A federal gun charge has been dismissed against a Michigan man who appeared with his family as the central figure in the TLC show “Meet the Putmans.”
An indictment unsealed in April against William Putman II accused him of illegally possessing an AR-15 rifle that was converted to operate as a machine gun. A judge last week, however, signed an agreement to dismiss the charge if he agreed to “waive any and all claims for monetary or equitable relief” against the United States.
The indictment came after Putman’s son Brandon Putman was charged after authorities say he tried to get copies of a component to convert an AR-15 into an automatic weapon that could shoot multiple bullets with a single squeeze of the trigger. |

The use of a Taser can be considered "deadly force," a Michigan State Police Taser expert testified Wednesday during the trial for a former trooper charged in the death of a Detroit teen last year during a chase.
"You have to consider the crime and whether the force you’re going to use equals the need to take them into custody," said Michigan State Police First Lt. Barry Schrader during his testimony in the trial of Mark Bessner. "Once you choose to use the Taser, you have to take into totality of circumstances when to use (it), such as the crime. Use of the Taser could be considered deadly force depending on circumstances."
Submitter's note: I thought the idea of Tasers being used was because they were not "deadly force". |

UTC has added rules and guidelines, specific to this university, regarding the 41 faculty and staff allowed by law to carry a concealed weapon on campus.
In 2016, Tennessee passed a law allowing full-time faculty and staff, who have a concealed-carry permit, to carry handguns on college campuses.
The law, as stated by the Tennessee General Assembly, reads, “As enacted, permits full-time employees of state public colleges or universities who possess handgun carry permit to carry a handgun while on property owned, operated, or controlled by the employing college or university if certain requirements are met. – Amends TCA Title 39 and Title 49.” |

A hard-edged radio advertisement blasting Initiative 1639—the 30-page gun control measure now facing Washington State voters—has hit the airwaves, telling listeners that in some Seattle neighborhoods, “if you call 911…it takes 18 minutes for police to arrive.”
The advertisement is sponsored by Washingtonians and the National Rifle Association for Freedom, a political action committee to which the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms has significantly contributed. It began airing as ballots began arriving in mailboxes throughout Puget Sound, to remind voters what is at stake. |

Our new political phenomenon, Jair Bolsonaro, who is expected to win the presidential election on Sunday, is a former army captain who admires Donald Trump but seems more like Rodrigo Duterte, the Philippines’ strongman. Mr. Bolsonaro champions the unrestricted sale of firearms, proposes a presumption of self-defense if a policeman kills a “suspect” and declares that a dead son is preferable to a gay one. |

"At this time we don't have any more fatalities," an officer said. "One person inside and one person outside." Shortly after, the static broke again, "Possibly still another shooter," another officer said sternly.
They had taken a man into custody, and after reviewing the footage, determined the man was trying to protect himself and others.
"The second shooter appears to be self-defense," an officer said as he watched more surveillance footage. "Wearing a red plaid shirt." |

"And so, that’s an M-4 rifle. That’s an assault rifle," said Firearms Instructor Dave Kellett.
Kellett says if Initiative 1639 passes, many firearms he doesn’t believe should be considered assault rifles, will be.
And more changes would come when it comes to guns, which the pro-gun community isn’t too thrilled about, like raising the age from 18 to 21, in order to buy a semi-automatic rifle. |

The National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) today launched an ad campaign to inform voters in Minnesota’s 8th Congressional District that Pete Stauber will fight to protect our constitutional freedoms. The television ad, Stauber Freedom , will air on cable and broadcast stations.
“The Second Amendment right to self-defense is on the ballot this November,” said Chris W. Cox, NRA-PVF Chairman. “Pete Stauber is the only candidate in this race who will oppose the Pelosi/Bloomberg gun control agenda and defend our constitutional freedoms.” |

Is there a solution? We have to overcome the impression in the country that gun ownership is either something that bad people or old white people do. I’ve suggested in the past that the NRA keeps committing own goals or shooting themselves in the foot or whatever other phrase we’d like to use for a group that continues to miss opportunities. Colion Noir and Julie Golob, as good as they are as representatives of the community, are not enough. The public face of that and other organizations in favor of gun rights needs to be people who will appeal to a younger and more diverse population. As I’ve explained before, this is not diversity for its own sake, though that does have value, but it’s a recognition that marketing matters. |

The national news media denigrate you. Anti-freedom, social-engineering billionaires would expunge you from their utopian society. Democratic socialists determined to seize control of the U.S. Congress would, if given the chance, destroy your Second Amendment freedom.
While our National Rifle Association remains one of the most trusted and respected organizations in the country, a massive, highly orchestrated war is being waged against us, and it has become personal. |

Tester receives a D from NRA and Williams receives a big F. Does this sound like candidates who will protect our Second Amendment and support hunting in Montana?
I do know Gianforte received an A+++ from NRA and Rosendale an A. I for one cherish gun ownership and sport hunting in Montana. This is important to me in choosing to vote for. |
