"Standing behind a table laden with semi-automatic rifles and other firearms seized from the streets of Philadelphia, the law enforcement leaders told a news conference that failure to extend the ban would cause a new surge in multiple killings and subject police officers to a greater risk of armed attacks." |

"Eight St. Louis area collectors were indicted Sept. 28 for 'engaging in the gun business' without a Federal Firearms License. They are the latest victims in the 40-year battle over the fuzzy definition of who must have an FFL."
"Vaguely defined 'unlicensed dealing' carries more severe punishment than some willful violations by licensed dealers – plus the potential forfeiture of every gun in a collection, and the loss of gun ownership rights, firearms hunting rights, and often even voting rights – for life."
"In addition to the ruinous legal costs of fighting a felony offense punishable by up to five years imprisonment and $250,000 fine, the St. Louis collectors – five of them 60 to 79 years old – have had 572 firearms seized." |

"A contract of three one-year options to supply H&K USP40 Compact Law Enforcement Model semiautomatic handguns was signed after the agency, under pressure from House Small Business Chairman Donald Manzullo, R-Ill., reevaluated all the bids it had received from firearms companies, especially those with manufacturing facilities in the United States. "The route to greater academic excellence is nearly a no-brainer. There are three vital inputs to education: parents, teachers and students. You tell me: How much money does it take for teachers to assign homework, and for parents and teachers see to it that it gets done? How much money does it take to see to it that kids get a good night's sleep, come to school on time, don't fight in school, and respect authority? If these no-brainer things aren't accomplished, there's no amount of money that's going to make much of a difference." |

"Compassion apparently goes out the window with all but those persons who follow a libertarian philosophy when it comes to voting. When a person votes affirmatively for a tax that person has decided that it is OK, for the authorities, to kidnap you and financially ruin you and if you resist commit violence against you, if the majority believes as they do. The only thing that has changed is the numbers. Ten, ten thousand or ten million, it really makes no difference. The Marshall University Police Department will offer its self-defense class to members of the community beginning Wednesday, Oct. 29.
The class has been available to Marshall students for several years, and the MUPD has received numerous requests to offer a class to the public, said Sgt. Angela Howell.
Howell and officers Scott Ballou and Stanley Harper teach self-defense through the Rape Aggression Defense System. The system includes a series of blocks, kicks, punches and other maneuvers that can help women defend themselves and flee dangerous situations.
"We talk about prevention and then go into strikes, kicks and holds," Howell said. "At the end, we put (class participants) in a simulation where they’re actually attacked."
------- Note that many law enforcement officers recommend self defense with a firearm, because strikes, holds and kicks require the victim to be in close proximity to her attacker, who is many times much bigger and stronger than he is. Best to avoid having to grapple with a bruiser. A firearm can be used effectively from a distance. |

"Now, let’s expand the question even further. Suppose Mrs. Bartush had turned the gun on someone else instead of herself. Or, suppose Daniel Scruggs massacred those school bullies instead of hanging himself? Gun control advocates would surely go after Bartush for not safeguarding his guns. Distraught family members would surely go after Daniel’s school for not ensuring their children’s safety."
"Still, the underlying question remains. Just how much are we our brother’s — or our families’ or even our friends’ — keepers? If you cause a family member to consider suicide, fail to take steps to prevent a vengeful murder or even just see a problem and do nothing, are you guilty of manslaughter?" |
