Regardless, those safeguards against abuse I mentioned above are important. So, that’s why I look askance at a new surveillance program being launched by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), using Automated License Plate Readers (APLR or LPR). First, let’s look at the technology as it’s applied on the local level.

California’s Legislative season has officially ended, finally. While many bad anti-gun-owner bills were defeated, Governor Brown did sign several bills that, while these new laws, piled on top of all the old laws, still won’t do anything to make us safer, will restrict the rights of law-abiding citizens.

Among these bills is Senate Bill No. 1100 (“SB 1100”), which raises the minimum age to purchase a “long gun” firearm. This restriction is scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2019.

If you’re reading this magazine, it tells me something about you. As an America’s 1st Freedom reader, you are among the most politically astute and politically active of NRA members—proven supporters of the Second Amendment. There’s no doubt you have stood in the trenches fighting for our freedom on many occasions, and there’s no doubt you are ready to do so again.

That’s especially important at this very moment. Right now, you—along with other NRA members—are all that stand between our precious liberties and an all-out onslaught on our freedom should gun-banners achieve victory in November’s all-important election.

Former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg reportedly argued Friday that guns need to be kept out of the hands of minorities in order to keep them alive.

While speaking at the Aspen Institute, Mr. Bloomberg, 72, said 95 percent of murders fall into a specific category: a male minority between the ages of 15 and 25, The Aspen Times reported.

Cities need to get guns out of this group’s hands and keep them alive, the former three-term mayor said, according to The Times.

Just in case gun owners needed another reason to back Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court or to get energized ahead of the 2018 midterm elections, the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey gave us one. On September 28, District Judge Peter G. Sheridan denied a motion for a preliminary injunction that would have enjoined enforcement of New Jersey’s 10-round magazine capacity limit.

This notion of “law abiding” gun owners is a false construct. When laws are twisted from their original, outdated meaning, it puts our safety and security at risk.

Let’s start with facts. There is NO federal law that allows for individual, private ownership of firearms in the United States. Not even the Second Amendment. The political lobbyist and special interest group known as the National Rifle Association, which represents gun manufacturers, worked over several years to subvert and change the general interpretation of the Second Amendment from its original intent. They spent a ton of money over several decade and pushed their selfish agenda, thus making our society far less safe.

Democratic Attorney General Maura Healey has made gun violence a key issue during her first term in office, earning praise from gun-control advocates but disdain from gun rights groups.

Not surprisingly, it has become a pivotal issue in Healey's re-election bid, with her Republican challenger accusing the incumbent of overstepping her authority on gun control.

"She is violating the Second Amendment," Republican Jay McMahon, a Bourne-based attorney challenging Healey in the Nov. 6 elections, said in a debate broadcast on WGBH radio Wednesday night. "She's been a political activist ... by her reinterpretation of the assault weapons ban. She signed an edict declaring whole categories of guns illegal to possess."

If Missourians want to protect their basic right to self-defense they need to replace Claire McCaskill."

At-risk young adults in Chicago are distrustful of police and believe a gun is necessary for protection, according to new research. The study, released on October 4, adds to the growing understanding of the city’s illegal gun market and underscores how the Police Department’s failure to solve the vast majority of shootings has reinforced perceptions of impunity.

Brett Kavanaugh’s likely confirmation as an associate justice of the Supreme Court has prompted not only exuberance and anger but also a kind of hazy worry in some corners that the circumstances of his ascension will call the Court’s legitimacy into doubt.

Judge Karas ruled that the first plaintiff could not claim his Second Amendment rights were violated because he already owned a gun, but could make an argument about privacy rights. The second plaintiff could argue both claims, he said.

He rejected the request to dismiss the Second Amendment claims because Ms. Underwood’s office merely argued the purpose of the law without explaining why it benefited the government.

He said that Ms. Underwood’s office could conceivably provide an explanation in the future and that his ruling does not mean he felt the law was invalid. “Rather, the court merely concludes that the plaintiffs have plausibly stated a Second Amendment claim,” he wrote.
