"When Jude Cuddy, whom I referenced in a couple of earlier posts, gets on a roll, he gets on a roll! A close friend, he is a family man who generally keeps to himself, indulges in his long-time passion for competitive shooting, and is a true contributor to society. But when Jude finds time to write, his passion for our independence is matched by few. He shared the following with me today and I want to share it with you."

"'Here are my thoughts from behind the berm:'"

"'Education, Citizenship and Responsibility'"

"'It is always said that when you are discussing the star athlete who wants to break into the professional ranks that this individual would do well to remain in school - as it will "serve you the rest of your life." Athletic skill is fleeting, and you are only one play away from ending your career."

"'This is the education we all owe ourselves regardless of our chosen endeavor. The skills that 'cannot be taken away.' ...'" ...

"Should your doctor ask your child if you own a gun?"

"Guidelines issued by the American Academy of Pediatric say 'yes.'" ...

"Take a recent example from Massachusetts that was discussed in the Boston Herald:"

"'Debbie is a mom from Uxbridge who was in the examination room when the pediatrician asked her 5-year-old, 'Does Daddy own a gun?'"

"'When the little girl said yes, the doctor began grilling her and her mom about the number and type of guns, how they are stored, etc.'"

"'If the incident had ended there, it would have merely been annoying.'"

"'But when a friend in law enforcement let Debbie know that her doctor had filed a report with the police about her family’s (entirely legal) gun ownership, she got mad.'" ...

"Please contact your Senators, repeatedly if you have to, and oppose Michael Sullivan’s appointment to Director of the BATFE (please read redpills posts and material from other authors if you need to know why.) Then as Ryan suggests, contact the U.S. Department of Justice OIG and Congressional Delegates as noted above."

"If you cannot find the time or the where-with-all to do that little, then please go back and re-read the sacrifices of those that came before us. Those who protected our Constitution and your Second Amendment rights! Then look into the trusting eyes of your children."

"The Browning Hi-Power is a semi-automatic, single-action, 9 mm pistol. It is based on ideas conceived and patented in 1922 by American firearms inventor John Browning, and later patented by Fabrique Nationale d'Armes de Guerre (FN) of Herstal, Belgium. Browning died in 1926, before he had finished developing a production version. The design was fully developed and realized by Belgian arms designer Dieudonne Saive, working at FN."

"The Hi-Power pistol was named for its 13-round magazine capacity, which was almost twice that of contemporary designs such as the Luger or Mauser 1910. The Hi-Power had the first functional double-column magazine of 9 mm Parabellum rounds ..." ...

"Last year, 10,177 people in the United States were killed by firearms, mostly in cities and urban areas."

"The burden of gun violence has largely fallen to the big-city mayors, some of whom are taking steps to keep illegal firearms from entering their borders. Mayor Michael Bloomberg of New York City and Mayor Jerramiah Healy of Jersey City are among those who have moved most aggressively to combat gun trafficking even though their cities are in states with strict illegal gun laws."

"It's difficult to obtain a permit to own a gun and even harder to legally carry a gun in New York and New Jersey, but that hasn't stopped the sale and use of illegal weapons. That's because guns laws are regulated by the individual states ..." ...

"... Kneer was the only person around when Dennis Shaw, 66, of Lynnwood, and his wife pulled into the rest area for a bathroom break."

"In the restroom, Kneer asked Shaw for a ride, but Shaw refused. Kneer followed him, yelling at him and demanding a ride, police said."

"Kneer's demeanor and aggression began to scare the motorist, Harum said, adding that Kneer had a reputation for aggression and, at 6-foot-2, could be intimidating."

"Only one other federal appeals court, the 5th Circuit in New Orleans, has interpreted the Second Amendment to protect an individual right to gun ownership. But even so, the 5th Circuit upheld the gun regulation being challenged."

"Nine other circuit courts have ruled that the Constitution protects a collective right to bear arms, not an individual one."

"'Whatever right the Second Amendment guarantees,' wrote the District’s chief law enforcer, 'it does not require the District to stand by while its citizens die.'"

"The 14-year-old, who authorities said had felt bullied, was taken into custody after police raided his home in the Philadelphia suburbs on Wednesday evening. "Katz, an Oregon high school teacher, says she wants to have her pistol at school to defend herself from her disgruntled ex-husband or to prevent a school shooting. This seems like a bit of a stretch - arming teachers can not be the best way to solve these problems."

Voting for a third party in 2008 could cost conservatives the Supreme Court, and with it the Second Amendment."

FULL TEXT BELOW:

This is in response to the Sept. 30 editorial "Tracking guns":

You state, with regard to the Tiahrt Amendment, that "there's no good reason to restrict gun tracking data from municipal officials." This is patently false.

There are very good reasons to restrict this information. Disreputable municipal officials and their lawyerly associates have used this information to bring predatory lawsuits against the manufacturers of these legal products, with the aim of putting them out of business through the excessive costs of such litigation. Congress put an end to these predatory suits by cutting off access to the information used to bring such lawsuits.

As long as such predators exist, we will continue to need Tiahrt.
