Amid talk by Democrats to tighten gun laws, a Republican lawmaker from Florida wants the state to go in the other direction.
Florida Rep. Anthony Sabatini of Lake County on Tuesday filed House Bill 273 which would remove the requirement for a license to carry a concealed firearm where it is currently required for lawful gun owners.
The bill also seeks to allow any person at least 18 years old to “possess a concealed firearm or other weapon for self-defense or other lawful purpose within the interior of a private conveyance, without a license, if the firearm or other weapon is securely encased or is otherwise not readily accessible for immediate use.” |

In a community outreach program that has been active since 2002, the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office recently held another Citizens Firearm Safety Course.
The course, according to instructor Mark Williams, a former officer at the sheriff’s office, combines a two hour classroom session during the week followed by a 1.5 hour session on a Saturday morning on the department’s shooting range. Both sessions are held at the Morgan County Public Safety Complex on Monticello Highway. |

Of all the alternative facts Mr. Trump and his toadies (a term now inapplicable to Rudolph W. Giuliani who has fallen from toady to treasonous lick-spittle) have rustled up to change the topic from the presidential corruption, abuse of power and subsequent cover-up, this attack on Mr. Biden’s gun plan might be the most shameless. And that’s saying something considering the ongoing effort to portray Hunter Biden as Public Enemy No. 1 instead of just another political insider beneficiary of nepotism. Among the Democrats running for president, Mr. Biden’s gun plan is unexceptional. Opponents like Elizabeth Warren, Cory Booker and Beto O’Rourke have gone further with provisions like mandatory gun buybacks and federal licensing. |

U.S. Sen. Doug Jones said he is a hunter and wants to protect Second Amendment rights, but noted he would like background checks with exceptions and funding for federal studies for a broad range of gun violence, including suicides.
Jones, who is in the state during the Congress' two-week congressional break, came to the Daily Mountain Eagle Monday for multi-media interviews over its print, YouTube and podcast formats. The YouTube interview will also be linked to its Facebook and Twitter accounts. |

Never one to mince words, Alan Gottlieb, chairman of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) issued a scathing news release about former Vice President Joe Biden’s “new” gun control scheme announced at a Nevada gun control forum, calling it “the same goal with a different sales pitch.”
But in an exclusive chat with Ammoland News, the veteran Second Amendment advocate, looking somewhat tongue-in-cheek at Biden’s current dilemma surrounding his son, Hunter’s involvement with a Ukranian gas and oil project while the elder Biden was vice president, wondered, “Maybe if we paid his son $50,000, like the Ukranians did, Joe might become a Second Amendment supporter.” |

Anti-gun advocates ranging from Beto O’Rourke to The Des Moines Register have supported “assault weapons” confiscation and bans on the sale of their ammunition. “An assault weapon” is merely a semiautomatic gun that bears a cosmetic resemblance to military guns, but which is not capable of full-automatic fire. There is no such thing as ammunition exclusively used by “assault weapons”. Assault weapons are available in a wide variety of calibers, using ammunition ranging from .22 rimfire to 12 gauge shotgun. Both policies punish law-abiding gun owners, such as Pastor David George, who used his handgun to kill a Walmart active shooter, and AR-15 shooter Stephen Willeford, who stopped the Texas church shooter. |

While there was plenty wrong with Wednesday’s House Judiciary Hearing on H.R. 1296, the proposed ban on semi-automatic firearms introduced by Representative David Cicilline (D-R.I.), there were some shining moments for those who still support the Second Amendment.
First, there were the two women who testified in opposition to the latest attempt at banning America’s most popular rifles.
Amy Swearer, the Senior Legal Policy Analyst for the Meese Center for Legal and Judicial Studies, used an effective combination of statistics, research, analytical thinking, and anecdotal evidence in her testimony to point out the massive flaws with enacting a revised version of the failed 1994 Clinton gun ban. |

The study is farcical. Participants were shown photos of criminals, soldiers, police in military gear or police in regular gear with guns. Researchers then measured aggressive thoughts with a test. Participants could fill in two blank spaces after the letters “Ki” as “Kill” or “Kiss.” (Whatever a person’s views, “kiss” is a weird and uncomfortable word to have to fill in when looking at someone with a gun.) So surprise, surprise, the photos of individuals with guns—tools often bought for self-defense—elicited aggressive thoughts, according to this test. |

The FBI released its Uniform Crime Report for 2018 on Monday. Notably, the number of homicides decreased significantly — by 7%. What may be even more surprising is that murders committed with firearms fell by 6.7%. And of those murders committed with a firearm, only 2.8% were with a rifle (this includes AR-type rifles), for a total of 297. It’s not a new trend, but The Washington Free Beacon notes, “Rifles were used less often to commit murder than knives, fists, and blunt objects.” Meanwhile, the overall steady decrease in violent crime has coincided with a steady increase in the number of firearms sold and owned. These are the facts. |

“Once the county filed suit (we had already raised the money) we waited to see what their suit would look like,” Pruett wrote, adding that ISAA is working with the national gun rights group Second Amendment Foundation.
“After the county filed suit our lawyers and the lawyers with the SAF looked it over extensively and informed us that the county has an excellent suit filed,” he wrote. “The attorneys for both organizations felt it was best at this point to help the county via an amicus brief and other efforts.” |

Fox Nation host Tomi Lahren had strong words for California officials after the National Rifle Association declared a victory in a legal battle against the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, which recently declared the group a “national terrorist organization" and called for vendors to limit business dealings with the group.
"So that makes the score: Freedom 1, Second Amendment 1, law-abiding American gun owners 1, and the socialist-wannabe, homeless encampment by the bay — a big fat zero," said Lahren on her Fox Nation show "Final Thoughts." |
