"The left-leaning Center for American Progress is pushing a 'fact' sheet on Protecting Women from Gun Violence and, unusually enough, they appear to have hardly fudged the data at all. On the other hand they really don’t provide any context to go with their raw numbers which can be misleading without any actual deceit. I recall from my high school history text that when doing some pre-war strategizing, Hitler assured Mussolini that Germany would be safe from an Allied blockade ... because they had more than 130 million tins of food stockpiled. Il Duce was reportedly quite impressed by that number, not realizing ... that meant two tins of food per person. So we’ll provide the context ourselves . . ." ...

"'At least three other times during the period studied by The Star, charges of possession by a serious violent felon were dropped against someone who later was charged with a gun-related homicide. All three of the brutal deaths occurred when the killers would have been in prison if they had been convicted on the earlier gun charges and given the advisory sentence.' And there you have it: the reason why 'gun violence' is endemic in Indianapolis, Indiana, the home of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America founder Shannon Watts. A 'stay-at-home' Mom who has nothing to say about her hometown’s failed criminal justice system. She’s too busy trying to get the Kroger supermarket chain to ban open carry. "So often in my work here at Tenth Amendment Center, I hear people referring to their rights by Amendment. Unfortunately, doing so creates a misconception of where your rights come from, and the power of government to take them."

"Some examples:" ...

"'I will never let Bloomberg and his type take away my Second Amendment Rights!'"

"... 'Second Amendment Rights' as a phrase implies that you get your rights as a grant from government, or a document."

"I’ve often written about the anti-gun, anti-liberty mindset. As experience teaches, that attitude is most prevalent among most members of the political left. By way of initial disclaimer, I’ve also written that some who hold political views that generally place them firmly left of center are also gun owners, and to lesser or greater degrees, supporters of gun ownership and the Second Amendment. ... Yet, to the statist/progressive mind, gun owners are a seemingly monolithic block, a group of people with easily definable and identifiable characteristics. Among the most obvious of these is a barely concealed compulsion to use firearms in violent ways, particularly against those who don’t think in the same ways . . ." ...

The Obama administration’s FBI report obtained its result by manipulating the data: including non-mass shootings, missing mass shooting cases, and selectively picking the period of time that they examined. Part of the abstract of the CRPC’s latest report describes what the Obama administration did:" ...

"Having grown up in Southern California, I had few opportunities to hunt game. My friends and I tried our hand at rabbit and carrier pigeon. Great on the former, poor on the latter. When I moved to Oregon at the age of 19, I took up archery and became fairly proficient at slinging arrows. When I was invited to my first archery big game hunt, I discovered something unreal. "Centerfire cartridges are great, but sometimes a little rimfire lovin’ is what you really need to get the job done. Winchester has developed a pretty kick-ass rimfire cartridge in the .17 WSM or 'Winchester Super Magnum.' It’s a higher-powered .17 caliber rimfire round with an insanely flat trajectory and a muzzle velocity equal to most 5.56 rounds. The caliber means you can pack more ammo and more power into the same space, but the only rifles set up to fire that new cartridge have been bolt action guns. Until now . . ." ...

"The national gun lobby in Washington, D.C., is a big machine, motored by a multibillion-dollar industry. The sprawling network of hardcore activists remaking the political gunscape in statehouses and the courts, on the other hand, is small. How small? It’s so small that when Jeff Knox stepped up to a microphone at the premiere gun-activist conclave and referred to 'Dad,' no explanation was needed. Everyone at the Gun Rights Policy Conference last weekend knew who 'Dad' was. Dad was Neal Knox ... 'Dad' became a godfather to the activists who gather every September at an airport hotel under the banner of the Second Amendment Foundation." ...

We only need to tell predators 'Don’t hurt others' rather than teaching women to be aware, avoid trouble when they can, and to defend themselves when they must. Some so-called feminists went further and claimed that refusing to be a victim 'enables rape culture' and so promotes sexual assault. I disagree. Preparation does not cause violence."

... "There’s no need for assault rifles to be used by hunters, and there’s no justification for them to be used for home defense. There are plenty of weapons that can be used for both activities that are manufactured and legally accessible, so there’s no need for them to be made available to the miniscule number who want to own them solely to kill large groups of people or animals."

"So let’s use some common sense, and strongly tell the gun lobby that it doesn’t speak for all gun owners. The responsible ones overwhelmingly ... believe the government has the right to perform background checks for all gun purchases ... Even many NRA members acknowledge that owning an AK-47-style rifle isn’t necessary for homeowners or hunters." ...

"Citizens of the Lone Star State are quick to tell you how wonderful their state is in every way. They may be right in many respects, but not on the on the issue of gun rights, where they remain surprisingly backward among freedom-loving states. We all know thanks to the antics of open carry groups that there is not a right to open carry a holstered handgun in Texas. Texas also remains one of the states that refuses to allow concealed carriers to carry guns in bars. "Midterm politics hung heavy in the air when the Senate last year fell five votes short of blocking a Republican-led filibuster against the bill to expand background checks for gun purchases. Two of the Democrats who voted against the Manchin-Toomey bill were up for reelection in 2014 in red states: Mark Pryor of Arkansas and Mark Begich of Alaska. Their decision to break with their party—over the pleas of parents of children killed at Sandy Hook Elementary a few months earlier—was put in yet starker relief by the fact that two other Democratic senators who were up for reelection in 2014 in challenging terrain had voted for Manchin-Toomey: Mary Landrieu of Louisiana and Kay Hagan of North Carolina." ...
