I met a few people who call themselves “Pro-Gun Democrats”. I’m not sure what that means. Pro-gun Democrats might like guns. They might shoot guns, yet I don’t see how they can be for gun owners and ownership when their party is for gun control and confiscation.

“Common sense gun reform” is a cry that ricochets throughout the U.S. whenever a mass shooting occurs. But the pattern following gun violence is all-too predictable: Politicians scurry up to podiums to lift prayers and fast promises, then bide their time until public fervor fades.
Well, Washington’s fervor has not faded. That’s why the Alliance for Gun Responsibility collected more than 300,000 signatures to certify Initiative 1639, a sweeping gun-safety measure that could bypass years of federal and state legislative gridlock. |

Yellowhammer Tactical recently broke ground on a new business site that will offer the only pistol range in Jasper.
Drivers along Highway 78 in the city may have noticed groundwork across the highway from the new Tractor Supply, and, as early as next spring, Yellowhammer Tactical will have their new home on the three-acre site. The business opened in June of last year at 4011 Highway 195 to sell a variety of guns and tactical gear to the general public.
Co-owners Chad Tuggle and Mort Kelley say expanding their business to include a pistol range was part of their original business plan. |

Today, we’ll explore a two-part question submitted by Carl Axness: Which states have the highest rate of gun violence per capita, and how do they rate in terms of gun control with the rest of the country?
The answer to the first part of this question is straightforward. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention tracks gun deaths (homicides, suicides, and accidental shootings) in all 50 states. |

September, 2018 had 1,956,681 NICS checks. September, 2017 had 1,967,104 NICS checks, and September, 2016, the all time record, had 1,992,219 NICS checks. There is less than a two percent difference in the total NICS checks numbers for the last three Septembers.
Retailers are reporting that sales of firearms have fallen. How are the high NICS numbers and lower firearm sales reconciled?
The answer can be found by digging deeply into the FBI reports of NICS numbers by state and type.
While total NICS numbers remain high, the number of NICS numbers used for gun permits and for permit re-checks has become a larger percentage of the total. |

Some patients refuse to answer. Many doctors don’t ask. As the number of Americans with dementia rises, health professionals are grappling with when and how to pose the question: “Do you have guns at home?”
While gun violence data is scarce, a Kaiser Health News investigation with PBS NewsHour published in June uncovered over 100 cases across the U.S. since 2012 in which people with dementia used guns to kill themselves or others. The shooters often acted during bouts of confusion, paranoia, delusion or aggression — common symptoms of dementia. Tragically they shot spouses, children and caregivers. |

When it comes to self-defense a firearm will always be the optimal choice and absolute equalizer. There are certain instances however where a person might not be able to carry. Whether you reside somewhere that has restrictive gun laws or have another reason you will be without your firearm, you should never have to feel defenseless. For most of us, we can feel a little lost when it comes to defending ourselves in situations where we are without our gun. Not everyone is trained in advanced martial arts or possesses die-hard self-defense tactics. Even those who have had some self-defense training might not remember “what move does what” in a moment of shock or panic. |

South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson on Tuesday joined with 16 other states in a court brief supporting Second Amendment rights in response to New York City’s “premises permit” restrictions applicable to handguns kept for self-defense. The coalition asks the United States Supreme Court to consider the permitting scheme’s burden on Second Amendment rights, the full extent of those rights, and the applicability of those rights to self-defense outside the home. |

Clark sided with the plaintiffs in ruling that officials cannot prohibit visitors from carrying guns in camping areas in parks and lodges on forest land. He noted that the Supreme Court specifically held that a person has a constitutional right to have a firearm while camping overnight in a state park.
"The effect of including camp sites within sensitive areas forces state park and forest visitors to give up their right to self-defense in order to camp overnight in those areas," Clark wrote. |
