Ninety-eight percent of gun owners are law-abiding people

The problem is not the availability of guns. It is the criminals, thugs, and malcontents who have no respect for laws, human life, or property. Most of them already have criminal records and should be in prison. As long as the judicial system keeps freeing them on bail, plea bargain or probation the problem will continue.

There always have been evil people in the world with little or no compassion for others. One large factor that prevents them from engaging in even more illicit and harmful behavior is the fear of encountering a legally armed individual. This explains the popularity of so-called  gun prohibition zones when it comes to mass shootings.

Keep concealed or openly carried guns out of schools, the Ann Arbor Public Schools Board of Education has asked Gov. Rick Snyder.

Ann Arbor schools has been a a leader among Michigan school districts that want to keep guns out of schools.

In March, the district passed policies banning guns from schools after Ann Arbor resident Josh Wade open carried a pistol into Pioneer High School for a choir concert.

A recent Gallup poll shows a majority of women think having a gun makes their homes safer.

In the last eight years, the number of women taking out gun permits has skyrocketed 270 percent. These armed women insist they have good reason to be.

“I am single, I do live alone and unfortunately my previous relationship did not end well,"gun owner Ivonne Yeste said."

“I was always really fearful of guns, then the Sandy HookE lementary School shooting happened and it really affected me at the time,” said Michelle Reynolds, chapter founder of The Well Armed Woman. “I had a daycare in my home with 12 children and two girls working for me. There was a piece of me that stood up and said, 'That’s enough.'"

Like many Americans, I frequently carry a gun. I’ve done so for over 30 years without ever laying hand to it in need.

Professor John Lott of the Crime Prevention Research Center reports that some 12.8 million people, over 5.2% of the adult U.S. population, are licensed to carry a concealed handgun.

Sarah loves to run and always tries to stay aware of her surroundings. So she agreed to take the new Defense Alert Device (DAD) out for a test run. It's designed with a powerful light you can use to temporarily blind an attacker and a military strength pepper spray.

Michael Teig developed the dad for his 7 daughters, especially for use on college campuses. If a person feels frightened, it has a Bluetooth crowd alert button to alert others with the app that they needs help.

"I mean literally in one instant, 5,000 people within a quarter-mile of me on campus could get an alert with my picture, my name, they know who I am, where I am and that I'm in trouble," he said.

A shooting is being ruled self-defense after a 38-year-old man was found dead in a driveway on Fire Tower Road in Orrum, North Carolina Wednesday evening, according to Robeson County Sheriff Kenneth Sealy.

At about 7:48 p.m., the sheriff’s office received a call about a person being shot, and deputies arrived to find Antonio Baker shot and deceased in a driveway, Sheriff Sealy said. Baker lived off Jordan Road in Lumberton.

FL: For self-defense, select a nine-shot, .22-caliber revolver

Every time President Obama talks about taking away our guns, people rush out to buy one while they can, but what type of gun is best?

First, I do not recommend any semi-automatic pistol for self-defense, because if you get a misfire, it takes two strong hands to jerk the slide back to eject the bad bullet and let a new one in.

Second, if you don't hold the gun tight, the mechanism won't work and your gun could jam. In either case, you could get killed.

My choice for a gun for self-defense is a nine-shot .22-caliber revolver. If you get a misfire in a revolver, just pull the trigger again to bring a good bullet under the firing pin.

IL: Taking guns away is unconstitutional

My stance is no secret. If someone asks me I’m going to tell them, we all have a right to own guns.

Taking them away is unconstitutional and I prefer not to die due to home invasion of any other situation that involves self deference.

Yes, if you haven’t guessed it already, I am republican.

But my political views have very little to do with my pro-gun opinion.

I think there should be classes you have to take to be able to own a gun or a gun license.

Oh wait, there is, it’s called the Firearm Owners Identification Card, ladies and gentlemen and any sane, law-abiding citizen fills it out, if they want a gun.

The 30-year-old delivery driver, who works for Domino’s Pizza but has not been identified, was taking five pizzas to a house on Playschool Drive around 9:30 p.m. when he was approached by the two suspects, one of whom was armed with a 12-gauge shotgun, according to reports from the Florida Times-Union.

In an interview with MRCTV Wednesday, O’Malley, who was at the Boulder, Colorado GOP debate was asked why he was doing so poorly in the polls and he shot back at the reporter, “I don’t know man what do you think?”

