... "They were not there 'to debate.' They were there to insult, to resort to the childish tactic of questioning the manhood of the open carriers, and to chastise them to 'get a life' in a song written especially to attack the gun rights advocates. In other words, these 'community leaders' were there to stir up crowd ugliness against a minority they disapprove of." ...

Safer Streets 2010: Answering TIME Magazine's Locked and Loaded

"This week's October 11, 2010 edition of TIME Magazine gets off on the wrong foot with its lede that militias are anti-government. [Locked and loaded. The secret world of extreme militias.] The piece turned in by Barton Gellman overlooks one critical component in the United States."

"Basically, gun control and anti-independence thought comes from a politic which believes that anyone other than the people are the sovereign in this country. Gun control is un-American because it challenges the sovereignty of the people by attacking the lethal force which backs our sovereignty." ...

"What can I do? I'm just one person. I don't know anything about campaigning and I don't have much money. How can I impact an election in which thousands – or millions are going to be voting?"

"I hear that a lot and the simple answer is: Pick your candidate and then do your very best to make sure that everyone you know, and everyone you meet, knows why you have picked that candidate. To further illustrate exactly how much influence one person can have I'd like to present a real-life, fictional story." ...

"Pacific Northwest gun rights activists should feel better this morning because they are not the only firearms owners plagued by boneheads working from the same gun prohibitionist playbook."

"The debate right now in Pennsylvania over expansion of the so-called 'Castle Doctrine' (a common misnomer because what they are really talking about is the principle of Standing Your Ground, which is widely recognized here in the Evergreen State and even upheld by a series of State Supreme Court rulings), and opponents have trotted out the usual arguments." ...

"And again I must ask, 'Why?'"

"And at the end, we get this:"
"In an interview, [Deputy Director Kenneth] Melson said the ATF would no longer release such figures "because these percentages have been misused, misinterpreted, for political agendas on both sides of the gun issue."

"California Welfare & Institutions Code § 8103 provides that once someone has been evaluated or taken into custody as being 'a danger to himself, herself, or to others,' he may be barred from possessing guns for five years if the government 'show[s] by a preponderance of the evidence that the person would not be likely to use firearms in a safe and lawful manner.'"

"I know this is a firearms rights column, but I am a sucker for great hunting stories."

I have been bear hunting myself for years in great bear habitat (the Ouachita mountains) and have never been able to even get a shot. "Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks officials are seeking information from the public about the illegal killing of a 6×7 bull elk on the Woody Island Coulee Block Management Area (BMA) north of the community of Turner. Turner is located about 30 miles north of Harlem on Montana Highway 241. Havre-based warden Wes Oedekoven told TTAG that the elk was shot without the land owner's permission on Oct. 2. Oops. It's bow-hunting season; rifle season doesn't start until the 23rd. The carcass was left to rot. Anyone with information about this dead elk should call Oedekoven at (406) 262-2407 or the Turn In Poachers-Montana hotline at 1-800-TIP-MONT (1-800-847-6668). ..."

The Colt Mustang clone has all the solidity and precision that's typified the Swiss-born company's products since SIGARMS set up shop stateside in 1985. That's quite a feat, given the the P238 weighs just 15.2 ounces unloaded. The gun's light enough to stash in a pocket, yet heavy enough to make it a perfectly controllable pistol." ...

Ironically, Beretta discontinued the 8000 during the same year that Desperate Housewives hit the airwaves (2004), a show that gave new prominence to the two-legged definition of the word 'Cougar.' Just as the the new meaning reinvigorated an old stereotype, the Stoeger Cougar looks set to bring the gun name back into fashion. Not high fashion. BREAKING TEABAGGER NEWS: Govmint Stoled Newborn Baby (labelled as Satire)

"Just when Teabagger parents thought they could have as many poor welfare children as they wanted, the big scary government child services came in and decided it could TAKE AWAY THEIR CHILDREN just because they are members of a Teabagger group that wants to protect the Constitution (with guns). This is all according to Jonathan Irish of New Hampshire, who is a member of 'Oath Keepers,' a militia group with a weird Constitution fetish, whose website says, 'We will NOT obey orders to disarm the American people.' The government is taking away this Teabagger spawn because it wants to MURDER the Constitution and and will hurt ANY brave citizen standing up to protect it. These people are truly great Americans." ...
-------

Submitter's Note: Although "Wonkette" identifies this as satire, it is an actual occurrence, and association with the OathKeepers was cited as one (of several) reasons for DFCS to take the child. Think about that for a minute: the left finds it risible that political affiliations are considered legitimate grounds for the State to remove children from their parents.
Oh, and in addition to refusing orders to disarm American citizens, OathKeepers have nine other orders they will not obey, including #10 "We will NOT obey any orders which infringe on the right of the people to free speech, to peaceably assemble, and to petition their government for a redress of grievances." So DFCS took his child for belonging to an organization which supports freedom of speech and association.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
A state may not impose a charge for the enjoyment of a right granted by the federal constitution... The power to impose a license tax on the exercise of these freedoms is indeed as potent as the power of censorship which this Court has repeatedly struck down... a person cannot be compelled 'to purchase, through a license fee or a license tax, the privilege freely granted by the constitution.' —MURDOCK V.
