"If we're going to talk about the repeal of gun laws, I'm sure it's not going to happen all at once. (If only... if only...) Which gun laws ought to be repealed first? How about these?"
"1. A nationwide concealed carry which is either a repeal of concealed carry regulation or a national reciprocity for a concealed carry permit. I don't care which, it's a start. Ultimately, the second amendment is the only concealed carry law we need, if only it were respected. But gun laws did not come into being overnight, they won't be vanquished overnight. "Saying the mid-term election coming up in less than two weeks is not about gun rights demonstrates clearly that the speaker is a moron."
"Since Barack Obama took office, he has named two very anti-gun justices to the U.S Supreme Court, and Senator Patty Murray – who is now boasting that she helped write Obamacare legislation (uh, would you take that kind of credit?) – voted to confirm both of them. Murray has also supported just about every gun control measure to come along since she was elected to the Senate nearly 18 years ago. Likewise, she voted to confirm Attorney General Eric Holder, who wanted to renew the ban on modern sport-utility rifles ..." ... |

"Let's get some background."
"I grew up in a non-gun state where they all had to be registered, both handguns and long guns. We had a rifle and shotgun in the house, to be handed down to me by each of my grandfathers, but they sat in their cases because neither me nor dad had an itch to go sit in the woods ... waiting for meat to show up when a good steak was just a few minutes drive away at the grocery store. It was also a nice neighborhood where everybody checked on each other when the power went out or the water pipe broke, a couple neighbors had a housekey to take in the newspapers and mail if we were away. ..."

The only part of a car that you could kinda maybe count on to stop a bullet is the engine block. And yet IDPA and the rest of the run n' gun crowd are constantly holding competitions where you have to shoot from behind a car door. Yes, I know the difference between cover (ballistic protection) and concealment (hiding). But I reckon the combat sim crowd should run drills and comps where the shooters have to fire from behind more realistic fake cover (if you know what I mean). I'd also like to point out that most times these shooters expose their entire upper body while firing, rather than "peeking out" from cover. Or concealment. Anyway, talk to me about cover. Do you scan for it when you walk around? What do you look for? |

"After reading about the trigger problems with the Remington 700, before the CNBC brouhaha, I went out and bought a Remington 700 SPS Tactical. I was confident that the company has addressed the design defect more than two-and-a-half decades ago. No, that’s not it. I don’t buy a product because it isn’t defective. I buy it because it's what I want. I wanted a reasonably priced 308 rifle for target practice. In bad ass black. If SWAT teams trust the post-1982 Remington 700 to save the lives of innocent people, that’s good enough for me. OK, SWAT teams deploy the Remington M-24 Sniper Weapon System based on the 700. But still. Which brings me to my main point: why is Remington attacking CNBC's reporter instead of defending their gun?" ... |

"My brand new gun is jamming!" And not in a Bob Marley kinda way. Ask anyone who works at a gun range: they've heard that one before. As Wayne from American Firearms School attests, the lube used to protect a gun before it's shipped from the factory is not the same gunk you need to keep it running smoothly. So Wayne field stripped and cleaned our recently received Ruger SR40 prior to its test and review (writing it now). Thank you Wayne. |

"On the issue of gun control, it’s imperative to know why we have the second amendment, the amendment granting the right to bear arms. There is in fact a simple reason for the founders of this country decided to incorporate a right to own a weapon. The second amendment is a safeguard of sorts, what it guarantees is more than a just a weapon, but the idea that one person can defend themselves. They may not necessarily be defending themselves against another person, but also the government itself. What could the people possibly do if we find ourselves in a fascist nation where weapons are illegal? ..." ... |

"In the first few weeks of summer vacation this year, I took driver's education classes. My instructor, Morris, was knowledgeable, competent, and entertaining, but was someone who ... 'couldn’t hold his tongue'. One evening, in between telling us stories of gruesome automobile wrecks involving teenagers, Morris said that the reason that the low number of shootings in the 19th century 'Wild West' was because everyone carried guns. But later, when describing instances of road rage, Morris called us a 'violent generation' that could not be temperate. Whether he knew it or not, Morris had contradicted himself. The early 21st Century is not the late 19th Century. Times have changed, and so must our relationship with guns." ... |
