A new Rasmussen survey shows more likely voters trust Republicans (49%) more than Democrats (38%) to handle crime and law enforcement issues.
By no small coincidence, this poll might be good news in a gubernatorial race in Washington state, where former King County sheriff and former seven-term Congressman Dave Reichert is running as a Republican in a state that hasn’t elected a Republican gubernatorial candidate in nearly four decades. |

Despite the “invitation” by the Illinois State Police to gun owners holding semi-automatic firearms that will become illegal to own on January 1, 2024 to register them, scarcely 4,600 of the more than 2.4 million holding FOID (firearms owner ID) cards have accepted the invitation. The bill, which Illinois Governor JG Pritzker eagerly signed into law in January, was immediately challenged by numerous parties, including gun owners, gun dealers, and pro-Second Amendment political action groups. It bans the possession of more than 170 different types of semi-automatic weapons, but provides a “legacy” loophole. |

Even as the Court prepares to hear argument next week in two cases exploring the legal ramifications of public officials’ social media activity (Lindke v. Freed and O’Connor-Ratcliff v. Garnier), it has added a third high-profile social media dispute to the merits docket. In Murthy v. Missouri, the Court put on hold—over the alarmed dissent of three Justices—a lower court injunction that sought to limit federal officials’ engagement with social media companies on questions of content moderation. |

New Yorkers would be required to undergo a criminal background check to buy 3D printers under a Democratic proposal being considered by the state Legislature. The proposal, filed in the state Assembly, calls for regulating sales of 3D printers that can be used to make firearms or their components by requiring retailers to run background checks on prospective buyers.

It’s hard to overstate John Moses Browning’s impact on the early evolution of the self-loading pistol. In the closing decade of the 19th century, he inked two momentous deals. The first one, in 1896, gave Colt the exclusive rights to sell JMB’s pistol designs in the United States and the British Isles. This was quickly followed by a deal inked with Fabrique Nationale of Herstal, Belgium, giving them the exclusive rights to Browning designs in most of Europe. Significantly, it prevented Browning designs initially bought by FN from being sold in the U.S. and United Kingdom. |

One question that is common with new shooters surrounds the difference between FMJ and TMJ ammo. Some shooters believe that FMJ and TMJ ammo is the same, however they are very different.
FMJ stands for Full Metal Jacket. FMJ bullets typically have a soft lead core covered by a swaged metal jacket covering the outside of the bullet with an exposed lead base.

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
Some of the worst abuses of government force in recent years were precipitated by technical and victimless gun-law violations. For example, the BATF claimed that the Branch Davidians possessed machine guns without paying the required federal tax and filling in the proper registration forms. So a tax case worth less than $10,000 led to a 76-man helicopter, machine gun, and grenade assault on a home in which 2/3 of the occupants were women and children. — Dave Kopel and Dr. Michael S.
