"Protectors of the Second Amendment have filed a lawsuit against Attorney General Eric Holder and the FBI over a law that denies gun rights to individuals with a misdemeanor conviction."

"The Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) is acting on behalf of a Vietnam War veteran, Wayne Schrader, who was twice denied the opportunity to own a firearm because of a misdemeanor charge stemming from an altercation that happened more than 40 years ago. Schrader was arrested in 1968 for defending himself against a member of a street gang in Maryland, according to the plaintiff's complaint." ...

"Conspiracy theories are all well and gooduntil someone puts a Twin Tower out. Then you take your eye off the ball, mistaking your friends for enemies and encouraging Mel Gibson to make movies that are only slightly more credible than Plan 9 From Outer Space. When it comes to separating fact from fevered imagination, go with Occams Razor: the simplest explanation is most likely correct. On one hand, the National Rifle Association (NRA) may be endorsing/supporting/funding not-so-anti-gun candidates to ensure that they have something to fight against. Intentionally subverting their own cause to protect it. On the other, politics makes strange bedfellows; and boy, does the NRA sleep around ..." ...

... "This is a cold, hard fact about the West that a lot of people who have moved here from elsewhere, or who grew up in the urban Puget Sound environment simply fail to grasp: There are things that can kill you out there other than falls and your own stupidity, which this column mentioned the other day here. Wild animals are called wild for a reason, and its not just bears and mountain lions that can harm you. In self-defense, whistles and even bear spray may not do the trick, and ones only option may be lethal force." ...

"Tonight, CNBC is doing a piece of the Remington 700 rifle. There are allegations that it is unsafe. If that is the case, I just wonder how Remington could have avoided serious legal judgments over the years. Anyway, the truth will eventually come out."

"Closer to home, a Knox County jailer is reported by the Knoxville News-Sentinel to have accidentally shot a friend in the hip. The story goes like this. The friend didn't like guns, the jailer attempted to clear his gun in the confines of the back seat, and fired the gun, striking the friend in the front seat." ...

It was designed by the Framers of our Constitution so that the populace would be armed in case the government decided to enter into the world of tyranny. "Paxton Quigley is on a mission: to get more guns in the hands of more women. And shes already well on her way, having trained thousands of women to wield a weapon to protect themselves. 'In Armed & Female: Taking Control,' Quigley describes the types of self-defense that work yes, packing heat but also street awareness, good fighting techniques and a safe room in the home. She is unenthusiastic about pepper spray, stun guns, tasers and standard Karate. While Quigley would prefer a world without weapons, she argues there is a need for law-abiding citizens especially women to have access to guns. Here, she describes how she came to realize the importance of arming women against rapists and other attackers." ...

"The Ruger SR40 is an extremely accurate gun. The .40-caliber pistolfs recoil is, as advertised, as soft as a nine. We fed it 400 rounds without a problem. The trigger, however, is diabolical. Itfs squidgy, gritty and unpredictable. And thatfs odd. Because the SR40 trigger I sampled down at D&L felt exactly the same as the SR9ces, a gun we lauded for its 1911-style go-pedal. Ruger assures us that the SR40s trigger uses all the same bits as the SR9c and the new, improved SR9. So Ifm sending the SR40 back, and holding off on the full review awaiting a replacement. I want to see if the trigger trouble is a one-off production problem or the nature of the beast. ..." ...

"Go on. Admit it. You want a precision rifle. For hunting. Target practice. Picking off zombies from your bedroom window. Does it really matter why? No. The only thing that matters is how much. A well-sorted precision rifle with pillar bedding, free-floated barrel, high quality bases and rings and killer optics will melt your credit card faster than a butane blowtorch. Alternatively, you can scratch that itch for Old School Cool with a Remington Model 700 VS. With a few odds and ends, you can built a precision setup that will exceed your shooting capabilities (in a good way) without breaking the bank. Yeah, lets do that." ...

"This wouldn't be so horrifying if it weren't for common sense and the long-established two-way correlation between violent behavior and alcohol consumption, dating back as far as Albert Reiss and Jeffrey Roth's Understanding and Preventing Violence published in 1994. "The Republican candidates for state and federal offices are saying an awful lot about the Second Amendment in an attempt to win hunters' votes. Gun rights in Wisconsin are a nonissue for two reasons. Second, the Wisconsin Constitution guarantees the rights to keep and bear arms ..." ...

"Oklahoma Representative Dan Boren is clearing up confusion about legislation he sponsored to study gun microstamping."

"Microstamping involves etching information onto a gun's firing pin so that it imprints that information onto each cartridge, allowing the cartridge to be traced back to the gun that fired it."

"Supporters say microstamping could help officers track down criminals. But Representative Boren and the National Rifle Association oppose microstamping. They're pushing the study to prove it's flawed technology and way too costly." ...
-------

Submitter's Note: But the manufacturer of this (proprietary) technology says it will only cost $0.50 to $8.50 per gun, depending on production volume. So let's implement the law, and pay ID Dynamics (let's be generous) $10 per gun manufatured. For that sum they will provide all of the equipment and personnel necessary to install, operate and maintain their specialized equipment, will reimburse manufacturers for production delays (so if ABC Guns goes from 500 guns per hour to 450, ID D will pay ABC their net profit for 50 guns for that hour) and any downtime incidental to installation or operation of their equipment. Oh, and ID D will also implement and maintain the necessary databases to handle the, what, 2 million semi-autos per year manufactured here. Oh, and they will also be responsible for keeping the database updated with address changes and ownership changes (after all, it does no good if the cops get a bad address for the owner, right?). And since it is officer safety we're talking about here, let's add some criminal sanctions if there are errors in the database (like putting 'N' instead of 'No', for instance, or abbreviating a state), or if their microstamps fail to operate as promised. Then I would be willing to accept a 'microstamping' bill.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.' The right of the whole people, old and young, men, women and boys, and not militia only, to keep and bear arms of every description, and not such merely as are used by the militia, shall not be infringed, curtailed, or broken in upon, in the smallest degree; and all this for the important end to be attained: the rearing up and qualifying a well-regulated militia, so vitally necessary to the security of a free State. Our opinion is that any law, State or Federal, is repugnant to the Constitution, and void, which contravenes this right. [Nunn vs. State, 1 Ga. (1 Kel.) 243, at 251 (1846)]
