Photos of two suspects, a married couple, posing nude with a child were among the items authorities seized when a longtime sheriff’s deputy and a junior high school teacher were arrested this week in Louisiana on child rape and pornography charges, according to a report.
The husband was immediately terminated from his job as a lieutenant with the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office, while the wife resigned from her teaching job at a junior high school in Walker, La., the report said.
“It’s a sad day for us, for all law enforcement officers, when you arrest one of your own,” Livingston Parish Sheriff Jason Ard said in a statement. “ … but as I have said in the past, no one is above the law.”

An attempted robber has been shot and killed inside a restaurant in Highland Park early Thursday morning.
The incident happened at the Woodward Bistro on Woodward near Davison.
The man came inside the restaurant with the intent to rob the place, according to police.
A CPL holder inside the business at the time opened fire, killing the suspect. Police say the CPL holder was the business owner.
Police say a waitress inside the restaurant was wounded during the shooting. Originally, a Highland Park city official told 7 Action News the waitress was shot in the arm by the alleged gunman. Police later corrected the statement to say she was grazed by a bullet to her torso, and that an accidental shooting on the part of the bar owner. |

When was the last time you went plinking? You know, shooting for fun in the woods, on the farm or at a range, probably with a .22 LR? It’s what got most of us started in shooting and led to a lifetime of enjoyment with firearms. I started shooting with a friend’s Remington Nylon 66 in Apache Black and chrome, a .22 LR rifle I still lust after. Not long afterward, I was introduced to wing shooting with a .410-Bore shotgun and soon had my own .22 LR rifle, a Winchester 69A bolt-action. |

The presidential election next year is going to be very important in determining the future of our rights. It will not be the only big story – there is the pending Supreme Court case involving gun regulations in New York City which will see a ruling issued in 2020. Second Amendment supporters need to plan for the aftermath of both of these – not just if the results are bad news, but also if they have successful outcomes.
Planning for bad news is important – if you fail to plan, you are essentially planning to fail, and that is one area of strategic incompetence that Second Amendment supporters should not tolerate. |

A similar bill was introduced last year, after a veto fight with former Gov. John Kasich resulted in a stripped down version that eventually passed.
Rep. Candice Keller (R-Middletown) said her bill would allow a person to use deadly force without retreating if they’re protecting themselves or others against real or perceived threats, even in public, and would protect them from having to defend themselves in court. Keller says 36 states have some form of a “stand your ground” law. |

George Borrello, the endorsed Republican, Conservative, Independence and Libertarian candidate for the State Senate’s 57th District, announced that he has been endorsed by the National Rifle Association’s Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF).
The NRA’s Political Victory Fund gave Borrello an AQ rating and an endorsement as being a pro-gun/pro-hunting candidate, who supports self-defense and is an advocate for the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. This is the highest rating a non-incumbent can receive. |

The intruder — identified as Derek Carson, 51, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office — used a Taser on the resident and bit him, but suffered some sort of injury during the scuffle and died at the scene, police said. The resident was treated for his injuries at West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park and later released.
An autopsy determined that Carson, of the 1000 block of North Lawler Avenue, died from asphyxia brought on by compression of his neck during an altercation, and his death was ruled a homicide, the medical examiner’s office stated. |
