"Wrapping up a two day trip through New Hampshire on Wednesday, retired General Wesley Clark said he favored safety locks on firearms as a general principle though he said he needed to review the situation more before he would make any specific suggestions on how, if elected president, he plans to mandate such an action."

"Clark said guns were always in his house while growing up in Arkansas , but he never touched them because his father warned they were always loaded. And even during a 35 year career in the military he said he always stored guns in an “arms room” away from his son."

"Right now the Brady Bunch is going nuts because the sun is about to set on some gun laws on the federal level. ...This law has done nothing at all for the crime rate and is one of the most ineffective laws ever passed. It needs to go away." ...

"Right now we have a recall going on in the city of Coquille to do away with five of our city councilors because of the poor handling of our water and sewer system and the rates which they raised without a vote of the people. Well, we also need to recall these people because they are the very ones who also allowed our crime rate to stay the same instead of lowering it, by passing a simple ordinance that could help." ...

"This year Remington has introduced a new line of bullets - Managed Recoil - for centerfire rifles. The bullets in this new line include a .270 Win 115 grain, a .30-06 Springfield 125 grain and a 7mm Remington Magnum 140 grain. All of them reduce recoil by 50 percent without reducing the ability of the bullet to take down game quickly and efficiently. These bullets have less than a 2 percent point-of-impact change versus standard loads, making the new bullets perfect for deer out to 200 yards and possibly further. With these new loads, Junior can take his dad's rifle out deer hunting and shoot it accurately without flinching or experience a heavy recoil."

"I tested the .30-06. I piled up sandbags to keep the rifle steady and fired a traditional round. Next, I tested one of the Managed Recoil rounds and couldn't believe the difference. Shooting the Managed Recoil round with 125 grains caused the .30-06 to have less recoil than my .243."

"I shot five more rounds of this new ammunition and enjoyed every minute of it."

FULL TEXT BELOW:

I would like to share my opinion on DeWayne Wickham’s commentary (“NRA list is one name short,” Oct. 17). It’s OK if he wants to declare that he is my enemy.

However, a couple of points need to be explained. The statistic of “one child killed every two hours” includes a variety of criminals up to age 21 killed by police and during crimes.

While it’s true there are no license plates on guns, they are highly regulated. Every controllable sale is limited by the age and background of the purchaser. Every sale has to be approved by the FBI.

That’s enough! Prosecute the criminals who are causing the problems.

A member of the Maritime Self-Defense Force was arrested Wednesday for exposing his genitals to two junior high school girls at a karaoke club last year, police said.

Eiji Hiyakawa, from Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture, has admitted to the allegations of violating a local ordinance that bans obscene behavior toward youths.

Hiyakawa, 37, took the two 14-year-old girls, who he became acquainted with through a telephone-dating service, to a karaoke club in Yokohama in late December last year.

He stayed in a private booth at the club for about an hour, during which time he showed his genitals after making one of the girls stand in front of the window to block the view from outside.

He reportedly gave the then second-year students 14,000 yen. Police officers questioned him after one of the girls told them about his obscene behavior when questioned as a victim in a separate crime.

FULL TEXT BELOW:

The Minnesota Court of Appeals heard arguments Tuesday from a group of churches that claims the state's handgun law infringes on religious freedom.

David Lillehaug represents the 45 church groups and says the religious groups want to worship without firearms on their property.

The state law, in effect for five months, prohibits churches and other property owners from barring guns in their parking lots and rental facilities.

Deputy Attorney General Hilary Caligiuri defended the law, telling the three-judge panel that it provides no criminal penalties or mechanism to enforce it on churches that flout it.

Therefore, she says it makes no real inroads on religious freedom.

The law makes permits to carry firearms available to most law-abiding, mentally competent adults.

"The biggest problem with the culture of political correctness is that it coerces individuals into accepting certain levels of prejudices, values, judgments, and beliefs - all of which are embraced by our society, just for the sake of denying said individuals the right to express their views and freedom of association. At the same time, it also establishes a state-mandated paradigm of contempt, hostility, and hatred for any set of unpopular ideas, beliefs, attitudes, opinions, and values to which the politically correct left neither ascribe nor respect. It is a destructive machination, which compels individuals to deny themselves the right to express their values, beliefs, and views often subject to intense public condemnation, repudiation, and, more often than not, even retaliation."

"A 15-year-old student with a loaded handgun in his belt was arrested at Wachusett Regional High School on Tuesday morning, but police do not believe he was targeting anyone."

