... "Here is what I propose: let's make it unpopular to own a gun. Do not buy a gun, use a gun or support your friend's use of guns. Let others know that you think owning a gun is harmful to them and to others. There is no doubt that most Americans practice responsible ownership."
"Yet these responsible citizens create an environment that supports others to commit terrible crimes. Making it 'American' to own a gun encourages irresponsible people to own a lethal weapon. It appears today that school shootings are the collateral damage incurred from sustaining an unnecessary male urge to go duck hunting." ... |

"Not one piece of legislation put before the Congress in recent years to regulate the sale and possession of guns has attempted to remove the right of sane and qualified individuals to own a hunting weapon. Not one!"
"You would never know this from the propaganda spewed out by the National Rifle Association. It has drawn a Bush-like line in the sand. It's their way or no way at all."
"Does a deer hunter need an AK-47? Is there really a danger to our Second Amendment rights in requiring safety locks on guns to prevent their misuse by children?" ... |

"There is a mystique to hunting big game with a muzzleloader, given the special set of skills necessary. Those who hunt with a modern replica of the firearms carried by Daniel Boone or the mountain men need even more savvy."
"With a muzzleloader, there is only one chance for success. If you participate in the state's special muzzleloader seasons, which get going in the Northern Zone next weekend, or simply choose these particular firearms for hunting during the regular deer season, blackpowder guns only allow one shot. If you miss, there is no second chance, just the white tail of a nice buck running away." ... |

"I was pleased to hear that you have asked your staff to convene a White House Conference on school gun violence. I want to congratulate you for taking this action and offer my strong support."
"As the mayor of Fort Wayne, Ind. for three terms, I saw firsthand the terrible toll gun violence takes on our communities. As mayor, I tried everything I could to fight this scourge. I worked with survivors, faith leaders, neighborhood activists and law enforcement on a variety of programs. We didn't find all the answers, but working with all the groups, violence did begin to decline in our community." ... |

"We've heard these same arguments before. Almost every time there is a terrible tragedy involving gun violence, one of the gun lobby's favorite legislators comes out clamoring about the need for more guns. The fact is putting guns in our schools isn't the answer. KABA Note: No, but he held the shooters off long enough for dozens of people to escape.
