In light of the escalating public health crisis of firearm violence in the United States, the American College of Physicians (ACP) has added four position statements and recommendations to the six their board approved in 2014. An editorial, published along with the statement, addresses what a physician can do to help prevent firearm injury. |

When 2016 Democrat presidential candidate Hillary Clinton appeared on CNN to discuss the combative atmosphere in Washington, D.C. surrounding the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, and the midterm elections, she tried to justify the lack of civility on the part of Democrats and liberals.
It backfired immediately, when TGM Publisher Alan Gottlieb and Senior Editor Dave Workman teamed up with an Op-Ed response that was sent to every newspaper in the country. Here’s what they had to say, perhaps with tongue in cheek. |

The Seattle-based gun prohibition lobbying group behind gun control Initiative 1639 launched an email blast Monday evening that blames the AR-15 rifle for the deadly attack on a Pittsburgh synagogue, apparently ignoring two facts: the suspect is described as an anti-Semite, and police officers responding to the shooting were armed with the same type of firearm, and they acted to save lives.
But the Safe Schools, Safe Communities lobbying group behind I-1639—which critics say would strip young adults of their Second Amendment rights—had this to say in their email message. |

When seconds count, it’s been proven time and again that you can only count on yourself. In true emergencies, family, friends or the police will likely be too far away to help. Shannon Gaasch found that out firsthand when she heard glass shatter in the middle of the night. Someone had thrown a brick through her friend’s door in Baltimore. Trapped on the second floor with nowhere to go, Gaasch, along with the homeowner and her 2-year-old son, ran to the rooftop where Gaasch called 911. |

Over the past 50 years, a wide-ranging, well-funded political, cultural, and legal revisionism effort has been undertaken to erase much of the United States’ history and culture of the gun and the Second Amendment. The New York Times’s Nick Kristof’s recent column, “It’s Time To Talk About The NRA” (because no one’s been talking about them!) is a good example of this trend.

The Second Amendment Foundation today condemned what it considers blatant media bias against firearms, which invariably seems to show up in headlines and news reports just prior to an election. "We've got an important midterm election next week," noted SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb, "and gun control versus gun rights is an important shadow issue because Democrats have already made it clear that guns will be on the agenda if they take control of the Congress." |

A gun control organization levied criticism against a pro-gun group for suggesting that the Holocaust would not have happened if people had been armed. Oregon Firearms Federation (OFF) previously posted images of the Holocaust in response to an attempted ballot measure to ban certain firearms and magazines with more than a 10-round capacity. OFF, whose website says it is "Oregon's only no compromise gun rights organization," took aim at Rabbi Michael Cahana in its comments. |

The 2012 massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School has become an emotional issue in the final days of Connecticut’s close race for governor. Democrats gathered at the state Capitol Monday to warn that electing Republican Bob Stefanowski could risk the wide-ranging gun control measures passed by the General Assembly following the deadly Newtown mass shooting. They also claim electing someone backed by the NRA as Connecticut’s next governor would send the wrong message to the nation and destroy momentum for federal gun safety legislation. |

Recently I was talking with a couple of CCW instructors and listening to their sad comments about too many of their students. These men were bemoaning the fact that their students couldn’t get off the range fast enough as soon as class was over. This was in spite of the fact that both instructors offered free range time for additional practice, advanced classes for more training, and would even loan guns so the students could find what really suited them. They were afraid that too few CCW holders realize that their education has just begun with that basic class. |

With the recent Pittsburgh Synagogue shooting, both candidates running for governor are revisiting gun laws. Democrat Tony Evers said on Monday, if elected, he’s willing to toughen licensing requirements on Wisconsin’s concealed carry law. It’s a bill his opponent Governor Scott Walker passed in 2011. Walker’s campaign said the governor does not support any changes to concealed carry law. |
