So Prelogar's assurance about persons caught up in the maze of ATF's regulations not being prosecuted rings hollow. One more exchange with Justice Kavanaugh bears attention. He referred to "a lot of classification letters that were out there, this was to collect everything and put everyone, as you say, on notice." What was perhaps unknown is that, when it adopted the Final Rule, ATF repudiated the validity of all of its prior classifications, wiping out a half century's worth of interpretations on which the industry and the public relied. |

Two Democrat-led states made moves this week to set up tax-payer funded tip lines for individuals to anonymously report perceived firearms violations.
The lines, in Hawaii and Michigan, are ostensibly aimed at lawbreakers but Second Amendment groups worry they could easily be abused.
In Hawaii on Thursday, Gov. Josh Green (D) announced the state Department of Law Enforcement has established a confidential "Gun Tip Line for people to make anonymous reports of illegal gun ownership and gun crimes." Tipsters seeking to "drop a dime" can do so either via a call or text to a phone number or via the DLE's website. |

A Bellingham gun dealer has filed a federal lawsuit against the state’s sweeping new gun law, the second one challenging the constitutionality of the legislation.
Gino Recchia, owner of Mass Armament, filed the suit last Friday in U.S. District Court in Boston.
The 10-page complaint says sections of the new law signed by Gov. Maura Healey in July, which updated the definition of assault-style firearms, violates Second Amendment protections.
The suit says certain assault-style weapons are allowed under federal law because Congress allowed a ban on the firearms to lapse in 2004. |

A federal district court struck down part of a law Thursday that made it illegal to carry a firearm on private property without a clear form of consent from the owner.
The U.S. District Court for the Western District of New York reached its decision in Christian v. James by finding that New York penal code § 265.01-d’s restriction on “private property open to the public” unconstitutional and enjoining the state from enforcing it.
The law made possessing a firearm on private property a felony “unless the relevant property holders actually permit such possession with a sign or express consent,” according to the decision. In 2022, New York passed the Concealed Carry Improvement Act (CCIA), including § 265.01-d. |

Fresh off a court win scuttling California’s law restricting firearms purchases to one every 30 days, a gun-rights group has now set its sights on another state that limits gun purchases to one a month.
The Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) has filed another lawsuit in federal court—Struck v. Platkin—this time targeting New Jersey’s version of the gun-rationing law.
In the California case, Nguyen v. Bonta, the District Court for the Southern District of California ruled such a restriction was unconstitutional. That ruling stated: “Defendants have not met their burden of producing a ‘well-established and representative historical analogue’ to the OGM law.” |

At the Gun Rights Policy Conference in San Diego in 2024, this correspondent spoke to lawyers about challenges to the Gun Free School Zone (GFSZ) Act. Michel & Associates have maintained an exceptional presence in Second Amendment lawsuits aimed at restoring the Second Amendment.

As a supporter of America’s military veterans, NSSF is sharing the “Correcting Mistaken Beliefs about the VA Confiscating Veterans’ Gun” because it recognizes that many veterans do not seek the VA health care they are entitled to out of fear of having their firearms taken away. That fear is unfounded, as the fact sheet explains in a clear Q&A format.

They did find the Yorkie, the man said, but it wasn’t his neighbor’s. They also saw the pit bull, who was about two houses away from where they were at the time. “As soon as we noticed it (the Yorkie) wasn’t his, we were charged by this pit bull,” the man said. The dog was “extremely aggressive,” according to the man. He was “barking, growling, biting toward our feet.” The two men, who were standing on the public sidewalk, tried to back away from the dog, he said. The animal was “relentless,” the man said, and close enough to attack them. Firing his weapon wasn’t his first response, according to the man. He said that he and his neighbor were just trying to get away.

Like many residents of Central Washington, I grew up responsibly exercising my constitutional right to own a firearm. This includes knowing proper storage protocols, safety measures, and when it is appropriate to discharge a weapon. With this knowledge in mind, I can practice my right to own a firearm safely. Unfortunately, we have seen attacks from opponents of the Second Amendment who try to legislate gun ownership out of existence. Although there is no federal law that prohibits law-abiding citizens from owning firearms, state laws have grown increasingly restrictive. In fact, Washington state ranks as one of the most restrictive states for gun owners.

While there are gunmakers operating in each of the 50 states, Texas stands out as a hub for small-arms manufacturing. A reported 1,711,726 firearms were manufactured in Texas in 2022, the second most among the 50 states, and equal to about 12.8% of all domestic firearm production that year.
Miscellaneous firearms, an ATF category that includes any other unclassified firearm or firearm component, including frames and receivers, accounted for 62.2% of Texas’s total output in 2022. Shotguns accounted for the second largest share of firearm production in Texas at about 15.6%. Meanwhile, approximately 11.1% of firearms manufactured in the state were rifles, 11.0% were pistols, and fewer than 1% were revolvers.

An Onslow County woman tells WITN she shot and killed a man in self-defense who showed up unannounced at her house and who had a domestic violence order of protection against him.
Colton Bush, a 28-year-old, was found early Monday morning by authorities with gunshot wounds inside the house located at 222 Bear Creek Rd in Hubert.
Authorities say Bush was not a resident of the home at the time. The woman who lives at the house told WITN that Bush came into the house Monday, and said she acted in self-defense. She said she fired toward him 5 times total. Bush was sent to the Naval Hospital at Camp Lejeune where he was pronounced dead. |

Officers located a 23-year-old man from Manhattan who had been shot in the parking lot of the Douglass Activity Complex. The victim was transported by EMS to Ascension Via Christi Hospital, where he was air-lifted to Stormont Vail Hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
Preliminary information indicates the shooter, a 26-year-old man, acted in self-defense. There is believed to be little to no relationship between the individuals involved, and this appears to be an isolated incident with no threat to public safety. |

Her answer, though, opens up more questions that are frankly problematic for Vice President Harris and demonstrate again her hypocrisy of targeting law-abiding firearm ownership while ignoring violent criminals.
The vice president should answer a few more questions. Keep in mind, the vice president is a California resident, a state with arguably the strictest gun control laws in the country.

Just as owning a car comes with legal responsibilities, so too does owning a gun, advocates said Thursday as they called on state legislators to increase those responsibilities when the General Assembly returns to Springfield next month.
Specifically, they want Illinois to shorten the period of time in which a gun must be reported as lost or stolen from 72 hours to 48 hours. The group also wants lawmakers to mandate that dealers check a gun’s serial number in a state database before it can be bought or sold. Gun rights groups oppose the changes. |
