Sprawling Suburbs Force Clubs to Close -- The Taneytown Rod and Gun Club's firing range is now a soccer field, and the bullet-pocked targets have been replaced by playground equipment. In the woods where skeet used to explode with shotgun blasts, brand-new subdivisions signal a new way of life. |

"Some state legislators tried to overturn the ban in 1992 and 1993, but it is now part of the state's political firmament. Even Bret Schundler, the Republican candidate for governor and a supporter of gun rights in general, has said he would not seek to change it if elected.
Gov. Jim Florio, a Democrat, signed the ban into law on March 17, 1990. It outlaws the possession, sale, or transport of certain self-loading firearms or large-capacity ammunition clips." |

Bob Barr's battle over civil liberties has a single, simple foundation: consistency.
"These are the very same arguments I made back in '96," said Barr, who now is opposing portions of a federal anti-terrorism proposal he believes go too far. "Each incremental increase becomes more and more significant because there's so little personal freedom left," he said. "I guess I have a tendency to more jealously guard what's left." |

NRAwol was created as a clearing house for information on the NRA, only from a pro-gun point of view. If we can expose the NRA's compromises on a daily basis, and compile them all right here, the NRA may have to re-think their terrible political strategy.
Never has a web site so accurately assessed the NRA and its tactics.
This web site does not seek to denigrate the good members of the NRA, but instead to inform them about what their organization is really doing. |

"We took Harry along on our trip to the north for the Jewish New Year. We were touring some very desolate areas, going through isolated and possibly hostile Arab villages and admiring the view close to the Lebanese border. We wanted Harry near in case we ran into trouble. You know, just in case.
Harry is our pet pistol, a big ugly mutt of a gun. Traveling with him is symbolic of the way ordinary life in Israel is shaped by the need for security." --Sylvana Foa, JAFFA, ISRAEL |

Amy Doherty never wanted a gun in her home and certainly never thought she and her husband would find themselves on a firing range. But things have changed since the terrorist attacks.
"There has definitely been a lot more people coming in who are first-time buyers, who I guess as a result of these things have just figured maybe the government is not enough to protect its citizens and maybe they should do something for themselves," said Tom Christy, who runs The Firing Line in Denver. |

Despite the high costs, a recent audit said that Canada's firearms-licensing system is plagued with problems, including a backlog of applications for gun ownership and acquisition licenses.
Austin said the licensing system would, at some point, fund itself. "Eventually, you may find that happens, once we reach a steady state, but we're not there yet; we're still at implementation," he said. |

"If our government were serious about "homeland security," it would permit and encourage as much individual responsibility in the area of personal defense as possible. It would encourage responsible gun ownership and possession. It would remove legislative prohibitions against carrying personal weapons for protection.
Anyone qualified to carry a concealed weapon should be given liberty to do so virtually anywhere in America." --Chuck Baldwin |
