" 'The gun lobby has made it clear to the majority in the House that there will be no new federal gun laws,' said Rep. Robert E. Andrews, D-N.J., sponsor of one proposal to create a national ballistic fingerprinting system. Another hurdle, he said, is that his measure can best advance if attached to a larger crime bill, 'and there's been no such bill moving in the last few years.' " ...

"Vidor man's fight to legally possess guns is one of two Texas cases that will come before U.S. Supreme Court this week"

"Six months later, Bean returned to the United States in a prisoner exchange and eventually was released."

"Even though his crime isn't a crime in the United States, he came home a felon, and therefore could no longer own or sell firearms. Bean went to court to get his gun rights back, but now the federal government wants to take them away again." ...

"The Bush administration's lawyer, Solicitor General Theodore Olson, is expected to argue that only the ATF has the power to restore Bean's gun rights, and since the ATF's funds were cut, Bean is out of luck. The government contends that Congress deliberately cut the ATF program to prevent hardened criminals from regaining access to guns. The courts have no say in the matter, Olson will argue."

The idea that the State can take your earnings before they ever reach your hand; and, redistribute a portion of your wealth to others under the pretense that you are giving your fair share is called socialism. "In a perfectly legal arrangement that raises questions about the way federal firearms licenses are granted, the reputed head of the Chicago mob is listed as the landlord of an Elmwood Park gun shop whose owners have been charged with making illegal sales, the Sun-Times has learned."

"John 'No Nose' DiFronzo was named as the owner of the property where Illinois Gun Works Ltd. operates at 7229 W. Grand, according to the gun shop's application for a federal firearms permit."

"The federal Gun Control Act only requires a background check for those applying for a license. But the law does not direct the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms to check the background of the property owner, said Tom Ahern, spokesman for the ATF's Chicago office."

"That a store leasing space from a top mobster was able to get a firearms license demonstrates the weakness of the law, officials said." ...

You need to beware of white vans that whip straight past that 'stop' sign at the very moment you have decided to run into the road chasing a football. That's a statistically significant danger. "There is considerable irony that the sniper appears to be operating out of Maryland, a state with some of the strictest gun laws in the nation. It is proof, once again, that denying people their Second Amendment right to self-defense -- gun ownership -- provides no defense against someone determined to use one to kill people. "Candidates for legislative offices in the Fox Valley were asked to weigh in on the tricky issue of gun control."

"Responses are as follows:" ...

Candidates who talked are from the following districts/races:
43rd House District
22nd Senate District
55th House District
28nd [sic] Senate District
One quote among many stands out as intriguing:
West Chicago Democrat John Ryvold said existing laws should be enforced. "We've got all the restrictions we need," he said. He said he does not support the idea of letting people carry handguns. "If one person has one, then someone else gets one, how do we know that person won't snap," Ryvold said.
Consider the following questions, which are based on this guy's theory of placing a Prior Restraint on Basic Rights:
1) How do we know these women -- equipped to be prostitutes -- will not snap and turn to lives of fornication for hire? Prevent them from freely engaging with society.

2) How do we know these Christians will not use these bibles to try to brainwash their children into thinking there's a higher power outside of government's jurisdiction? Prevent them from freely engaging with society.

3) How do we know these activists will not use computers and the internet to distribute subversive messages or plot against people they perceive as enemies? Prevent them from freely engaging with society.
Etc.

In other words, he's a fascist who believes government is ordained to place prior restraints on basic human rights and that others should duly submit to such illegitimate "authority".
