"...By waiting we hurt our cause. Every day that a law prohibiting Arms is on the books is one more day that a judge will have to consider that the law was unchallenged. Know of any 30 year old laws that have been declared void for constitutional conflicts? The longer a law is on the books the harder it is to be negated. This can be as much due to a lack of challenges as it can be attributed to unsuccessful challenges. So by waiting we give the anti gun side time. Time is something they have an abundance of & it is to their advantage to run the clock down as much as possible."

"The only ones who are served by waiting are the gun prohibitionists & the NRA..."

Felons And Guns Revisited

"The first misconception I see today is that most felons are violent. This simply is not true. In these days of mandatory sentencing guidelines, most criminals who did more than spit on the sidewalk or jaywalk are felons. Most drug possession charges are felonies. Most hot check charges are felonies. Most tax offenses are felonies. Most frauds are felonies. As a result, you have a huge group of felons today who are guilty of either unintentional or victimless crimes, and the majority are entirely non-violent. One of my closest friends today wrote some inadvertent hot checks thirty years ago, when she was all of seventeen. Today, she is an ordained minister who spends most of her time helping people. Nevertheless, she is branded as a felon forever - and forever barred from purchasing a firearm, although the State of Texas will generously permit her to possess a firearm in her home. And what firearm would that be? A gift that could get the giver in a lot of trouble? A firearm belonging to her spouse? Or perhaps a borrowed firearm? This is a recipe for disaster if I ever read one!"

"The U.S. Supreme Court has spoken on the Second Amendment and issues related to the constitutionally recognized right of individual citizens to keep and bear arms more times than most Americans might imagine, according to a new book entitled Supreme Court Gun Cases: Two Centuries of Gun Rights Revealed. One of the book's authors participated in a book forum discussion at the American Enterprise Institute Friday."

"Dr. Stephen Halbrook, an attorney who has represented the National Rifle Association (NRA) and won three pro-gun cases before the U.S. Supreme Court, said anyone looking to the past decisions of the Supreme Court to clarify the meaning of the Second Amendment is probably going to be disappointed."

"The Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals Friday granted en banc review of a panel’s ruling that a defendant could not claim that a gun used in a series of robberies was an 'antique' after a previous jury ruled against him on the issue."

"In a brief order signed by Chief Judge Mary M. Schroeder, the court said a majority of its unrecused active judge had agreed to have an en banc panel reconsider the April 24 decision in United States v. Arnett, 00-30189."

"While other speakers stuck to the subject of assault weapons, Kennedy assailed Dean, saying he was 'saddened' that one of his party's leading presidential candidates is 'pro-NRA.' He suggested that Dean has 'compromised his principles' as a physician by opposing stronger federal gun controls."

"Ben and Juanita Colvin, after years of government harassment and interference with their ranching operation, the confiscation of 62 head of their cattle at gunpoint, and the resulting shutting down of their ranching operation, recently sued the federal government for $30 million compensation under the Fifth Amendment of the Constitution. The Complaint, filed August 16 in the U.S. Court of Federal Claims in Washington, D.C., alleges in part that the Federal government transferred the Colvin’s water and forage rights to the Bureau of Land Management and third parties; allowed 1,300 head of wild horses to trespass on Colvin’s grazing allotment; and threatened Mr. Colvin’s family and employees to prevent them from using their vested water rights and forage rights."

"Shadow Public Safety Minister Maxwell Burgess last night called for a gun amnesty in Bermuda.
Such an amnesty would allow those owning illegal firearms to turn them in to the authorities without any consequences."

"Mr. Burgess said there was a belief in the community that there were a large number of firearms on the Island. And he cited a recent incident where Police chased a man brandishing what appeared to be a firearm."

"Mr. Burgess was not deterred by a poor response to previous amnesties."

Bearing Arms vs Bare Arms

"It is incredible to ponder how these two amendments, which are fundamental to freedom in this republic, have played out in politics. The First has been stretched, contorted and turned inside out to be used to dispute prayer in schools, the Pledge of Allegiance, displays of the Ten Commandments, Nativity scenes, books and busses for parochial schools and sundry other purposes. This has all been done with justification through the phrase 'Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion'. Incredibly, many of the very same forces that have taken the First Amendment to this extreme argue, in all seriousness, that laws restricting firearms are legal. But you can't have it both ways." ...

"While the citizens of nondiscretionary states may now enjoy seemingly unfettered rights to carry concealed handguns, they must also wrestle with some thorny but very important questions: Which areas are permitted and prohibited for concealed carry weapons? What constitutes justifiable use of a handgun for personal protection? May a handgun be used to protect other individuals? May it be used to protect property?"

"I was born in Exeter in 1940 and still live there. Before I was old enough to drive, I often rode my bicycle through downtown Exeter on the way to a place called Fort Rock to go target shooting. I would carry my .22 semi automatic 'assault rifle' slung over my shoulder and stop at Young's Hardware store on Water Street to get ammo for the terrorism I was about to inflict upon the soup can covers I had in my back pocket."

"Believe it or not I've not always been what most would consider a 'radical'. After 9-11 I was probably one of the biggest patriots around. I wrote an article not long after the tragedy of that day describing how that day's events had affected an ordinary Missouri family. I supported the President 100%. His courage made me glad that I had voted for him. I supported my government 100%. I would have picked up my gun and went to war if they had called upon me to do so at that time. So what has changed?"

"What has changed is that the government has used this tragedy to broaden its authority over the American people. Of course, it is claimed to be for our own 'protection'. But how can they protect us when they are now giving illegal aliens' driver's licenses, rewarding them for breaking the law? How can they protect us when they refuse to seal our borders? We have troops in over 100 countries scattered across this world yet we do not have enough to patrol our own borders?"
