So, there I was at the end of June this year, still on a trip that had lasted since the final week in May. Throughout I had been carrying one or another full-size all-steel 1911 “government model 1911 .45 automatic.” This trip included a 60-hour MAG-180 course (http://massadayoobgroup.com), which I had spent teaching primarily hand-to-hand fighting, while my colleague David Maglio ran the high-speed shooting stuff on the range. |

The Glock name has been around for decades and odds are good, you know more than a few people who own one or more of the Austrian gun maker’s firearms. Glocks are popular for a lot of reasons, including the fact that they’re relatively affordably priced, durable, and reliable. Even many of the naysayers who once complained about the weight and thickness of the classic double-stacks have changed their minds now that there are Slimline models offered. So if you’re in the market for a Glock, you might be wondering which model to go with.

If you’re a fan of the classic look and feel of the Taurus 92 pistol, but wished you could carry it then you’re in luck! Long ago Taurus introduced the Original 917C pistol which combined the shootablity of the Tuaurs 92 with a more compact slide and barrel to make it more suitable for concealed carry duty. Sadly the Taurus 917C disappeared from the market as the wave of striker-fired compact pistols made their way onto the scene. Today Taurus is excited to announce that they’ve brought the 917C back and from the looks of it, it’s here to stay this time.

In a recent escalation of the ongoing debate on gun control, New Jersey finds itself at the heart of a legal battle. This critical standoff, pitting public safety concerns against the Second Amendment rights of citizens, was front and center at the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia. The court’s response to New Jersey’s restrictive gun law could have far-reaching implications, not just for the state, but potentially setting a precedent for the nation.

A provocative report in Reason about the Maine mass shooting offers a strong argument that it wasn’t the state’s alleged “weak gun laws” which allowed the now-deceased killer to commit mayhem at two separate locations one week ago, but what might be called a failure of the system to respond to warning signs months ago.

Sen. Angus King (I-ME) is working on “assault rifle” gun control this week after a suspect with a sniper rifle shot and killed 18 people in Lewiston, Maine.
The Portland Press Herald noted that King is not ready to reveal details about his gun control bill,
The Herald indicated King’s intention is to “ban the most dangerous and lethal aspects of military-style assault rifles.” King provided a clue into what these “aspects” of certain firearms might be when he spoke to KTLA and said, “I want to do what’ll work and to me, the most clear danger are these high capacity magazines." |

Professor Robert Leider and I have a new article on the right to keep and bear arms available on SSRN. It is called The General Law Right to Bear Arms and it is part of a symposium in the Notre Dame Law Review. In brief, we argue that the Supreme Court's decision in NYSRPA v. Bruen has been misunderstood and therefore unfairly maligned. From the introduction.

The lethality of the 5.56 NATO/223 Remington rifle cartridge has been a topic of heated debate since its adoption by the US military during the Vietnam War. When fired from a 20 inch barrel, the terminal performance of the 5.56 is quite impressive, however problems arise when a shorter barrel length is used.

What does Cody Wilson—the founder of Defense Distributed, the company responsible for the world's first 3D-printed gun—really want? And how close is he to achieving it? That's the subject of filmmaker Jessica Solce's new feature documentary Death Athletic: A Dissident Architecture. Solce followed Wilson for seven years as he grew the world's most famous DIY gun company, prevented multiple lawsuits from shutting it down, faced his own personal legal troubles around a sex case, and established himself as the leading voice and practitioner of crypto-anarchism. |
