In 1964, Marlin Firearms and Remington Arms joined forces to develop a cartridge that filled the gap created by the lack of lever action rifles chambered in .45-70. The result was the .444 Marlin, which was chambered in the acclaimed Model 336 lever action rifle. To develop the cartridge, designers from Marlin and Remington started with a .44 Magnum case, lengthened it by nearly an inch and capped it with a jacketed soft point bullet weighing 240 grains. The bullet actually has a diameter of 0.429 inches, the same as a .44 Magnum bullet. But similarities to the .44 Magnum end there, as the performance of the .444 Marlin is on another level entirely. |

Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem’s office has declined to give an opinion as to whether Ward County has the legal authority to declare itself a Second Amendment sanctuary, or to ban mandates relating to COVID-19. In the statement, Stenehjem’s office said: “There are some situations that are unsuited for an attorney general opinion, including when the question calls for interpreting a local ordinance or charter, and when the question should be, or already has been, addressed by the political subdivision’s legal adviser.”

On October 28th, the House Government Oversight Committee will hear House Bills 5187 and 5188, to ensure that Second Amendment rights remain protected during a state of emergency. Please contact your state representative and ask them to SUPPORT HB 5187 and HB 5188.
House Bill 5187 and House Bill 5188 prohibit the state government from restricting the lawful carrying of firearms and ammunition, seizing firearms or ammunition, restricting firearm businesses and shooting ranges, and restricting hunting and fishing activities during a declared state of emergency or as an emergency response to an epidemic. Further, the legislation provides legal recourse for people who experience unjust infringements.

In a significant win for supporters of Second Amendment rights, the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania granted a preliminary injunction order to William Drummond and the Second Amendment Foundation, Inc. on October 13, 2021. Drummond had sought to open a sportsman’s club at an existing range that had operated as the Greater Pittsburgh Gun Club since the middle 1960s. It consists of 265 acres in Robinson Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania.

As the Nov, 3 date for oral arguments in the case of New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen looms, Reason magazine is highlighting one of the many amicus briefs filed in support of the case, not only because it comes from “a coalition of public defense lawyer organizations,” but because it cuts to the bone of racial and ethnic discrimination at the root of New York’s firearm licensing requirements.

The quest for meat for many West Virginia hunters starts this week. The first of several antlerless deer seasons will open Thursday in 51 of the state’s 55 counties. This is the first of the split seasons which is considered the traditional antlerless hunting season. Brett Skelly, Assistant Deer Project Leader at the West Virginia Davison of Natural Resources, said the October antlerless hunt is generally the more popular of all of them. |

For 13 years, Ruger produced an inexpensive yet elegantly simple falling-block single-shot rifle, the Ruger No. 3. Based on the company's more aristocratic No. 1 under-lever John Farquharson-style single-shot rifle, except in a simpler "American" design that evoked memories of the old Sharps series from the late 19th century, the No. 3 was introduced in 1973.

The president of the Seattle Police Officer’s Guild (SPOG) could not have been blunter about the potential loss of manpower due to city and state vaccination mandates for government employees: “Be prepared to defend yourself and your family because it’s going to be a long time before a cop can get there. That’s not alarmist talk. That’s a reality.”
SPOG President Mike Solan, who does an online YouTube program called “Hold the Line,” made the remark during an interview with Seattle’s KIRO Eyewitness News, the local CBS affiliate. It came as Seattle police officers were facing a vaccination reporting requirement or face termination, a situation that appears to be happening around the country. |

Joe Biden nominated David Chipman, an anti-gun fanatic, to head the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (although, thankfully, he withdrew); Tracy Stone-Manning, an ecoterrorist to head the Bureau of Land Management; Kristen Clarke, an openly anti-White racist and anti-Semite, to lead the Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division; and Rear Admiral Ann Phillips (ret.), someone with zero shipping experience, to serve as the next U.S. Maritime Administration administrator. That's why it shouldn't come as any surprise that his nominee for solicitor general is a fanatical anti-gun activist who participated in the simultaneously abusive and farcical Mueller investigation. |

The San Diego County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday voted in favor of banning unregistered firearms and do-it-yourself gun assembly kits in an effort to get so-called "ghost guns" off the streets. In a 3-2 vote, the county leaders' decision green lights a measure introduced by Board of Supervisors Chair Nathan Fletcher and Supervisor Terra Lawson-Remer to prohibit guns and parts without serial numbers. It also includes the creation of community-based gun reduction programs and safe firearms storage.

When it comes to rifles, most people might ask, “What’s the big deal, really, whether it’s a left-hand action or a right-hand action? Can’t a lefty learn to run the more common platform?” Well, yes, but let’s take my family as an example. Both my parents are right-handed, and my sister and I are left-handed. All of dad’s guns had right-hand actions, and I dealt with it. Now, fast-forward a generation. My wife, Donna, is also left-handed (maybe that’s what I liked about her), but her son and both my daughters are all right-handed. |

Sometimes as I conjure up Google or check Fox News or the 7-day weather forecast on my smart phone, all while sitting in the Walmart parking lot, I wonder how we ever survived with phones that were only made to talk on. Then it hits me; we survived quite well, thank you very much. |

The newly rebooted Bushmaster Firearms recently announced the launch of a new AR-style rifle chambered in .450 Bushmaster. Now based in Nevada after it was acquired by Franklin Armory from Remington last year, the folks at Bushmaster say they have designed the new .450 to significantly reduce felt recoil and the gun stands ready "to handle all hunts for deer, bear, and boar."

There’s got to be a locus for it on the human genome someplace. We simply haven’t found it yet. Some folks clearly just have the gun nerd gene. It really is tough to quantify. I have been into guns from my very earliest recollections. I’m not a violent guy and honestly don’t much care for hunting. However, the act of stroking a trigger and seeing something happen downrange will reliably get my juices flowing. This particularly curious genetic anomaly has taken me to some fascinating places. |

Seeking blanks for my newly restored Berthier carbine, I discovered there were none to be found; those blanks probably hadn’t been commercially loaded since World War II. I suspect the national Berthier blank supply was wastefully dissipated in the decades following Hollywood’s various inferior remakes of Paramount Pictures’ 1939 original masterpiece, Beau Geste. Taking the “damned die hard” approach of the French Foreign Legionnaires, I vowed I would somehow find an economical way to load my own blanks! |

President Joe Biden's administration faces crises of its own making at the southern border, at the nation’s ports, in Afghanistan, with inflation, and in public health. That’s a lot. Making them worse is the tendency (amounting to an instinct) of top officials to disappear at the first sign of trouble and blame other people. As battle is joined (literally, not just metaphorically, in Afghanistan), they do not march to the sound of the guns but scuttle away. They are utterly unsuited to the jobs they occupy.
