"While dust still swirls around the outcome of last night’s blistering debate between President Barack Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney, an important question that moderator Candy Crowley seemed to steer away from as soon as it was raised was about Operation Fast and Furious."

"Romney dropped it like a grenade in the middle of a verbal joust over gun control, and it is evident that nobody saw it coming. Here’s the transcript of Romney’s remarks as published by National Public Radio:" ...

3 Reasons Not to Carry A Gun

"There are plenty of good, solid reasons to carry a gun. Just ask any of the millions of Americans who’ve applied for and received a concealed carry license during the last four years. Not that an American should have to get a government license to exercise their Constitutionally protected right to keep and bear arms. Anyway, I won’t rehash the reasons for armed self-defense here. At the risk of inflaming my detractors in the gunblogosphere to the point of self-immolation, I’d like to present three reasons not to carry a gun . . ." ...

"In last night's presidential debate, held at Hofstra University, President Obama was asked what he had done, and what he plans to do in the future, 'to limit the availability of 'assault weapons.' This time, Obama admitted that his agenda for the future includes an outright ban on so-called 'assault weapons' (which, by the way, he falsely referred to as 'automatic weapons,' just as retired Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens did, thus perpetuating the confusion that the Violence Policy Center has counted on for so long). ABC News provides a transcript of part of Obama's response:" ...

"So Obama gives his endorsement - sorta, kinda, maybe - to the call for a new 'assault weapons ban'. As part of a 'comprehensive strategy', he'd like to see 'if we can get an assault weapons ban reintroduced.' While it isn't a ringing endorsement, the media is playing it that way as are the gun prohibitionists like the Brady Campaign. So too, in all honesty, is the NRA."

"Given that, I expect the sales of ARs and AKs to accelerate along with standard capacity magazines."

"Here is a suggestion. Rather than running out and buying your third, fourth, or fifth AR-15 and your second or third AK-47/AK-74, why not take some of that money and make a campaign contribution or series of contributions to pro-gun rights candidates. ..." ...

"Last night’s rough-and-tumble debate between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney is getting a critical 'morning-after' assessment from Pacific Northwest gun owners, many of whom still hold a grudge against the Republican for signing a semi-auto ban into law in Massachusetts."

"Gun owners in America face decisions on whether or not to make their firearms accessible to their children as part of parenting."

"When should you teach your children basic firearm safety?"

"When do you teach your kids the fundamentals of how to use your guns to defend their lives in case of an emergency? That one is more difficult and every family has to weigh the maturity and level-headedness of a child with the great responsibility of access to a life-saving firearm in case of an emergency." ...

But I do know a few gun owners who literally have just one gun. Sometimes the reason is because of their significant other (AKA wife), other times it’s a monetary issue (which I understand), and then there are the people who simply think one gun is enough (I shudder at the thought.)"
