A Las Vegas resident recently shot and killed an intruder attempting to break into their home in the morning hours of Thursday, September 26th. Police say the shooting occurred while the homeowner was on the phone with authorities reporting the man had already broken a window and was acting “extremely irrational.”

It was around 7:40 am when the 20-something-year-old resident of the Spring Valley neighborhood in Southwest Las Vegas dialed 911 to report the home was being broken into. Las Vegas Metro Police Department officers rushed to the scene but did not arrive before the dispatcher heard a shot fired.

Rescinding the law entirely would have to be done through a ballot question that would go before voters in 2026. The Second Amendment advocates are pursuing that route, and have been hoping to collect enough signatures by an Oct. 9 deadline to temporarily suspend the law until voters could weigh in directly. Opponents to the bill, organized in a group called The Civil Rights Coalition, needed 37,287 by the deadline next week to place the issue on the ballot in 2026. They would have needed 49,716 signatures to suspend the law. The coalition has already gathered more than 65,000 signatures, The Boston Globe reported.

CPW said the man told the officer he was sitting outside his car with his dog the previous night when a mountain lion approached them. The man said his husky began barking and growling as the lion approached and when it got within about 10 feet, the dog engaged it.

Then, the man grabbed a shovel and used it to strike the lion in the head, killing it.

Since the man was not touched by the lion nor sustained any injuries, this incident does not qualify as a mountain lion attack according to CPW. Lion attacks are rare in Colorado, with just 25 attacks on humans since 1990.

Ecuador: Ecuador’s Restricting Firearms Rights Endangers Honest Citizens, Empowers Criminals

The legislation, which includes stringent conditions such as a minimum age of 25, psychological evaluations, and Ministry of Health-backed certifications, may appear well-intentioned. However, this is an illusion of safety. For honest citizens who want to protect themselves and their families, these restrictions make it nearly impossible to own a firearm legally. Meanwhile, Ecuador’s streets are still flooded with illegal weapons as criminals find new ways to bypass the law. Rather than addressing the root causes of crime, this law punishes those seeking lawful means of self-defense.

When a hurricane has a city in its sights, can local leaders ban residents from carrying guns?

That's what a number of Okeechobee residents were wondering last week, after seeing a public notice that the city banned the carrying of firearms by civilians and limited gun and ammunition sales in advance of Hurricane Helene.

City leaders say the order, signed by Chief of Police Donald Hagan, was issued by mistake, citing the state law used for riots and not the one for natural disasters. It was rescinded within 12 hours.

“She … is literally interfering with the democratic process that is unfolding, a constitutional process that is unfolding. She had two months to do this before…If it was such an immediate need and a dire threat to this state, why did they wait until they knew that we were going to be successful in our campaign? This is only an effort to silence the voices of the 85,000 people that will be involved in this campaign,” Leary told the Herald Tuesday morning.

The coalition includes local NRA affiliates, gun stores and sportsmen clubs across the state. According to Leary, they have cleared the signature threshold already, however, he states that organizers are considering a legal challenge to Healey’s emergency declaration in court.

Democratic Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey will take emergency action to force a sweeping gun reform package to take effect immediately, blocking hopes of Second Amendment advocates to suspend the law until putting it to a vote, Boston 25 News reported Wednesday.

Healey signed the law on July 25, which included bans on “ghost guns,” 3-D printed guns and expansions of red flag laws, according to Boston 25 News. The law was originally set to go into effect Oct. 27, 90 days after its passing, however the emergency preamble would implement the law immediately and prohibit temporary suspension of the law that the ballot initiative would request, drawing the ire of Second Amendment advocates in the state.

The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is accusing California Governor Gavin Newsom of hypocrisy after he signed a law preventing local governments from requiring voter identification, while still mandating that gun buyers provide ID before exercising their Second Amendment rights.

Governor Newsom, known for his strong support of gun control measures throughout his political career, has backed various laws tightening firearm regulations in California.

Gun Rights Policy Conference Takes Place in San Diego Over Weekend

The 2024 Gun Rights Policy Conference (GRPC) was held in San Diego, California. The location was not a universally popular choice. California has a deserved reputation as one of the few states that have enacted extremely restrictive legislation against firearms ownership and use. The restrictions make it difficult for law-abiding people to exercise their Second Amendment rights.

California is at the epicenter of the battle to restore Second Amendment rights through the courts. Millions of California gun owners are impacted by the unconstitutional laws. Tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of activists are fighting every day to restore their rights. Many of them were in attendance at the 2024 GRPC.

Gun-Rights Groups Join To Battle Lifetime 2A Ban For Nonviolent Offenders

The fact that nonviolent criminals who have paid their debt to society can lose their Second Amendment-protected rights for the rest of their lives has long been a bone of contention for many gun-rights advocates.

