You save thousands of lives every day. Firearms instructor David Cole brought us four recent stories of armed defense. Some of the good guys had to press the trigger, and some didn't.

This is what we can learn.

And I'm here to tell you that Second Amendment mythologies and revisionist history continue to result in needless firearm-related deaths, suffering and trauma. If law-abiding gun owners do not start publicly speaking up, we cannot expect to find solutions to our nation's unacceptable levels of gun-related violence.

I understand and appreciate why gun owners — the large majority of whom are law-abiding — are reluctant to risk the slings and arrows of the Republican Party, the Fox/Breitbart/Alex Jones/Tucker Carlson conspiracy theorists and pundits, and, perhaps, even their friends and family.

A federal judge in Albuquerque on Tuesday extended a temporary restraining order that effectively blocks a new state ban on the carrying firearms at public parks, playgrounds and other areas provided for children to play in.

U.S. District Judge David Urias said, after reviewing written arguments from both sides, he will decide Oct. 11 whether the latest temporary public health order from Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s administration can be enforced in Bernalillo County.

U.S. District Judge George L. Russell's September 29 opinion in Kipke v. Moore, which addresses two lawsuits by Maryland carry permit holders and gun rights groups, confirms that politicians were mistaken in thinking they could defy Bruen by expanding the list of "sensitive places" where firearms are not allowed. At the same time, it shows that judges disagree about how to apply the constitutional test established by Bruen, which asks whether a gun control law is "consistent with this Nation's historical tradition of firearm regulation."

Enforcement of the temporary restrictions on guns is on hold pending authorization from the court, said Holly Agajanian, chief counsel to the governor. That leaves little or no way currently to determine whether people still are carrying guns in areas flagged for restrictions under the health order.

Urias has declined a request to explicitly block new provisions that suspend gun-carry rights at playgrounds, noting in recent court filing that the provision "may very well be constitutional."

But the Palm Beach County School Board wants flexibility.

Chairman Frank Barbieri wants the Florida Legislature to differentiate Tasers from other deadly weapons, noting that many students caught with them don't understand the consequences.

"We go through this almost on a monthly basis where we are expelling a kid who had no intention, doesn't show it to anybody, doesn't take it out, has no intent to hurt anybody," Barbieri said at a Sept. 6 school board meeting. "Had it in her backpack because mom and dad bought it for her because she walks through a bad neighborhood on her way from the bus, and she has it there just in case she needs it if somebody tries to get her."

Tallahassee, Fl-Florida Senator Shevrin D. "Shev" Jones (D) of Miami-Dade has filed a bill that would abrogate Florida’s ‘Stand Your Ground’ gun laws.

In Florida, ‘Stand Your Ground’ laws exempt Floridians from a duty to retreat when protecting themselves or their property from an attacker.

Senator Jones’ bill would install a duty to retreat and prohibit Floridians from using, or threatening to use, deadly force when protecting themselves or their property.

Additionally, Jones’ proposed legislation would also make Floridians who use, or threaten to use, deadly force liable to potential criminal prosecution and civil action.

A federal judge in Texas has issued a new preliminary injunction for Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) members and Maxim Defense against the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Final Rule (Final Rule 2021R-08F) on pistol stabilizing devices.

The case, Mock v. Garland, challenged the ATF’s ban on pistols equipped with stabilizing braces. FPC brought the suit in the Northern District of Texas. It was assigned to Judge Reed O’Connor, who has a stellar record on gun rights. This case would be no different.

And yet, a group of extremist judges has made a decision that will make life for people in abusive situations even more dangerous. In February, a three-judge panel of the federal Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in United States v. Rahimi that the federal prohibition on gun possession for people subject to domestic violence restraining orders is unconstitutional under the Second Amendment.

The Fifth Circuit’s decision in Rahimi is putting domestic violence survivors living in the Fifth Circuit in danger right now.

Scalise, 57, entered the House in May 2008, representing Louisiana’s 1st Congressional District, largely made up of New Orleans’ suburbs. In his 15 years in office, Scalise has come to be known as a harsh critic of Democratic immigration measures and as an outspoken proponent of Second Amendment rights, earning the endorsement of the National Rifle Association. After his shooting at a congressional baseball practice in Virginia, Scalise, then House majority whip, said the attack reinforced his position on gun rights because he “was saved by people who had guns.”

However, her progressive track record and history of working for liberal causes assures that she will pick up the gun control mantle.

Some lawyers believe that a community association can restrict firearms on common property, while others point out that owners have an ownership interest in the common areas.

If your community feels it has a particularly good reason to restrict concealed carry in a common area, it should still proceed cautiously. First, it may open itself to an expensive lawsuit by disagreeing owners. Second, this type of rule can prove challenging to enforce given the hidden nature of carrying a gun concealed.

George Michael Bush III, 31, was accused of a fatal Christmas morning shooting in 2022. A family member was shot and killed inside a home along Decota Road in Kanawha County after allegedly trying to break up a fight.

According to Kanawha County prosecutors, the jury determined that Bush was acting in self-defense and that the shooting was justified due to evidence that the victim was beating the father, who was blind.

A New York judge recently ordered the state of New York to pay the NRA nearly half a million dollars in legal fees following the U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark decision in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association (NYSRPA) v. Bruen (2022).

“The NRA regards the $447K award in the NYSRPA V. Bruen case as a pivotal victory, a symbol that justice is definitively on our side,” Michael Jean, NRA director of the Office of Litigation Counsel, told Fox News Digital. “This triumph in Bruen has fortified the Second Amendment in an unprecedented manner, and we continue our unrelenting fight to uphold our rights and challenge those who endeavor to infringe upon them.”

ISP opened the registration portal for semi-automatic firearms, attachments and .50 caliber ammunition Sunday. Jan. 1 is the deadline to register. Being found out of compliance could lead to criminal charges. The law is still being challenged in federal court.

How and why the BATFE feels they have this authority to decide law-abiding civilians can’t have NLTA arbitrarily is a mystery to us at this time.

UTM’s NLTA is imported from the UK and thus might be subject to “sporting use” importation laws. Likewise, Simunitions are imported from Canada and might get the same order from the BATFE if they haven’t already.

We spoke with Simunitions but they declined to comment.

Two new gun laws went into effect on Sunday in Colorado, bringing a new waiting period for gun purchases in Colorado and placing more legal culpability on gun manufacturers for people hurt or killed by weapons they build.

Now, Colorado Governor Jared Polis, a democrat, is speaking out and praising the waiting period as a step towards owning guns in a safe fashion across the state. “This shouldn’t get in the way of anybody who wants to be able to purchase a gun for hunting, recreation, or protecting your home. It’s simply making sure we’re able to do the background check and making sure that it’s a thoughtful decision,” said Polis.

Governor Newsom held a press conference Wednesday at which he signed almost two dozen new gun control laws, all designed to make it harder and more expensive to buy or have a gun to defend yourself or your family in California. Two of those bills have gotten the most attention – Senate Bill 2 and Assembly Bill 28. Legal challenges to those two bills, and others, are already in motion.

AB 28 imposes an 11% “sin tax,” as Newsom called it, on guns and ammo. However, choosing to own a gun is not a sin, and gun owners are not sinners. California Rifle & Pistol Association (CRPA) is working with our partners to file a lawsuit challenging this new tax on exercising your Second Amendment rights.
