Alec Baldwin has a history of speaking out against gun rights activists.
Baldwin, 63, accidentally shot and killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins Thursday in what he described as a "tragic accident" on the set of his film "Rust." The shooting also sent director Joel Souza to a hospital for emergency care.
In 2018, Baldwin joined a celebrity coalition, No Rifle Association (NoRA), whose goal was to shine a light on the National Rifle Association's alleged hold on the United States government.

The judge first confirmed that a person pulled a gun on Zapien and a person with her. Zapien then grabbed her weapon out of a suitcase, O’Rane continued, and it was negligently discharged—or discharged due to user error.
“There were discrepancies between how and where the gun was fired,” the judge continued, but Zapien’s lack of criminal record combined with a witness report convinced the court that this count should be a misdemeanor.
Following this clarification, Zapien then pleaded guilty to this misdemeanor level offense. Judge O’Rane then introduced the second charge, drawing a firearm in a threatening manner, in a public place, a misdemeanor as well. Zapien pleaded guilty to this charge. |

Defense attorneys Clint Broden and Doug O'Connell asked for the hearing on behalf of their client Daniel Perry, who is charged with murder after he shot and killed protester Garrett Foster. Perry has said he shot Foster, who was also armed, in self-defense.
Since the grand jury indicted Perry on a murder charge, Fugitt has filed a sworn statement accusing the DA's office of tampering with him as a witness. Additionally, the city engaged an outside consultant to investigate alleged policy violations leveled against Assistant Chief Richard Guajardo related to the matter, and the consultant later cleared him. |

You have fired your weapon in self-defense, and someone has been shot. But whether you realize it or not, the fight isn’t over. You may have come out victorious, surviving physically, but the legal fight has just begun.
In what experts call “fight or flight” the human body goes into survival mode and clear thinking might not be possible. But having a plan in mind of what steps to take if this situation happens is one of the most important things you can do as a legal gun owner. Because the actions you take in the moments right after the shooting could be the difference between you being sent to prison or going home to your loved ones in one piece. |

While Americans know that guns take many innocent lives every year, many don’t know that firearms also save them.
On May 15, an attacker at an apartment complex in Fort Smith, Arkansas, fatally shot a woman and then fired 93 rounds at other people before a man killed him with a bolt-action rifle. Police said he “likely saved a number of lives in the process.”
On June 30, a 12-year-old Louisiana boy used a hunting rifle to stop an armed burglar who was threatening his mother’s life during a home invasion. |

The Ohio Senate has solidified gun rights, limited government power in an emergency and clarified knives are included in the right to bear arms.
Senate Bill 185, which passed 23-7, stops the state or local governments from confiscating any lawfully owned gun during a declared emergency. Sen. Tim Schaffer, R-Lancaster, said it protects Ohioans’ right to protect themselves and does not add any new gun rights. |

Representative Dusty Johnson, running to defend his seat in congress, cites his 92% approval rating from the NRA as proof of his defense of the Second Amendment while in office.
...
”Rather than just having states waste them by quickly spending them before the deadlines, giving them the opportunity to gather those funds into a trust fund that can be used in perpetuity to address mental health and substance abuse issues,” Johnson said.
State legislator Taffy Howard, running against Johnson in the Republican primary, is firing back citing Johnson’s vote for red flag laws. She calls herself an “unabashed supporter” of the second amendment. |

With only two gubernatorial elections being held throughout the nation this year, Virginia’s has come into the national spotlight. This election could also shape the future of the Second Amendment in the Old Dominion for years to come.
Should Terry McAuliffe (D) get elected to the governorship once more, an ominous future for the right to keep and bear arms lays ahead in the state of Virginia.
Already, McAuliffe has been echoing false claims made by President Joe Biden (D). He has also been backed and funded by anti-gun billionaire Michael Bloomberg. |

The 63-year-old actor has been a supporter of gun control for many years.
In 2018, he joined an initiative aiming to reduce the National Rifle Association's influence in American politics. A Guardian report published at the time said the group was taking part in demonstrations, boycotts and voter registration campaigns.
In the same year, Baldwin became embroiled in a war of words with Dana Loesch, who was then an NRA spokesperson. |

The legal conflict over abortion often divides Americans along predictable political lines. The fight over Texas' new anti-abortion law, however, has now united gun rights activists and abortion rights activists on the same side.
The Firearms Policy Coalition, a national gun rights outfit, filed a friend of the court brief at the U.S. Supreme Court yesterday in support of Whole Woman's Health, the abortion rights group that is leading the legal fight against Senate Bill 8, the sweeping Texas anti-abortion law that recently went into effect. |

But there's another “originalist” narrative evident in the very source materials the justices studied, which seems to have more support than their versions of history. Indeed, the historical record shows that the Second Amendment is rooted in racism and was written to preserve Southern state militias whose job it was to crush slave rebellions and capture runaways.
The court's acknowledgement of that narrative would indicate its willingness to confront our history in the forthright manner demanded by originalism -- whether or not one agrees that we should adhere to the founders' ideals. |

The FBI Uniform Crime Report for 2020 revealed defunding police departments and reducing the number of cops on the beat results in higher crime. The body count is proof positive that years of ever-increasing gun control is an abject failure.
Second Amendment activists aren’t kidding when they suggest it’s time to scrap all gun restrictions and try something else. Gun laws passed on the premise they would “reduce gun violence” have uniformly failed, but none of the proponents have been willing to step forward and admit they were wrong. Instead, they push for more restrictions claiming, “We just didn’t go far enough.” |

Hollywood was in a state of shock on Friday, one day after Alec Baldwin fired a gun being used as a prop on a New Mexico film set, killing a cinematographer and wounding the director. Real firearms are routinely used while cameras are rolling, and injuries of any kind are rare. The reason is that safety protocols for firearms on sets are well established and straight forward. |

After five Maryland lawmakers from three western Maryland counties announced that they want to secede from their state to join West Virginia, West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice has begun planning a special session to try to make it happen.
The lawmakers represent three counties that border West Virginia – Allegany, Garrett and Washington. Allegany and Garret are the two counties within the narrow strip of northwestern Maryland that extends between Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Part of Washington is also in that strip of land. |

OK, Senator. I’ll bite.
Define “sufficient due process protections” and how they compare with, say, being adjudicated guilty by a jury of your peers. “Sentence first—verdict afterward” not only flies in the face of everything supposedly unique American justice has promised us it stands for, but it was also used not that long ago as an absurdist example of tyranny and madness that even children understood. |

On October 16, the Newtown Police Department participated in the inaugural statewide gun buyback program.
This large-scale initiative was put in place for individuals to be able to turn over unwanted guns to be properly disposed of. In Newtown, it was an anonymous event and members of the Newtown Action Alliance were giving gift cards to those who turned in guns.
More than 100 firearms were turned in to the Newtown police for destruction. They were mostly shotguns, rifles, and handguns, but there were four that fell into the state’s definition of assault weapons. All weapons will be logged and then disposed of by either the state or local police. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
Besides the advantage of being armed, which the Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation, the existence of subordinate governments, to which the people are attached, and by which the militia officers are appointed, forms a barrier against the enterprises of ambition, more insurmountable than any which a simple government of any form can admit of. Notwithstanding the military establishments in the several kingdoms of Europe, which are carried as far as the public resources will bear, the governments are afraid to trust the people with arms. — James Madison, The Federalist Papers, No. 46 |
