In this case a 75 year old California resident used a firearm to level the playing field against a much younger, teenage assailant.
The elderly homeowner was home alone when he heard someone trying to break into the home through a window in the middle of the day.
The homeowner armed himself with a handgun before going to investigate the noise.
He found a teenage suspect climbing into his home through a bathroom window. The homeowner confronted the suspect, who attacked him. |

I like guns.
I like shooting them. I like holding their sleek, heavy, deadly weight in my hands. I like shooting at targets: cans, paper cut-outs, and—even though I’m not a hunter—the occasional animal. Though I do not own a gun—I would, if I lived in a rural area like, say…Montana—consider owning one. |

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has approved publication of a book by an agent who told Congress about the agency's failed gun smuggling sting operation "Fast and Furious." The Justice Department says ATF on Wednesday was notifying the American Civil Liberties Union, which represents special agent John Dodson, that he may publish the book but that a few parts of will be redacted for law-enforcement reasons. It is still unclear whether Dodson will be allowed to be paid for the book. Federal law generally prohibits government workers from profiting off of outside work that is specifically based on their government job. |

The U.S. Senate responded decisively today to Secretary of State John Kerry’s recent signature on the U.N. Arms Trade Treaty (ATT). In a bipartisan letter led by Senators Jerry Moran (R–KS) and Joe Manchin (D–WV), half of the Senate has officially pledged to oppose the ratification of the ATT. The signatories include every Republican Senator except Mark Kirk (R–IL) and five Democratic Senators. The letter, with its 50 signatories, ends any prospect in the foreseeable future of Senate ratification of the ATT. |

Thinking this was odd, the homeowner grabbed a handgun he keeps in his car (he keeps it in his car because he works as an unarmed security guard) and entered his home. Once inside the home, the homeowner... |

A former Houston police officer accused of raping a woman handcuffed in the back of his patrol car has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
The Houston Chronicle reports Adan Carranza pleaded guilty Tuesday to attempted sexual assault in exchange for the prison sentence.
Carranza was a Houston officer for three years before the attack in June 2012. He had responded to a traffic accident when he handcuffed one of the drivers and put her in his patrol car.
The victim told investigators he waited for others to leave before he assaulted her. He then took her to jail for reckless driving. |

In a team-building exercise, coach Mike Krzyzewski brought his Duke basketball team to his alma mater West Point to show them military life and give them a lesson in gun safety. After going through a training and safety course, the players had the opportunity to handle laser guns that resemble M4s and M240s in a combat simulator, WRAL Sports reports. They posted photos posing with the guns to the Blue Devil Network Twitter account, but they have been taken down under pressure from gun control advocates. |

The U.S. Supreme Court announced Tuesday it will hear an important case supported by Congressman Steve Stockman (R-TX 36) involving the right of Americans to keep and bear arms — Abramski v. United States. The case challenges the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’s (ATF) “straw purchase” policyAs consistent with federal law. “I am grateful that the Supreme Court will review this important case. I felt this case was so important, that I joined with Gun Owners of America and other pro-Second Amendment groups to file an amicus curiae brief urging the Court to grant review,” said Stockman. |

A school bus driver has been dismissed by a coach company for allegedly showing live ammunition to children. The driver, who has not been named, was dismissed on the grounds of gross misconduct, Berkshire firm TK Travel said. He was taking pupils to two schools in Basingstoke, Hampshire, on Friday when it is claimed he showed the ammunition to children. The allegation is being investigated by Thames Valley Police.
Submitter's note: Yes folks; this is how idiotic things get when the gun banners & fear mongers get their way. Never give an inch to the proponents of citizen disarmament, or you will end up in the same mess we have in the UK. |

After months of anguished debate over mass shootings, gun control and Second Amendment rights, the Justice Department finds itself on the defensive after a training manual surfaced that suggests federal agents could face a firing squad for leaking government secrets. The online manual for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives — complete with a photo of a turn-of-the-century firing squad — was obtained by The Washington Times from a concerned federal law enforcement official, and it immediately drew protests from watchdogs who said it showed a lack of sensitivity to gun violence and the continuing hostile environment toward whistleblowers. |

"Guns Save Lives Day," a gun rights event originally scheduled to be held on the one-year anniversary of the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School that claimed 26 lives, will now be held on December 15, the day after the anniversary of the tragedy.
According to MSNBC, Alan Gottlieb, the head of primary event sponsors Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) and Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA), stated that his decision to move the event day was a challenge to gun violence prevention groups "not to hold political events in favor of gun control" on the anniversary. |

“The sort of bits and pieces that they took from the two bills could have gone further,” said Bullard.
That’s why Bullard says he refiled a bill that aims to, in his words, “tie up any loose ends that most Floridians are concerned about.” That includes explicitly defining that an aggressor is someone engaged in an overt act of violence, such as brandishing a weapon…
“...but, it would also again switch up that aggressor language so that one could not be provoked and then upon provocation, choose to defend themselves. And, then the person who did the provoking is able to use deadly force—that little loophole is what led to the unfortunate acquittal of George Zimmerman,” he added. |

Espanola Jackson, the NRA and others sued the city and county of San Francisco in 2009, seeking to block enforcement of a 2007 ordinance that requires the setting of handguns on trigger lock. |

Not everyone who violently attacks you will be a stereotypical criminal, and the justice system still has trouble recognizing your attacker doesn’t need a weapon to kill you.
Social scientists tell us by the time we turn 21, we’ve seen thousands of people “killed” on TV and movie screens. Those images shape our society’s values, sometimes in unrealistic and unhealthy ways. TV and movies can give the general public false impressions. |
