaffiliated feel differently." ... |

"Well, it has finally happened. A legally armed citizen in Randolph, MA lost his temper and shot his next door neighbor during a dispute about yard leaves. According to the logic of the Brady Campaign Against Gun Violence it is part and parcel of their argument that guns in the hands of ordinary folks lead to bloodshed. I cannot argue that this didn't happen. It even appears that he was a concealed carry permit holder. Does this provide credence to the position that guns should be outlawed, or locked up separate from ammunition at all times? I think not."

A customer at a Northeast Philadelphia pizza shop was shot and critically wounded on Thursday night during a hold-up.
It happened shortly before 9pm in the 2000 block of Cottman Avenue, not far from the intersection of Cottman and Castor Avenues.
The 52-year-old man was shot in the chest. Police aren't sure if he tried to stop the gunman or if he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. He was taken to Aria Hospital Torresdale Division, where he remained in extremely critical condition.
Police say they've brought several people in for questioning as the investigation into the robbery continues. -------

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
Besides the advantage of being armed, which the Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation, the existence of subordinate governments, to which the people are attached, and by which the militia officers are appointed, forms a barrier against the enterprises of ambition, more insurmountable than any which a simple government of any form can admit of. Notwithstanding the military establishments in the several kingdoms of Europe, which are carried as far as the public resources will bear, the governments are afraid to trust the people with arms. — James Madison, The Federalist Papers, No. 46 |
