"Actually, I made my intentions -- made my views clear. I did think we ought to extend the assault weapons ban, and was told the fact that the bill was never going to move, because Republicans and Democrats were against the assault weapon ban, people of both parties."
"I believe law-abiding citizens ought to be able to own a gun. I believe in background checks at gun shows or anywhere to make sure that guns don't get in the hands of people that shouldn't have them."
"But the best way to protect our citizens from guns is to prosecute those who commit crimes with guns." ...
"And the prosecutions are up by about 68 percent -- I believe -- is the number." ... -------
KABA Note: That depends on how you define "gun crimes". If you are talking people who have harmed no one, nor threatened harm, but are in violation of some unconstitutional ex-post facto laws, then yes, prosecutions are up. If you are talking about locking up violent, serial predators and keeping them locked up? Not so much. |

... "The state comes along and bans the carry of guns – for the citizenry's "protection." Now each must choose in which manner he will risk failing to live up to his responsibilities: A husband and father may choose to carry, risking depriving his wife and children of his love and support if caught and convicted. He may, instead, choose to not carry, in order to insure he will not fail in his responsibilities to his loved ones due to imprisonment. But if he is assaulted, and fails to protect himself or his loved ones because he chose to not carry, then he has also failed, and must forever live with the thought he knew what he should have done and failed to do it." ... |

"Assault weapons are primarily made to kill many human beings as quickly as possible. [KABA asks, if this is true, why do cops carry them?] These types of weapons have a military purpose, so why is it so important to the National Rifle Association that assault weapons be available to the public?"
"Many people in our country harbor strong anti-government sentiments. These types of people, as exemplified by NRA executive Wayne LaPierre, form the heart and soul of the NRA leadership.
