"U.S. District Judge Terence Kern issued a permanent injunction against an Oklahoma law that would have kept employers from banning firearms at the workplace under certain conditions."
"Kern decided in a 93-page written order issued Thursday that the amendments to the Oklahoma Firearms Act and the Oklahoma Self-Defense Act, which were to go into effect in 2004, conflict with a federal law meant to protect employees at their jobs."
"Kern said the amendments 'criminally prohibit an effective method of reducing gun-related workplace injuries and cannot co-exist with federal obligations and objectives.'" "First off, I'd like to know where he pulled that conclusion out of." ... |

"A new report shows that when it comes to gun ownership, the United States is the most heavily armed society in the world. The Small Arms Survey found that there are nine guns for every ten people living in the country, with about 270 million firearms in circulation."
"As crime continues to rises, gun sales are doing the same. 'I've always owned handguns since I was old enough to shoot,' says Albany City Attorney Nathan Davis. However, he never dreamed he'd become an actual target." ... |

"Only a few hundred miles outside of Milwaukee, in a town of 2,000, a twenty year old 'off-duty' deputy sheriff, and part-time police officer, apparently went bezerk, and went on a shooting spree, at an undisclosed private house, taking the lives of at least six people. The suspect, whose name is being withheld, was himself fatally shot by 'authorities,' some of whom may have worked at the same sheriff's office. Many of the specific details of this crime are being withheld, and there is only speculation about the motive. (AP) A mother of one of the victims suggests jealousy might be behind the killler's rampage." ... |

"Wildlife officials say a female grizzly bear died after a Pennsylvania hunter defending himself and his companion shot the animal north of Yellowstone National Park."
"The Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife & Parks said it confirmed the bow hunters’ report. They said the bear charged ... stopped within 9 feet of them after bear spray was used, charged again and was shot. One of the hunters fired a pistol twice."
"It happened just like they said it did,' said Warden Capt. Sam Sheppard of the state agency. 'It's self defense. The matter is closed.'" ...
"Sheppard said that without the spray, the bear probably would have mauled one of the men. The spray is not foolproof, but 'it's still the best thing going,' he said." ... -------

"... Seems to me the in fad of socializing with flesh and bones has now become a rarity. Now, someone defends brandishing a concealed weapon because some frail, old person may not be able to 'kick and throw' very far. I got two words for ya: Jack Lalanne."
"Studies now show that if you exercise your mind and body (probably soul as well) on a regular basis, you can practically slow down the process of aging. Learning self defense has many benefits to it. At least I can say it builds confidence. Can you say this about sitting in front of a computer in a chatroom or playing video games for hours on end? It also builds old fashioned — provided it is done in a public place, not in front of a TV at home — social skills." ... |

"But Katz's district has barred teachers from bringing guns to school, so she is challenging the ban as unlawful, since Oregon is among states that allow people with a permit to carry concealed weapons into public buildings."
"'This is primarily about my Second Amendment right and Oregon law and the simple fact that I know it is my right to carry that gun,' said Katz ..."

"A machine gun. What is the practicality in owning a machine gun? The better question is: why do I need a practical reason to own a machine gun? A machine gun is dangerous, but a car is dangerous. If I collect firearms, can the government prevent me from owning one? Should the government limit what I can or cannot own? Most profoundly, the answer is no as reiterated through the Constitution and James Madison." ...
"So, do I need a machine gun? No. Do I want a machine gun? No. However, the point is, I want the possibility of owning a machine gun and to keep it that way. Government involvement in the people's lives should be strictly limited to the bare minimum in all aspects of the law." |
