"Gun locks have their own problems. Most importantly, the increased time it takes to get the gun ready to deter a criminal. Locked guns are not as readily accessible for defensive gun uses. If criminals are deterred from attacking victims because they fear people might defend themselves, gun locks may therefore increase crime. Exacerbating this problem, many mechanical locks (such as barrel or trigger locks) also require that the gun be stored unloaded. Loading a gun obviously requires yet more time to respond to a criminal."

"Guns clearly deter criminals, with Americans using guns defensively over 2 million times each year -- 4.5 times more frequently than the 500,000 times guns were used to commit crimes in 2001. Over 90 percent of the time simply brandishing the weapon stops an attack. Even though the police are extremely important at reducing crime, they simply can't be there all the time and virtually always end up at the crime scene after the crime has been committed."

"David Bach is a warrior. A former Navy SEAL, a Naval Reserve officer and a naval attorney with top-secret clearance, Bach stands at the front lines of the War on Terror. Yet, on Sept. 25, a federal judge forbade him to carry a gun in New York state."

"The ruling is part of a growing trend. More and more federal judges today contend that Americans have no ...constitutional right to keep and bear arms."

"How did this happen? Simple. Left-wing historians and law professors have been rewriting American history and reinterpreting the Constitution for years. Now their work is bearing fruit. Anti-gun judges parrot the lies their professors told them. With each stroke of their gavels, they infuse those lies with the force of law."

"IT never was easy for hunters to travel by air, and since 9/11 it's become a real chore. But if you are traveling with firearms, following a few simple rules will make it much easier."

"Call your carrier in advance. Let them know you are traveling with a firearm and find out if they have any special regulations."

"All airlines require that you transport your firearms in a hard case that locks."

"While most people who fly will get to the airport 1-2 hours before their flight leaves, hunters should give themselves more time because they will have to fill out forms."

"As soon as you get out of the car, tell the first airline rep you see that you are traveling with firearms. Don't surprise anyone."

"The Winchester Model 1894 rifle is sometimes called the gun that won the West."

"A Colorado gun maker has released a limited run of the historic firearm that highlights Dinwiddie's past, from stock to barrel."

"Investment Arms Inc. has intricately crafted each .45-caliber rifle with about 17 scenes of Dinwiddie history. All woodwork is laser carved and the gun's metal was detailed in a 40-step process with nickel, silver plate and a 24-karat gold overlay."

"Eleven of the Dinwiddie rifles were produced, including one proof and 10 special-edition firearms."

"Each gun took about 130 hours to craft and costs $3,400, said Investment Arms official Jim Combs."

"Sammy Burks Jr. is dead today because two adults treated their loaded handgun without care or thought."

"The gun, indeed, is an inanimate object. Yet when you leave one out for a child to find, it can become horribly animated."

-------
Here is where Mr. Johnson becomes all confused and downtrodden, because he's oh-so-misunderstood by gun owners when he advocates rendering your tool of self defense useless "for the children." He attempts to make himself sound more rational by claiming he's pro-safety, not anti-gun, ignoring or conveniently forgetting his moronic advice that keeping a loaded weapon at home is a "dangerous, stupid thing."

"I wrote the story to illustrate the danger, the outright foolishness, of any parent whose guns aren't locked up," Mr. Johnson claims. Anyone who read his last column can see right through that lie.

And, of course, he falls back on the old "I'm a gun owner" claim, as if this is a shield against his utter stupidity when it comes to actual gun safety.

"POLICE are developing a mobile scanner that can detect weapons being carried on the streets as part of the fight against the rising tide of gun crime."

"The scanner, which is being developed by scientists on behalf of Scotland Yard, will be able to pick out the outline of knives, guns and other weapons hidden underneath clothing, enabling officers to target criminals before they strike."

-------
It will also punish those "horrid criminals," who, unable to rely on police for protection, take a chance on being accountable for their own safety.

"The surveillance video of the Stratford High School drug raid broadcast on televisions across the country shows a small clip of the 30-minute sweep from one camera among the more than 70 at the school."

"One angle shows officers coming down the main hallway at 6:45 a.m., several with guns aimed downward. Most of the students are standing along the sides. Several cower after spotting the officers, hiding behind each other."

"Within 30 seconds, all the students are sitting or lying against the wall on one side or against the trophy case on the other, with their backpacks in the center. The camera angle does not show all 107 students who happened to be in the hall."

"Other officers come in from the bottom of the screen. The video shows an officer pick out a sitting student, throw him to the side and pin him down. He is one of the students searched later."

"The last time that the people of Macedonia were offered a weapons amnesty, one man turned up in an armoured personnel carrier that he had made off with during the 2001 conflict between ethnic Albanians and Macedonians."

"This time around, the citizens have proved more reluctant to hand over their hardware. "In the two months that Villarreal and her son have taken tae kwon do together, the pair have seen their confidence levels increase, she said. When a strange man recently followed them through a grocery store parking lot, Villarreal readied herself to backhand the man if he approached her — a move she wouldn’t have known without her martial arts training." -- A move she wouldn't need unless her attacker was already dangerously close - something that wouldn't happen if she were armed.

"Most of the violent crimes involved a lone, weaponless attacker. While 56 percent of men were assaulted by strangers, just 24 percent of females were attacked by strangers. Women were most commonly victimized by someone they knew, usually an intimate partner (husband, ex-husband, boyfriend or ex-boyfriend). Women were most likely to suffer minor or severe injuries at the hands of an intimate partner than anyone else." -- If most of the attackers were unarmed, a pistol would give a woman a distinct advantage - an advantage she likely wouldn't have against a much bigger, stronger male assailant.

"Fewer cops on the streets of Minneapolis means less service and in some cases, no police service by at all."

"Minneapolis has lost some 160 police officers [20%] over the past seven years and officers say cuts are putting a strain on the police force and leaving some crimes unsolved."

"Kupchella looked at the police response to priority-one calls this year. Calls for things like rape and murder and burglar alarms. One of every ten of these calls — 4,895 of them — were on hold ten to 20 minutes. There's another 4,987 calls the city doesn't even count because officers sometimes fail to enter their arrival times on their squad-car computers."

"Average Joe should be able to look up and read for himself where in the law it says, that if he earns $45,000, Uncle Sam is taking a chunk of it. After all, if average Joe doesn't give up what the law says he owes, Uncle Sam has the authority to point a gun at him and lock him up."

"Follow me for a second. If what most Americans believe about the federal income tax were true, Congress could write and pass a law tomorrow that could take 50%, 80%, even 100% of what Americans earn. If Americans didn't pay up, Congress could authorize government agents to point guns at us and lock us up. That, my friends, IS the textbook definition of slavery. As everyone already knows, our federal government does not have that authority."

"Getting caught with an unregistered gun can get you busted in New York City - and so can possession of a new form of contraband."

"Brooklyn video store owner Marty Arno learned that lesson the hard way - he's facing a whopping $6,000 in fines after two of Mayor Bloomberg's anti-smoking goon squad storm troopers caught him harboring one of these deadly items."

"Today's New York Post reveals that city inspectors M. Dundas and S. Holloway gave Arno, owner of Brooklyn Heights Video, a ticket last month charging that they had uncovered not explosives, not guns, not knives, but 'One (1) ashtray with cigarette butt, and ashes,' which was 'seen on the counter of the establishment.' "

"For this criminal offense Arno faces a hefty $2,000 fine plus two other similar fines because the -inspectors discovered he did not have 'No Smoking' signs and had not put up a sign displaying his store's official nonsmoking policy."
