And what those videos also show, authorities say, is that the suspect Nikhom Thephakaysone, 30, had already pulled out his gun three of four times while aboard the crowded car, but the dozen passengers aboard were so hypnotized by their phones and tablets they failed to notice; not when he pointed the .45-caliber pistol across the aisle, nor even when he wiped his nose with the hand holding the gun. |

Washington Metropolitan Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier seems to think that gun-control laws don’t apply to the liberal elite. The police chief helped Sen. Dianne Feinstein acquire “assault weapons,” [snip]
All of these firearms are illegal in the city — even on federal property — owing to the District’s law banning rifles with a detachable magazine and such features as a pistol grip or folding stock and all firearms with a magazines capacity of more than 10 rounds.

Officers checked their IDs and also looked over one man’s concealed carry licenses after he admitted he was carrying another firearm that was out of view. The stop lasted a few minutes, and the men were allowed to continue walking. One of the men said he was enjoying the weather and that they were looking for a hot dog vendor.

Open carry is legal in Wisconsin, and police said officers are trained to recognize all residents’ constitutional rights. In the past, police have received calls about people openly carrying pistols on their hips, but he does not recall an incident involving long guns, Galvin said. |

The "it" here refers to a Second Amendment absolutism that rejects as unconstitutional restrictions on the right of Americans to buy, sell, transport, and carry firearms as they see fit. For the last 30 years, no single figure has done more to advance this vision of an Armed America than the diminutive, bow-tied organizer behind the Gun Rights Policy Conference. Though few Americans have ever heard of Alan Gottlieb, we live in a country he helped create. |

An elderly woman in Pendleton, South Carolina, shot at a man who broke into her home Monday afternoon and was beating her friend with a baseball bat, local media reported.
Last month, Frances Ward, 72, hired Richard Keese, 54, to fix her car last month, but when Keese showed back up at her house on Monday, he had ill intentions.
As Keese forced his way through the front door, Ward’s friend, who does not wish to be identified, grabbed a baseball bat for protection. But once inside the home, Keese simply snatched the bat from the friend and proceeded to beat her with it, throwing her up against a window and breaking the glass in the process. |

Then, he said he was told, "This is going to go one of two ways. I can take you to the basement and kill you, or I'm going to let you do down the street and you'll be dead by the end of the day if you rat on me."
He said he was walked back out of the house with the gun to his back, when he turned, grabbed his own gun and fired. He picked up the boyfriend's gun to make sure he couldn't use it against him and ran away. He says he later turned both weapons over to police. |

It is a basic principal of law that the harms that come about due to a criminal attack are the responsibility of the criminal who perpetrated the crime. This is not a new invention of the legislature but a longstanding tenant of law.
There are legislators who are now actively seeking to pass legislation that would punish law abiding citizens who act in necessary defense of themselves, their friends, and their families rather than placing that liability on the criminal should any harm befall a bystander due to an act of self-defense. |

Should families with children have guns in the home? The answer depends on your family’s personal situation, your access to law enforcement and your willingness to take the time to be a responsible gun owner. Guns must be kept secure from children, preferably in a gun safe with biometric technology.
As your kids get older, be aware that you may have to change your decision about gun ownership.
Do not keep a gun in the home if any member of the household has a history of depression, anger, violence, or unstable mental health.
If your teen shows signs of depression, consider finding a new home for your gun. Even the best plans for gun security often fail. |

JPD has said William Brown's death remains under investigation, but at the time of the shooting, JPD Assistant Chief Lee Vance told a TV reporter that police did not make an arrest because witnesses said Brown initiated a gun battle.
"He shot at the other guy first. Apparently he missed, then the other guy returned fire striking him about 12 times. It's not for me to judge the amount of rounds that were fired. I don't know if the amount of times he fired his weapon is of any circumstance at this point," Vance told WLBT-TV's Cheryl Lasseter. |

Unlike the previous recall campaign, in which gun rights activists unseated two senators in Democratic-leaning districts, Hudak, who is in her second term, seems like a prime candidate for defeat. She barely won re-election last year, defeating her Republican opponent by just 584 votes. The presence of a third-party candidate who drew votes away from the Republican probably helped her.
...
Interestingly, Colorado Republicans aren’t fond of the recall. Despite the fact that a successful recall campaign by gun rights activists would end Democratic control of the state Senate, the state GOP chairman said that it Republicans says it could hurt their chances of bigger gains in 2014. |

There wasn't much talking as the 'Second Amendment March' made its way towards the Capitol, but when you have a gun strapped to your back, what else is there to say?
Several months after the Sandy Hook Elementary put the spotlight on gun control laws, Michigan Open Carry President Phillip Hofmeister says the urgency is still there to fight back.
"We're just here today to reaffirm our belief in the Second Amendment and remind our state representatives that we're still here," said Hofmeister.
That meant taking the issue and their guns to lawmakers directly, in the Capitol and House Office Building. |

Yesterday’s Seattle Times picked up a fraction of a Tuesday story in the Portland Oregonian about the jump in concealed handgun licenses in Oregon, which still lag behind Washington and reflect a national trend that finds more people arming up.
As this column reported, Washington had more than 445,000 active concealed pistol licenses back on Sept. 19, and when Examiner checks again with the Department of Licensing in Olympia next week, that figure will likely shift upwards again. |

The Gabrielle Giffords-backed group Americans for Responsible Solutions will invest heavily in the final weeks of Virginia’s off-year elections and is poised to launch a campaign program targeting the statewide races for governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general, POLITICO has learned.
The gun control advocacy organization — founded by Giffords, the former Arizona congresswoman, and her husband Mark Kelly — will spend at least what it takes to counter the half-million-dollar campaign the National Rifle Association has announced in the state, an ARS source said. |