A case in the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals is challenging the federal law prohibiting firearm possession by people convicted of crime punishable by more than one year of imprisonment, regardless of the nature of that crime. And two gun-rights organizations recently filed a brief with that court in the case U.S. v. Duarte, which addresses the issue.

Presidential candidate Donald Trump and the Republican party have pushed the narrative that the Democrats want to take people’s guns away, but Vice President and presidential candidate Kamala Harris rebuked this claim by stating that herself and her running mate, Tim Walz are gun owners.

Professor Patricia Logan-Green said that no party is trying to take anyone’s guns away, and those who are, aren’t in mainstream politics. “The idea that anyone is trying to repeal the Second Amendment is a scare tactic,” Logan-Green said.

Ed.: Do UB professors lie? Yes, they do.

Justices to hear challenge to regulation of unserialized ‘ghost guns’

Defending the rule, the ATF argues that it is necessary to address an “urgent public safety and law enforcement crisis” created by the “exponential” increase in ghost guns. And the agency stresses that the rule does not seek to ban ghost guns, but instead simply tries to ensure that they are regulated in the same way as other commercial gun sales.

But the gun owners and gun manufacturers challenging the rule counter that the federal government has not previously required a license to build a gun for private use. And they push back against the ATF’s efforts to portray ghost guns as a problem.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta shared the state's first report on ghost guns and how they impact crime across the state.

Ghost guns are firearms without serial numbers that can be put together from a kit. This makes them untraceable, helping criminals get around laws keeping guns from felons.

The report from the California Department of Justice tracks ghost guns from 2013 to 2021, a time when the state observed a massive increase in recovering the weapons.

One attorney said they cited the shooting “as an extreme type of harm that can result from firearms and it was an example in an attempt to connect to …”

“The court’s order,” Johnston interjected.

“No, to the safety implications,” the attorney said.

“Of the court order,” the judge said. “Did the court order kill four people?”

“No,” the attorney said.

“Did the court’s order kill anybody?” Johnston asked.

“No, your honor,” the attorney said.

“Did the court’s order lead to any people shot on mass transit in Illinois,” the judge asked.

“Not to our knowledge,” the attorney said.

Open Letter to NRA’s Community of Competitive Shooters

This is an open letter addressed to NRA’s Community of Competitive Shooters. I write this letter because it is time to clear the air and move forward together to restore NRA’s leadership in the world of conventional competitive shooting and beyond.

NRA is strongest when its competitive shooting programs are healthy and strong. Competitive shooters are all strong Second Amendment activists.
When you think about it, we have more to lose than other gun owners. If we lose the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, not only do we lose the ability to defend ourselves, our homes, and our families, but we also lose our sport – which, in many cases, is a lifelong endeavor passed down from generation to generation.

How replica guns are getting Americans killed

In 2023, more than 12 million BB and pellet guns were bought in the United States. Many have roughly the same weight, markings and finishes as real guns. But these look-alike replica guns aren't federally required to have any clear indicators that they don't shoot bullets. In most states they are available for adults to purchase without background checks or restrictions.

Despite not being classified as lethal weapons, having one has gotten people killed.

Just this year, 12 people have been shot and killed by police while in possession of a replica gun. Three of them were under the age of 18.

Currently in Ohio, it’s illegal to carry a concealed weapon at a bar while drinking alcohol.

But the Ohio Supreme Court will soon hear a case that could change that.

In 2022, according to court documents, a man entered the Lazy River Lounge in Zanesville and ordered five drinks for himself over the course of the night. Records show he got in a fight in a men’s bathroom at 2 a.m. and shot a man through the neck.

Over the past 20 years, Jake Zuckerman reports, the Republican-dominated state legislature has steadily relaxed gun laws, adding legal protections for those who shoot and kill in perceived self-defense with a “stand your ground” law; ...

Like Biden, the Harris-Walz ticket supports these same gun-control policy prescriptions, as noted on the campaign’s issues page. The pair supports bans on semi-automatic rifles commonly owned by law-abiding citizens. Beyond that, the page lists their desire to ban “high-capacity” magazines, to enact “universal” background checks” and more.

Each of these supposedly “reasonable” goals does, as America’s 1st Freedom has dissected and discussed numerous times, infringe on the constitutional right to keep and bear arms.

Fat Bear Week debuted with a violent death. It's time to give the bears guns.

Following the bear community’s traditional one day of mourning – what ursinologists call “The Day of Grrrrrrrrace” – the brackets were released Tuesday. Fat Bear Week 2024 is now underway, allowing people to vote for the bear they believe “best exemplifies fatness and success in brown bears.”

But this shocking one-incident wave of bear-on-bear violence leads me to believe a significant change to this beloved event is in order: Park officials must provide the bears with guns.
