The fantasy of gun-control is easy. The sales pitch is a politician’s dream.
“No one will get shot ever again if we make guns illegal.”
That promise sounds great if you don’t know very much. Who wouldn’t want to have world peace and a pet unicorn when all you have to do is mail in two box tops and vote in November.
Sounds awesome, doesn’t it. What do you need to know to detect the lies inside the gun-control sales pitch? |

As a little girl, Dawn Adlen-Pratt of Clinton Township used to wonder about the trips her father and older brothers took up north, every fall.
Where did they go?
What did they do that was so much fun?
Finally, she decided enough is enough, and when her brothers called home to talk to her mother as they always did, she listened in.
"All I heard was, 'Mom, we're having such a great time hunting with dad,'" said Adlen-Pratt. "I was probably about 12, and when my dad got home I told him I wanted to go, too."
She's been hunting ever since.

In 1989, Larry Hatfield fudged his employment records to get some extra money from the Railroad Retirement Board. He was caught and pled guilty to the federal crime of making a false statement, and was sentenced to a fine and (at the government’s recommendation) no prison time. Since then, Hatfield has lived his life without incident, incurring nary as much as a parking ticket. He doesn’t fight, do drugs, or cause problems. Hatfield has lived as a completely law-abiding citizen for decades.

Ammunition control is the new front in gun control. Well, OK, not new exactly, as legislators and activists opposed to American freedom in states such as California, Illinois and Massachusetts have long tried with some unfortunate success to tax, ban and strictly regulate the sale of ammunition. But new in that this has become a very active line of attack on your right to bear arms.

The fight for gun rights on campus is one that “generally does not favor the Second Amendment,” Joseph Warta, regional director with the National Association for Gun Rights, acknowledges. But Texas’s “campus carry” law, which has survived both a lawsuit and an appeal by three college professors, shows that these laws can be effective in reducing gun violence, Warta argues in an op-ed for the James G. Martin Center for Academic Renewal.

Sunday night, Doctor Who debuted its second episode in its much anticipated 11th season on BBC America. The show, a British classic beloved by many in America, typically stays away from politics as it focuses on a science fictional universe. That being said, it is somewhat known for its focus on diversity, pacifism and all things “anti-violence”--which, all things considered, I am mostly willing to tolerate in a world where almost every show is littered with explicit jabs at conservatives and conservative policy. In the episode “The Ghost Monument,” however, Doctor Who really put the “fiction” in science fiction with a bizarre anti-gun rant.

One of Ted Cruz’s interns was arrested in September for the unspeakable act of leaving a shotgun shell in his vehicle. In most of the country, some shell casings in the trunk would be no big deal. In D.C., however, unless you have a permit for a firearm connected to that particular type of ammunition, you can be arrested for mere possession of it. This story comes in the midst of several pushes across the country for “ammunition control” by the anti-gun Left.

The National Rifle Association is appealing to its members for help, and stoking their fears, as Washington voters appear poised this November to enact one of America's strongest gun safety laws. "When Washington citizens cast their votes in this year's election, they'll be deciding a ballot initiative -- known as I-1639 -- that would destroy the Second Amendment as we know it in your home state," said a letter from NRA leader Chris Cox sent to members.

Researchers from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and Northeastern University came together to study the correlation between states' gun ownership and officer-involved shootings. The researchers published their findings in the Journal for Urban Health. Their grandiose takeaway: if you live in a state with "looser" gun laws – AKA you're allowed to utilize your Second Amendment rights – then you're more likely to be shot by police officers.

The Montana Attorney General's Office filed a request late Monday asking a Missoula judge to reconsider last week's decision that gave Missoula the power to impose universal background checks on firearm transfers. Attorney General Tim Fox said in the motion Monday that his team was unable to conclude their arguments before Judge Robert "Dusty" Deschamps ruled in favor of the City of Missoula's ability to require background checks between any two parties in order to keep firearms out of the hands of felons. |

New Jersey is crawling with black bears so it’s no surprise human-bear conflicts are escalating and impacting public safety. Yet on Aug. 20 New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy sidestepped common sense to stand with animal-rights extremists and sign an executive order banning the legal hunting of bears on all state-owned—and sportsman-funded—lands. As the NRA Hunters’ Leadership Forum (HLF) website, NRAHLF.org, broke the news, NRA, hunters and non-hunters alike condemned the move, which ignored hunting’s critical role as a wildlife management tool. |
