The Sri Lankan government has issued a gun confiscation directive requiring all people with firearms and a permit to possess them for self-defense to turn the firearms, ammunition, and permits they possess to the military authorities. The firearms must be surrendered by November 7, 2024. From dailynews.lk: The Ministry of Defense has decided to temporarily take back all firearms and ammunition issued to civilians for self defense. |

Gun safety group Brady says there is a simple argument why so called “ghost guns” should be subject to the same regulations as other firearms. “If it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, and acts like a duck, it’s a duck,” Brady President Kris Brown said. Ghost guns are shipped to consumers in pieces, and generally have an incomplete frame or receiver. |

The National Instant Background Check System (NICS) numbers are in for September of 2024. They are slightly higher than those for September of 2023. There have been about two percent more gun sales than in September of 2023 and about three percent more background checks. Those increases are sufficient to place 2024 as the fifth highest September in the 25 years of NICS records, starting in 1999. |

Ammo prices are down from the shortage prices a few years ago. That doesn’t mean that they’re cheap, but some ammo is definitely more affordable than others. 9mm is about as cheap as you can get in centerfire ammunition, and it might make you wish you’d picked up a 9mm AR. |
