"Crime is not fought by chasing it – crime may be caught by chasing it, but such after-the-fact agony for victims of crime cannot work as well as promised when it so profoundly vexes the rights of the very people the law was sworn to serve."
"This week, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed into law the Microstamping bill on the reason that it will help police trace criminal shooters. This is not possible, of course. It is too easy to substitute, plant or to (ahem) police up one's brass at a scene such that the trail is worse than cold, it can become tragically misleading. It could too easily become a trap for any number of innocent gun owners ... This is a gun ban." ... |

"I continue to pray for the victims and their families of the most recent Cleveland SuccessTech school shooting. Ohioans are now forced to look in our own backyard at these ghastly school tragedies that seem to be sweeping the nation. It is time for real solutions to be explored in order to protect our children."
"Many people will say that these shootings are proof that we need 'more common sense gun control laws.' What specific laws would have stopped this deranged killer? We must consider the fact that current laws prohibit anyone under 21 from acquiring a handgun, prohibit guns on school grounds, prohibit carrying guns without a license ... What magical new law will stop future school shootings ..." ... |

"Sandy Abrams, who for years was the go-to guy in Maryland for journalists who wanted to interview an opponent of gun control laws, is set to go on trial Wednesday, charged with illegally selling assault weapons to a criminal who used one of the guns to shoot at Baltimore County police, and for illegal possession of a fully automatic machine gun with a silencer." ... -------
KABA Note: According to an interview with Mr. Abrams, a number of those "violations" are nothing more than a customer putting down the wrong county of residence, or putting 'Y' or 'N' instead of 'Yes' or 'No'. As for the "missing" firearms, most of those involved serial number errors (putting down 1443 instead of 1433) rather than actualy 'missing' guns. |

"Now don't get me wrong. While I'm a member of the NRA, I'm not 'pro-gun.' I think guns are stupid, and that they can and do kill people. But I do think the Second Amendment should be interpreted to mean normal people should carry guns. So why should we protect our right to bear arms?" ...

with certain faces on television. You quickly learn who is worth listening to and who is not on a variety of subjects. One whom I came to respect for his opinions was Jonathan Turley, who is a law professor at George Washington University. Mr. Turley was a frequent guest on news programs during the Clinton Impeachment as a legal commentator, and though he was clearly a liberal, he was an honest one. So I took interest in what he had to say in a recent article for USA Today. His article followed a curious growing movement: Liberals who admit the Second Amendment might actually mean what it says, recognizing an individual right to bear arms." ... |