KS: Under city's 'stand your ground' ordinance, you can shoot a man but not a skunk

A man dialed 911, asking the dispatcher if he could shoot a skunk that was eating out of his garden.

The man was promptly told no, which begs the question: If a skunk was shot in a person’s backyard because it was eating out of a garden and nobody was around to hear it, did it make a sound?

In this case, yes. The sound of a gunshot at the critter would possibly be heard by a neighbor, who might then call Hutchinson police.

A visit by police for shots fired in city limits warrants a citation for unlawful discharge of a firearm, in violation of a city ordinance.

Brazil: Brazil eyes 'Wild West' gun ownership law

Brazil, which has one of the highest murder tolls on the planet, could soon end most restrictions on gun ownership, risking what one critic called a "Wild West" scenario.

A draft law stripping away current limits has already been approved in committee and is due to go to the lower house of Congress in November.

Under the law, anyone over 21, including people accused of crimes or convicted of less than serious crimes, would be allowed to purchase up to nine firearms a year and 50 rounds of ammunition a month.

State employees and public figures, ranging from government inspectors to politicians, would be authorized to carry arms, as would private citizens often in the public eye such as taxi drivers.

Amish challenge photo i.d. requirement for gun purchases

As Obama stumps for gun control in Chicago, an interesting case has been filed in an effort to protect both religious liberty and the Second Amendment. An Amish man from Pennsylvania attempted to purchase a gun via legal channels and was denied because he did not have a photo id, and he did not have that photo id because of his religious beliefs.

The Amish in Lancaster Country believe that a photograph of themselves is the equivalent of a disallowed “graven image” and thus refuse to allow themselves to be photographed. This is a religious exemption/exception that has been readily acknowledged and accepted by state and local government who have issued photoless ids and drivers’ licenses to Amish people.

Meeks said the decrease is owed to efforts supported by LCADV and The Wellspring, a northeast Louisiana domestic violence service provider, and the use of specialized prosecutors, accelerated dockets for domestic violence cases, victimless prosecutions and intervention programs for abusers.

She said the elimination of preset bail for domestic violence offenders, meaning defendants go in front of a judge before they can be released, has also played a role.

Open-carry campuses will encourage, incite violence

In the wake of seemingly every mass shooting in the United States, gun control opponents invoke the argument that if more people carried concealed firearms, then one of those armed citizens could have neutralized the attacker. This notion may appeal to gun owners who see Charles Bronson when they look in the mirror, but it rests upon the dubious logic of using more guns to address a problem that essentially begins and ends with guns themselves.

Gun advocacy groups are now pushing to allow concealed carry on college campuses, presumably in response to the number of high profile shootings that have occurred at schools throughout the country.

Ed.: Story is about concealed carry on campus, not open carry.

AZ: After gun show shooting Tombstone saying ‘no’ to blanks

Another area of contention is the use of guns that fire live rounds.

“Why wouldn’t you use a gun that only fires blanks?” asked Henry Simpson, a Huachuca City resident who often visits Tombstone.

Blank pistols are precisely what movie directors use for filming. A 9 mm blank pistol does not guarantee safety, but it does make sets safer.

But, the solution is not as easy as switching to blank pistols.

The Vigilantes use real guns because it’s more authentic and historically accurate, said Davis.

“The justification is that they look more real, and they sound more real,” said Davis.

A Chicago-based start-up has revealed a controversial, non-lethal gun that can cause victims to go temporarily blind.

The Salt device is a cross between a gun and pepper spray, and was created by a company of the same name to be used in self-defence.

But soon after being launched on crowd-funding site Indiegogo, the device was pulled from the site.

CA: Toward a city with fewer guns

If ever a city needed gun control, Stockton is it. Gun violence here takes a terrible toll.

Its cost is even higher than death and misery.

The city’s long-standing failure to ensure basic public safety corrodes confidence in City Hall. It segregates the community into pockets of order and disorder.

It hurts Stockton’s other crying need: jobs. Imagine when potential employers Google Stockton and find it is California’s third most dangerous city.

Not to mention the Cleveland schoolyard massacre of 1989. A community subject to such horror has every right to support solutions.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
"You seem ... to consider the judges as the ultimate arbiters of all contitutional questions; a very dangerous doctrine indeed, and one which would place us under the despotism of an oligarchy... The Contitution has erected no such single tribunal." --Thomas Jefferson, 1820
