It will soon have been three weeks since the Las Vegas shooting massacre, but already the news cycle has moved on. All of the other issues that have been in the headlines—male sexual predation, Donald Trump’s (un)fitness for the presidency, the respective futures of the Iran nuclear agreement and the Affordable Care Act, and on and on—are undeniably important. |

The Transportation Security Administration expects to seize a record-high number of firearms this year, and is attributing the spike to an overall increase in air travel passengers. "While it's impossible to ascertain an exact, scientific reason for the increase, there does seem to be a correlation between the increase in the number of firearms caught and the increase in passenger volume," TSA spokesman Mike England told the Washington Examiner. "2016 was a record year for passenger volume and the industry is on pace to break that record in 2017. |

With every new mass shooting in America, the resounding question of why this keeps happening gets louder but never resolved. People abroad cannot understand America’s fixation with guns, and people here in the USA attempt to explain it with a variety of Second Amendment rights interpretations. It is an individual right to bear arms; the Second Amendment is the right for militias to bear arms and is no longer applicable in today’s world; the National Rifle Association (NRA) and gun lobby are solely responsible for gun culture at we find it now, and more. |

Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom is asking that a court order against a “high capacity” magazine ban be lifted so the ban can take effect in California. A “high capacity” magazine ban was set to go into effect in California on July 1 but was blocked by U.S. District Judge Roger Benitez, who ruled that the ban could not survive the test of District of Columbia v. Heller (2008). |

The Illinois General Assembly will gather for its fall veto session on Tuesday with gun control legislation to consider again in light of national tragedy, including a provision to ban "bump stocks," the devices used by the gunman in what is now the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history. At least two bills are being considered following the shooting in Las Vegas that left 58 people dead and more than 500 wounded on Oct. 1. |

The slaying of five dozen people in Las Vegas did little to change Americans' opinions about gun laws, a poll finds. The nation is closely divided on whether restricting firearms would reduce such mass shootings or homicides, though a majority favors tighter laws as they have for several years, according to the poll from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research. |

Amber Gustafson, a mother of three, launched her campaign for the Iowa State Senate the day after the Las Vegas gun massacre. She had been planning the event for weeks, so despite the terrible news and the calls she got from friends and fellow gun-safety activists all night, she did not consider postponing. The tragedy, in fact, underscored the reason she had gotten involved in politics.

Nothing is more important than firearm safety, and for that reason we’ll first revisit the NRA Gun Safety Rules. While training, especially for novices, I recommend using an unloaded firearm on the range or other prescribed shooting area. Never practice drawing from concealment in a public space, even with an unloaded firearm. Also, always be aware of your surroundings, and never point the firearm in an unsafe manner. Keep your muzzle downrange at approved targets only, even if you’re not pulling the trigger. Before holstering, check to ensure your gun is unloaded, and keep it unloaded throughout the exercise. |

Rep. Brian Higgins isn't exactly sticking to his guns.
After accepting $5,000 in donations from the National Rifle Association between 2006 and 2012, the Democratic lawmaker from Buffalo announced on Facebook earlier this month that he now plans to donate that money to local and national organizations dedicated to fighting for what he called "common sense gun safety policies." Higgins portrayed the move as proof of an honest change of heart, as events – one mass shooting after another – convinced him that Congress should do something more about gun control. |

Inland Manufacturing is known for its line of reproduction M1 Carbines, modern-day models that feature the same look, feel and function as the original M1 Carbines that rolled off the assembly line during WWII. Now, the company is bringing the M1 Carbine platform forward into the 21st century with the introduction of the new Inland M30-P pistol. The Inland M30-P pistol is built on the same receiver and shoots the same standard .30 Carbine ammunition used by the company's WWII reproductions. However, these two features are about the only thing in common between the 1940s-style guns and the M30-P.

A former NPR CEO decided to take a year off from work to surround himself with conservatives, Trump supporters, and Evangelical christians - groups he admittedly only “knew through Jerry Falwell and the movie Foot Loose.” In turn, he found a group of people deeply engaged in caring for others, a justifiable dissatisfaction for the mainstream media, and even developed a sense of appreciation for guns. |

A concealed pistol license holder shot and killed a man who shot at him and others early Saturday in Highland Park, police said.
Police said two men were in a car in the parking lot of the Sunoco gas station at Hamilton Avenue and Webb Street. Police said another car with one person inside pulled up about 12 a.m. and began talking with the men in the first car.
Police said two men walked out of a field and began shooting at the men in the cars. A man in the first car, who is a CPL holder, shot and killed one of the shooters, police said.
Police said that if the man had not returned fire, they believe all of the people in the two cars may have been killed. |
