In last year’s pivotal case New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen, the U.S. Supreme Court held that to be valid under the Second Amendment, laws regulating firearms must be consistent with “this Nation’s historical tradition of firearms regulation.” That mandate has now created an urgent need for scholarly, accurate, exhaustively-researched, and – above all – trustworthy chronicles of how firearms have been treated under American law since the Second Amendment was ratified. |

Let’s face it: Gun cleaning can seem overwhelming to the newcomer. Poking my head into Brownells, there’s hundreds of different cleaners, degreasers, oils and devices — and just as many opinions among shooters about which ones to use and how often to use them. While I can’t say whether the newest fluids to hit the market outperform what I’ve been using for years, I can share four of my own “secret” tips that make a big difference when it comes to tackling a chore I’ve never particularly enjoyed. |

America appears to be becoming a society with fewer and fewer laws, or at least not enforcing those that remain on the books. We have decriminalized "recreational" drugs and reduced felonies into minor misdemeanors while ignoring open looting and rioting save in certain politically charged circumstances. Cities have downsized their police departments while no longer prosecuting quality-of-life offenses such as public urination. Filth and open drug markets are now tolerated as just part of urban life. |

A fusillade of amicus briefs has now been filed in support of affirmance of the Fifth Circuit's decision invalidating the federal ban on possession of a firearm while under a domestic violence restraining order (DVRO). While no one countenances the alleged behavior of respondent Zackey Rahimi, the various amici persuasively argue that the federal law – 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(8) – facially violates the Second Amendment. |

So-called “red flag laws” have become a recent favorite of gun control activists, who portray them as a way to keep firearms out of “dangerous hands.” The laws empower judges to issue case-by-case firearm prohibition and confiscation orders, upon a petitioner’s showing that the respondent of the order poses a danger to themselves or others. The concept has at times held superficial appeal even to those who might normally support Second Amendment rights. |

Massachusetts is already known for adopting some of the country’s strictest gun-control laws, but Beacon Hill lawmakers are debating whether to set even tougher restrictions on firearms and ammunition. A Democratic-led proposal, which will get its first airing on Tuesday before the House Ways and Means Committee, would ban untraceable “ghost” guns, require tracking and monitoring systems for handguns, and set a ban on carrying firearms in many public spaces, among other provisions. |

A woman who confronted a loud neighbor ended up defending her home in Jackson, Mich., when that same neighbor attempted to break into her house. At 7 a.m. on Aug. 28, the 26-year-old woman heard loud yelling from an adjoining townhome. The young woman knocked on the wall separating the two townhomes, asking her neighbors to keep the volume down. The 19-year-old man in the neighboring residence, after having been told to stay quiet, grabbed a knife, exited his house, broke a window in the woman's residence and attempted to get inside the house. |

The White House eked out approval for a bipartisan bill that protects federal funding for hunter safety and archery programs in schools. Without fanfare, a bill-signing ceremony, or even a post on social media, President Biden signed the Protecting Hunting Heritage and Education Act into law on Friday. While two other bills were signed alongside the measure, and a brief White House statement thanked and recognized the lawmakers behind them, the backers of the pro-hunting bill received no such kind words.

Taurus’ line of 856 revolvers easily fall into the budget-friendly category for self-defense handguns. For revolver fans looking for just the basics, the 856CH is an extra-concealable version with a snag-free concealed hammer. While it’s certainly not meant for regular plinking or any serious competition shooting, the 856 is a package that won’t make you paranoid about wear and tear from daily carry. I’m always a fan of simple and practical firearms – especially if they fit a low-budget need – so I grabbed an 856CH for some testing.