"The Holden resident, whose name was not released because of his age, was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and arraigned in Worcester Juvenile Court, police Chief George R. Sherrill said."

" 'Our initial investigation leads us to believe that there was no individual or group of individuals seen as targets. There were no threats or anything of that nature,' Sherrill told the Telegram & Gazette of Worcester."

"The student 'brought the gun in as a defensive measure because of perceived threats,' Sherrill said."

"A judge sentenced four Miami police officers to prison Wednesday for planting guns after questionable police shootings or covering them up with lies."

"The sentences ranged from just over three years to 13 months, far less than prosecutors and victims' families had sought."

"Prosecutors had asked for sentences as long as 11 years in the city's biggest police corruption scandal in nearly two decades, which was blamed on anti-crime units under pressure to halt a rash of deadly tourist robberies in the mid-1990s. Prosecutors sought the stiffest sentence against Aguero, noting he spent more of his 17-year police career relieved of duty than on duty."

But guns are only appropriate for law enforcement officers, right?

And how did Britain's gun ban help this latest victim of government disarmament?

"A woman was attacked by a man armed with a rifle as she sunbaked at a beach near Byron Bay."

"Police said the 39-year-old woman was sunbaking behind a sand dune at Broken Head Beach, on the NSW north cost, about 1.30pm (AEDT), when she was approached by a man wearing a balaclava and carrying a rifle."

"The woman struggled with the attacker and managed to attract the attention of a passerby by screaming for help."

"The attacker fled into nearby biteau bush."

"Police searched the area extensively but the attacker appeared to have escaped."

"The woman was shaken but uninjured in the attack."

-------
Meanwhile, the Australian government continues to implement its victim disarmament scheme. Expect an increase in stories of unarmed prey being victimized by armed criminals.

"Despite efforts by Mexican and U.S. authorities to curb illegal arms, there continues to be a flood of guns imported from the United States into Mexico, the Houston Chronicle reported Oct. 12."

"According to the latest report on crime trends by the United Nations, Mexico had 3,589 shooting deaths in 2000, placing the country fifth on the worldwide list for gun deaths per capita."

-------
So what's the implication here? That it's America's fault that Mexico can't control its criminal problems?

"Local law enforcement officials are set against a concealed-carry bill which would allow Wisconsin residents to carry a concealed weapon in public but others in the area support the action."

"On Friday the Senate voted 24-8 in favor to overturn the state's 130-year-old ban on concealed weapons. Green and Lafayette county law enforcement officials hope the bill doesn't become a law."

"Those in favor of the bill say allowing citizens to conceal weapons will reduce crimes. Sheriffs Pedley and Roderick disagree with that claim."

" 'I am opposed to the legislation in its current form. I have not seen any evidence that carrying concealed weapons does reduce crime,' [Lafayette County Sheriff Scott] Pedley said."

-------
Maybe Sheriff Pedley should pick up a copy of John Lott's "More Guns Less Crime," some newspapers and a copy of the US Constitution.

"Facing a charging bear he described as 'the size of a washing machine,' Enar Rosen had time to get off one shot from his deer rifle. When that didn’t stop the animal, the Bozeman man knew he was in trouble."

" 'He was just so powerful, there wasn’t much to do but let him chew on me,' said Rosen, who spent one night in a Livingston hospital for observation after the Sunday attack. 'I was out of options, except to play dead.' "

"When the attack was over, Rosen had puncture wounds in his shoulder and a gash in his neck."

-------
Any other questions as to why someone would need a .50 cal handgun?

"A 14-year-old New Jersey schoolboy — whose dad and stepdad are in the military — was suspended for five days because he drew a 'patriotic' stick figure of a U.S Marine blowing away a Taliban fighter, officials said yesterday." ...

"Scott Switzer, of Colts Neck, was sent home last week from Tinton Falls Middle School after a teacher saw the image on a computer and described it to the principal." ...

"Scott said he understood the school's concern for student safety, but was offended by the principal's comments."

" 'Truth be told, I'm more upset that he'd insinuate that I'm mentally unstable,' he said. 'I'm the class clown. I'm not a bully.' "

"Muzzleloader seasons for big game have been part of the Colorado Division of Wildlife's game- management programs for more than 30 years. Authorized equipment and regulations have basically kept up with the advances in muzzleloading technology while still retaining the spirit of muzzleloading hunting."

"In-line rifles were banned for a short stretch after a storm of protests by traditionalists, but were returned to the fold when calmer heads prevailed. Historical evidence had been presented to the wildlife commission confirming that in-line black-powder rifles had been in existence since the early 1700s."
