" Aaron Zelman, founder and director of Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership (JPFO), unveiled a new program today to counteract the unceasing lies and dangerous propaganda of the victim disarmament (gun control) lobby -- lies and propaganda mostly aimed at a captive audience of children in the public school system, and spread like a disease by the mass media -- while providing hours of wholesome family fun."
"The program, called 'Goody Guns' consists of a special cookie cutter in the shape of a semiautomatic pistol. With the supervision and help of the adults in their lives, boys and girls can turn their own kitchens into "Arsenals of Liberty" by making gun-shaped cookies ... while absorbing firearms safety lessons ..." ... |

"'Would banning firearms reduce murder and suicide?'"
"What with all the calls to do just that, and all the laws building up to it, that sounds like a fair question."
"It's posed by Don B. Kates and Gary Mauser in the Spring 2007 Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy."
"Kates is an American criminologist, lawyer and constitutional scholar. Mauser is a Canadian criminologist and university professor. Both are published authors of numerous articles and books. Both are well recognized as top experts in their fields. You don’t earn their reputations in academic and legal circles by being demonstrably wrong, so people on both sides of the gun control debate would do well to consider their findings." ... |

"Misguided NRA bashers are doing a better job of helping the anti-gun movement than the anti-gunners could do themselves. You may have heard or read things like 'NRA pushing gun control' or 'NRA supporting bill to disarm veterans' or 'NRA in bed with Schumer and Kennedy,' etc. A number of gun rights organizations have generated a wave of criticism over HR 2640 and its supposedly terrible effect on gun ownership. They make the NRA sound so bad that Sarah Brady might even become a Life Member. The misinformed pro-gunners who spew this venom are shooting our gun rights in the foot and potentially stopping thousands of otherwise law abiding citizens from regaining their gun rights." ... |

"I have been overlooking the cases that the NRA Civil Rights Defense Fund has taken on or assisted in. Then take a look at the Gun Owners Foundation and the cases that they have assisted in. Not surprising is that a majority of the cases are dealing with the ATF and how the ATF has trampled on the rights of citizens."
"This is a very dysfunctional agency, that is far beyond repair with problems on the inside as well. Or the waste or tax dollars, it was on the day of our appeal that former ATF Director Carl Truscott resigned for alleged mismanagement and misconduct, the OIG Report[.pdf] is a must read." ... |

"Regardless of minor percentage decreases in violence rates from one year to the next, the fact remains that crime is still a major problem in Los Angeles, as well as in just about any other major city."
"The Bureau of Justice Statistics shows that guns are used in homicides 50 percent more often than any other type of weapon ... so the logical solution to this problem should be to ban guns."
"But inevitably, whenever a gun ban is suggested, hunting fanatics and Constitution lovers across the nation come to the fore ..."
"This leaves the nation stuck; we can't ban guns because of the Constitutional right to bear arms, and we can't get rid of urban violence because we can't ban guns." ... |

"To the Readers' Forum: Concerning people who own licensed guns for protection of life and property, I'm for that. Some people feel if they live in a 'nice neighborhood,' they're protected against crime. Maybe, once that was the way of it, but now a days, no neighborhoods are exempt from ones bent on robbery, larceny, destruction, arson and/or murder. People can have house and car alarms, but there are ones who know how to disconnect alarms. When persons are bent on God knows what, and get into homes, what then? If people have no protection, they are at the mercy of those persons. ... Home dwellers need weapons for safety purposes, if they chose to have them." ... |

"...Arms can only be controlled by arms. An armed nation only can keep up an army, and also maintain its liberty. The constitution of the United States, overlooking this undeniable truth, has placed both the raising an army, and the arming of the militia, among the potential attributes of the general government; whereas the first belonged to the principle of accumulation, and the latter to the principle of division. One, therefore, is a power, and the other a check upon that power. One is a foe, the other a friend to liberty. One strengthens the government, the other the nation. And a sound militia makes a government dependent on the nation..." |

Air Wisconsin pilot Erick Johnson, trained as a federal flight deck officer, left on a flight at 11:45 a.m., according to police reports. About an hour later, a custodian found his 40-caliber semiautomatic handgun in a black shaving kit on a desk at Gate 11.

"Sometimes, listening to politicians, police and the media, it can sound as if there is a gun-toting criminal on every street corner. The truth is far more nuanced. Serious gun crime is concentrated in particular parts of England and Wales; internationally, the country has a low death rate from guns compared with EU states such as France and Finland." ...
"How many illegal weapons are there?"
"The Government has no estimate, although it is clear that they are easy to obtain and becoming cheaper. Guns can even be hired for an hour or an evening. Shotguns can be bought for £50 to £200 and handguns previously used in crime for about £150 to £200. An imitation firearm can cost as little as £20." ... -------
