Big game rifles have evolved continuously with the introduction of new models, new cartridges, new manufacturing methods, changing hunting conditions and methods. I’ve illustrated some of the changes with hypothetical gun racks from deer camps beginning with the 1950s, both heavy cover whitetail hunting and open country mule deer and antelope hunting, as I did plenty of both. |

The .50 Action Express cartridge is, without a doubt, one of the world’s most powerful pistol cartridges. It features a .500-inch bullet diameter (33mm) in a 1.285-inch straight-walled case that has a rebated rim. The overall length of the standard .50 AE round measures 1.610 inches, and the ammo is powered with a large pistol primer. According to the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute (SAAMI), the maximum pressure of .50 AE ammo should not exceed 36,000 pounds per square inch (psi). |

These days, a “car gun” is generally considered to be any reasonably-powered handgun that can be slid under the driver’s seat and left there perpetually, to be rattled and scratched about largely at random — and hopefully be functional if ever needed. Often an inexpensive gun (police trade-in .357s are great for such duty), the owners will usually justify their selection of pistol by describing it as one they don’t mind having stolen. But it hasn’t always been this way. Think back to cowboy movies, did you see a spare Peacemaker holstered on John Wayne’s saddle, or a rifle? |

On the eve of the 141st anniversary of the famous “Gunfight at the OK Corral” in Tombstone, Arizona Territory—a battle ignited as much by a gun control law as it was a dispute between outlaws and lawmen—voters in Iowa appear poised to adopt a state constitutional amendment protecting the right to keep and bear arms, a new poll says. |

In August, a sprawling regulation took effect that fundamentally changes what counts as a regulated “firearm” under federal law. Certain firearm parts, parts kits and even unfinished receiver blanks will now be treated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) as if they were operable guns, with all the bureaucracy and restrictions that implies. The rule is as audacious as it is indecipherable in its details. ATF is vastly expanding its own law enforcement jurisdiction, simply by unilaterally redefining the main commodity it regulates. |

A vote from the city council tonight, may temporarily prohibit firearms retailers from moving into Redwood City. This comes after two gun stores inquired about opening there. The city wants time to research the matter, meanwhile concerned residents and a frustrated gun shop are already weighing in. Located right near a school and library, Roosevelt plaza in Redwood City is known for being family-friendly, the kind of place kids stop for ice cream. |

A number of sheriffs in upstate New York are declaring that their officers will not prioritize or “aggressively enforce” the state’s recently enacted, highly restrictive gun control law. These elected sheriffs have concluded quite correctly that the state’s new law is at odds with both the Constitution of the United States and with the most recent U.S. Supreme Court decision that declared New York’s previous and long-standing gun control law – the Sullivan Act – unconstitutional. |

It may be an issue falling into the periphery since we are in the throes of an economic recession compounded by high inflation, but we’re winning on Second Amendment issues in the courtroom. It may seem like it happened years ago, but this past summer, the landmark New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen was decided, and it’s been a silver bullet to most anti-gun laws. The ruling resolved the final questions regarding gun rights in America: do you have the right to carry a firearm in public for self-defense, and are justifiable need clauses in ‘may issue’ carry states unconstitutional? |

Today, we’re looking at a new player in the AR manufacturing space with a storied past. We were lucky enough to run some of these North Star Arms in a suppressed carbine course a couple of months back, and they impressed so much that we decided to partner with them and order a pallet full for our valued readers. Let’s unwrap these guns and discover what makes the NS-15 and NS-15P so cool.
