Many Soldiers join the Army as a step towards achieving their goals and dreams. That was reversed for one Soldier going through Advanced Individual Training on Fort Jackson. She qualified for the Olympics in a sport equally suited for the Army – marksmanship.

Spc. Alison Weisz, from Company B, 369th Adjutant General Battalion, will graduate Advanced Individual Training Oct. 8 and then head to the Army Marksmanship Unit in Fort Benning, Georgia. She made Team USA for the Women's 10m Air Rifle Event for the 2021 Olympic Games, and will be part of the AMU’s International Rifle Team, and compete internationally in both 10m Air Rifle and 50m Three-Position Smallbore Rifle.

A man is claiming self-defense after he shot and killed one of two teen robbery suspects who approached him with a toy gun overnight in northeast Harris County, the sheriff's office said.

The deadly shooting happened around 1:40 a.m. at the Forest Creek Apartments on Uvalde near Wallisville Road.

The man told deputies he went to the apartment complex to meet a woman he connected with on a dating website. He alleges that while he was there, two people approached him with what he thought was a real gun.

It was July 25. A peaceful protest on Congress Avenue in downtown Austin, just blocks from the state capitol. Suddenly the demonstration turned deadly.

Black Lives Matter demonstrator 28-year-old Garrett Foster was shot and killed as he is walking down the street along with other marchers.

According to police, the shooter, Daniel Perry, was driving his car, attempting to turn through the crowd of protesters when he felt threatened and fired from his vehicle.

Perry told police he shot Foster in self-defense. Perry has never been charged with a crime. Why? Because Foster came to the demonstration with a semi-automatic rifle.

Shares of gun makers have been gaining ground as Democratic candidate Joe Biden leads polls, and if he wins the presidential election in November there are expectations of a renewed surge in gun sales that could drive shares even higher.

Shares of Smith & Wesson Brands and Sturm Ruger have both rallied around 8% since late September, mirroring Biden's widening lead in the polls since his debate against President Donald Trump. The S&P 500 is up 4% in that period.

Gun Owners of America has released a list of their preferred candidates for elected offices across the state, as well as their Texas congressional ratings, grading where the state’s U.S. congressional candidates stand on defending citizens’ right to protect themselves with firearms.

With over 100,000 members across the United States, Gun Owners of America fights for gun rights in both Washington D.C. and state capitols. In Texas, for example, the organization has fought for constitutional carry and has pushed back against liberal lawmakers’ attempts to implement gun control.

Prosecutors in Wisconsin have charged a man with firing a shot near the spot where prosecutors allege Kyle Rittenhouse fatally shot one of two men killed during protests the same night in Kenosha in August.

Prosecutors wrote in documents filed late last week that Joshua Ziminski, 35, of Racine admitted he “fired off a ‘warning shot’ into the air.” He is charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct while using a dangerous weapon.

A recent parade of armed Americans flying flags from a pickup truck convoy in Portland “reminded me of the scenes of ISIS mobilizing in armored columns in Mosul,” says Javed Ali, a Michigan-based former senior director for counterterrorism at the National Security Council.

“And I thought, ‘Wow, this is the United States, and yet we’re seeing something that has the iconography of terrorism overseas.’ It’s unprecedented ... and it’s a real sort of challenge: What is the line between protected activity for U.S. citizens and what’s the line into something that looks like terrorism?”

The bill would ban law enforcement officers from seeking or executing no-knock searches and would make any evidence obtained by them inadmissible as evidence. It also requires search warrants to be served during the daytime, except "for good cause" or in cases involving the "withdrawal of blood."

A city ordinance passed over the summer now bans open carry of firearms at city buildings, facilities and parks.

It began today when Sasse tossed Barrett what presumably was intended as a softball question: “What are the five freedoms of the First Amendment?”

Barrett’s response: “Speech, religion, press, assembly…. speech, press, religion, assembly (now counting on her hands)… I don’t know. What am I missing?”

She turned to the wrong person for a lifeline. Sasse quickly said “redress or protest.”

Then came the most astonishing moment of all. A relieved Barrett said “Oh, OK.”

“Oh, OK?” Not quite. The fifth freedom is “the right to petition government for redress of grievances,” a guarantee close to the hearts of lobbyists. The right to protest is not one of the five freedoms, but it can be used in tandem with all of those rights.

Self-defense: Republicans believe every American has this right. Democrats constantly attack the Second Amendment and want to defund the police because they believe only politicians and “elites” who can afford private security should be protected.

By just about anyone’s account, 2020 has been a year unlike any other. That’s true for the Second Amendment, the firearm industry, and for millions of Americans new to gun ownership. It doesn’t look like that will change any time soon.

Questioners also wanted to hear his thoughts on Second Amendment issues. One asked whether he would support an assault weapons ban.

"Well, I think the country was safer when we did have an assault weapons ban on the books in the 1990s," Pappas said. "I think we've seen too many tragedies in this country where weapons like the AR-15 are used in a way that turns an act of violence into an act of mass slaughter."

Guns, God and Trump.

The largest open-carry festival in the country, the event was centered on the celebration of gun ownership but underpinned by politics ahead of this year’s General Election.

Experts who track extremists say the loosely organized groups can serve as a gateway to radicalization — and in extreme cases, that can lead to planned acts of domestic terrorism such as those described in the Michigan plot. Some of these groups deny being anti-government extremists. On the Three Percenters website, the organization states: “We are NOT a militia.” But a consistent thread among such groups is the idea that people should be prepared for an armed struggle against the government.

Tapping on his cellphone with a sense of purpose, Kevin Mathewson, a former wedding photographer and onetime city alderman in Kenosha, Wis., did not slow down to fix his typos as he dashed off an online appeal to his neighbors. It was time, he wrote on Facebook in late August, to “take up arms to defend out City tonight from the evil thugs.”

A billionaire-backed gun prohibition lobbying group, the Seattle-based Alliance for Gun Responsibility, has launched an all-out crusade to prevent confirmation of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the U.S. Supreme Court, declaring in a hysteria-laden email blast the nominee has “confirmed her reckless and extreme Second Amendment views.”

Only a day earlier, anti-gun billionaire Michael Bloomberg’s Everytown for Gun Safety released its own email swipe at Judge Barrett, asserting “Over 37,000 people have told their U.S. Senators to oppose the confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett… If our U.S. Senators make her a Supreme Court Justice, it'll be a dream come true for the NRA, and hundreds of gun safety laws across the country will be at risk.”

After some research, I learned that the Rock Island County Republicans are responsible for putting this deceptively worded proposition on the ballot. Republicans claim (falsely) that Illinois state gun control laws are unconstitutional and want them repealed. These Illinois state laws improve background checks for all gun purchases, raise the legal age (and waiting period) to buy assault-style weapons, and ban sales of bump stocks and high capacity magazines. County Republicans hope to trick unsuspecting voters into voting for this proposition.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Wherever standing armies are kept up, and the right of the people to keep and bear arms is, under any colour or pretext whatsoever, prohibited, liberty, if not already annihilated, is on the brink of destruction. — St. George Tucker, in his edition of 'Blackstone's Commentaries,' 1:300 (1803).
