"A new Rasmussen poll has found only 39 percent of Americans believe the country needs stricter gun laws, according to the Citizen’s Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA)."

"The survey comes just days after the Supreme Court announced it will hear a case on whether the right to keep and bear arms secured by the Second Amendment protects Americans."

"McDonald v. City of Chicago, brought by four Chicago residents, the Second Amendment Foundation and the Illinois State Rifle Association, seeks to strike down a decades-old Chicago law that bans handguns and requires the annual taxation of firearms." ...

"In the same way that Jefferson and Company patiently suffered up until that shot was fired that was heard around the world, we who love freedom today are likewise patiently suffering 'a long train of abuses and usurpations.' In fact, I would even dare say that these States United have become a boiling caldron of justifiable frustration and even anger.

"It has become increasingly politically incorrect to be a firearms owner. This is because trends tend to be set by the fashionable and the media-connected in metropolitan environments. Gun ownership per capita is well under 50% in urban areas of this country. Nationwide, it is estimated that one half of all homes contain at least one firearm. As the demographics move into rural areas, gun ownership well exceeds that 50% margin, and on the frontiers and in the true backwoods home, gun ownership will generally be found to reach the 90th percentile of the population."

"When your beliefs and values are challenged, you want ready answers. The following have worked for me when debating the civil rights of gun owners in this country." ...

"I typically don't solicit 'guest editorials,' but I'm always happy to do what I can to encourage interest in the right to keep and bear arms by the next generation--and the chance to see this kind of thought introduced in a college journalism class is too good to pass up. These students will, after all, be tomorrow's 'Authorized Journalists.'"

"October 13, 2009 saw remarks made by Nha Huyng for the Collegian Online, a paper at the University of Tulsa. Nha Huyng titled the piece, Concealed carry thwarts educational goals."

"Actually, concealed carry of handguns on campus enhances educational goals, not only in protecting students, but in the concept of Independence, the kind you have as an adult. Nha Huyng obviously endorses dependency on others, which is counter to learning anything, or becoming an adult."

"Let's take a look at what Nha Huyng has learned so far: 'Chances are, if students are allowed to carry concealed firearms, they will not take the time and effort to train themselves and would cause damage to themselves and others.'" ...

"I realize, of course, that 'wussification' is not a word, although I dare say it should be. Today's discussion is about 'zero tolerance' policies in schools, whereby possession of a 'weapon'--the definition of which is both insane, and insanely arbitrary--is not only grounds for severe disciplinary action (up to and including expulsion), but is mandatory, with school officials barred from making exceptions, even when common sense demands them." ...

"Somewhere the spirits of this nation’s pioneers, and most assuredly a shop teacher named Paul Barden are probably spinning and retching and wondering how the lunatics got put in charge of the asylum."

"Barden was the laid back shop teacher, who, on at least one occasion I remember with a smile, was asked to cut something, reached into his pocket for a knife, found he didn’t have one and without blinking an eye, looked at me and asked to borrow mine. He knew I had it."

"Barden was quite a guy and I never figured that out until much later in life ... Instead of hauling me down to the principal’s office, he cut the cord, carefully folded the blade back into my knife and handed it back. End of story." ...

"With keen interest I read the letter from Pat Helvey about being uncomfortable because one of the participants at the recent TEA Party openly wore a side arm. Pat, first I'd like to sincerely thank you for attending the rally ... I want to assure you that the person you referred to is not a 'crazy' as you feared. He is an extremely well-educated, enthusiastic freedom fighter and he knows full well his legal rights and responsibilities. I understand that there are many people that are unaware of safety statistics and almost zero criminal activity committed by those who legally carry firearms. To a great extent, that ignorance exists because it has become uncommon to see a person openly carrying a firearm. ..." ...

"The study estimated that people with a gun were 4.5 times more likely to be shot in an assault than those not possessing a gun." ...
"Conspicuously missing from the press release and the news story were two critical limitations that were admitted in the original study. These qualifiers mean that the press release headline, as well as all the other statements and implications of causation, were quite mistaken. Perhaps defensive possession and carrying of guns helps protect the possessor and carrier, and perhaps it doesn’t. But the study sheds virtually no light on the subject." ...

"Police forces across Canada, including the RCMP, OPP, are immediately changing their Taser use policy after the manufacturer issued a directive that officers should not aim the weapon at a suspect's chest."

"Taser International said in a bulletin that it's no longer advisable to aim the conducted energy weapon, which sends out a jolt of electricity, at a target's chest area to avoid impact to the heart."

"'[W]e have lowered the recommended point of aim from centre of mass to lower centre of mass for front shots,' the company said in a new training bulletin." ...

"Many people will draw quick political lessons and conclusions from the death of Meleanie Hain, who was shot by her husband last week in a murder-suicide in her home."

"The Lebanon woman gained notoriety last year by toting a loaded handgun to a children's soccer game. Her subsequent permit-revocation hearing drew national attention from both gun and anti-gun advocates."

"But this isn't the time to focus on proving a point for or against the legal right to openly carry a weapon. It is a time to mourn another victim of domestic violence."

"Regardless of the controversy surrounding Hain and her passionate views on the Second Amendment, her death, first and foremost, is the result of domestic violence." ...

"'Guns don't kill people, people kill people.'"

"Problem is, people with guns ready at hand sometimes use guns as a way to resolve problems. Witness last week's domestic tragedy involving the gun-toting soccer mom from Lebanon whose husband shot her to death, then turned his gun on himself. Two parents dead, three young children, 2, 6 and 10, orphaned."

"Maybe a gunless 33-year-old Scott Hain would have found another way to kill his 31-year-old wife, Meleanie. ..." ...

"It didn't take long for anti-Second Amendment fascists to try to capitalize on the Oct. 7 murder of Meleanie Hain. Just as they tried to benefit from the murders of the Chicago boys walking home from school -- how that becomes a call for gun control in a city that bans guns is a mystery -- they wasted little time in blaming responsible gun owners for Hain's death."

"'The Oct. 7 murder-suicide involving Pennsylvania mother of three Meleanie Hain ... is a macabre lesson in easy irony. ...'" ...

"There have been plenty of charges and accusations made publically. Open carry, of course, does tug at the emotions of people on both sides of gun issues. On the surface, it does seem a bit odd to have people running around town carrying weapons in holsters."

"Perhaps underscoring the old adage that 'to a man with a hammer, everything looks like a nail,' Lieutenant General Rick Lynch, who holds a masters degree in robotics, is pretty sure all his problems in Iraq could be solved with a massive army of battle droids."

"Lt. Gen. Lynch is now claiming that 80 percent of the soldiers who died under his command could have been saved if only he had enough killbots." ...

"Lynch is also hoping to deploy heavily armed robots to places where he suspects IEDs might be planted to 'kill those bastards before they plant the IEDs.' It has to be noted, however, that US forces killed several farmers in Afghanistan this summer because they couldn’t tell the difference between IEDs and cucumbers, and question if the robots are any more observant."
