"The point is made: firearms are legal. That doesn’t mean we need to be obnoxious about it."
"On Sept. 9, Benjamin A. Magenheimer was escorted out of the Masker Park Zoo in Evansville for reportedly causing a disturbance with zoo employees and law enforcement. Magenheimer’s attorney claims he was removed because he was openly carrying his gun."
"If the attorney’s claims are true, legally, Magenheimer was in the right. According to a new Indiana law, gun owners can take their weapons into most public spaces (the exceptions are courthouses, schools, and hospitals with convicts)." ... |

... "And therein lies a fundamental American problem. Our nation has more guns per capita than any Western industrialized nation and one of the highest murder rates. Yet as Adam Winkler, professor of constitutional law at UCLA, laments in his illuminating, balanced examination of the protracted gun debate, many myths about guns in our culture seem to ensure that nothing effective will be done to reduce the carnage." ... |

"RUSH: We got a couple stories on this Fast and Furious business, one from CBS and the other is the Los Angeles Times. ... Well, Sharyl Attkisson, CBS: 'New documents obtained by CBS News show Attorney General Eric Holder was sent briefings on the controversial Fast and Furious operation as far back as July 2010. That directly contradicts his statement to Congress. On May 3, 2011, Holder told a Judiciary Committee hearing, 'I'm not sure of the exact date, but I probably heard about Fast and Furious for the first time over the last few weeks.' Yet new documents obtained by CBS News show Eric Holder was sent briefings on Fast and Furious as far back at July 2010, a year ago. ..." ... |

"The Fast and Furious scandal, in which the Justice Department knowingly gave Mexican criminal gangs thousands of guns, just keeps escalating. The latest development centers around whether or not Attorney General Eric Holder lied to Congress about having knowledge of the controversial gun trafficking operation. Recently released documents say Holder was briefed about the operation long before he told the Judiciary Committee he was first aware of what was going on. (Holder now claims he misunderstood the question was being asked.)"
"What's more, CBS News investigative journalist Sharyl Attkisson ... says ... today that the White House and Justice Department have taken to screaming at her for reporting on the story. ..." .. |

"New documents reportedly show that Attorney General Eric Holder knew about the "Fast and Furious" gun operation months before he claims he learned about it."
"According to a report from The Hill, in November 2010 Assistant Attorney General Lanny Breuer wrote a memo to Holder about a sealed indictment against alleged gun traffickers in Arizona. He wrote that the indictment would remain sealed 'until another investigation, Phoenix-based 'Operation Fast and Furious,' is ready for takedown.'" ... |

"Somewhere in the haze surrounding Colorado's legalization of medical marijuana lies yet another legal controversy, if not outright hypocrisy, with potential ramification for gun-owning hunters."
"As if the relationship between a federal government that classifies pot as a Class 1 narcotic and a state constitutional amendment classifying it as an acceptable form of medication isn't awkward enough, a Sept. 21 letter sent out by the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives that expressly prohibits medicinal marijuana users from owning guns takes the issue to another level. Specifically, the level of federal prosecution of anyone who carries a marijuana card alongside their NRA card." ... |

"Last week this column highlighted that a likely consequence of this bill becoming law would be widespread open carry shotguns or rifles in public places like Ralphs grocery stores, Starbucks, sidewalks, streets, and other public places from San Francisco to San Diego. But long gun carry rights do not satisfy the Second Amendment said the US Supreme Court in District of Columbia v. Heller (striking down the District of Columbia’s handgun ban even though long guns were not banned)." ... |

"An armed society, science fiction author Robert Heinlein once said, 'is a polite society. Manners are good when one may have to back up his acts with his life.' Let's put that another way: Those who fear that looser firearms restrictions will lead to a bloodbath haven't paid attention to the real-world effects of less gun control. And they haven't considered the obvious: Bad people always have access to all the guns they need; honoring the Second Amendment just levels the field and makes the bad people less likely to take on the good people." ... |
