In District of Columbia v. Heller (2008), the Supreme Court indicated that a limited number of gun control restrictions are permissible under the Second Amendment -- provisions such as "prohibitions on the possession of firearms by felons and the mentally ill, or laws forbidding the carrying of firearms in sensitive places such as schools and government buildings, or laws imposing conditions and qualifications on the commercial sale of arms." |

Peruta v. San Diego is one of several cases challenging sheriff misapplication of California’s concealed handgun carry licensing statute. The case features Chuck Michel as lead attorney for plaintiffs. The case does not assert that California’s statute requiring a license to carry a concealed handgun for protection is unconstitutional. Rather, the argument is simply that the statute specifies that licenses should be issued to qualified applicants (training, good moral character) who have “good cause.” Pursuant to Heller, lawful self-defense is not only good cause, it is the best possible cause. The case has already survived a motion to dismiss. |

"Bloomberg's gotta love this guy."
"The good thing about freedom, Mr. Elfaki, is you have the right to do as you please here. No one is intent on forcing a gun on you—except, of course, those people who want what is yours."
Submitter's note: Sunday's Gun Rights Examiner column points Big Apple predators to a story that tells them where they can go to get not only a great deli meal, but also a willing bared throat.
