A record number of Americans have exercised one of the most important rights affirmed by the founders of this great nation: the right to keep and bear arms. The FBI NICS office conducted 3,305,465 background checks last month – breaking the record for the month of October by nearly a million checks. Each month in 2020 has broken the record for background checks in that month. October was the fifth busiest month ever for the NICS office, which has now run 32,131,914 NICS checks in 2020. We – the American people - broke the annual record last month; this year has now seen 13% more checks than the previous busiest year for the NICS office.

Northeast Michigan gun shops are taking a hit from an nationwide ammunition shortage.
Local gun shop owners say that, although the ammunition shortage started months ago, they have fewer rounds on their shelves and have not been able to replace stock recently.
Fast Cash and Guns owner David Karschnick Jr. said the shortage started during the coronavirus pandemic as the supply chain was interrupted when states shut down and manufacturers weren’t producing ammunition. Additionally, Karschnick said the raw materials used to make ammunition are not as readily available.
Karschnick said that, when people began hoarding toilet paper in the spring, he placed an order for ammunition, which was still available at that time.

The year 2020 saw record gun sales thanks to the coronavirus and fears of Democrat gun-control policies. In the run up to the general election, a surge began as polls suggested Democratic nominee Joe Biden would easily win the election over President Donald Trump. It is still unclear who actually won the election. Media outlets have called it for Biden, but Trump has pursued numerous legal actions to contest the results in several states. Still, gun purchases continue to soar, with gun-shop owners telling media outlets they can’t keep their shelves stocked.

There is just under a week before the start of the firearm deer season, and hunters have waited months for this time of year to come.
When looking at the license sales, it shows.
Chad Stewart, deer, elk, and moose program leader for the Department of Natural Resources, said on Nov. 1 he received a new report that showed the number of deer license buyers was up about 14% when compared to Nov. 1 last year. While that number is down from where it was at the end of August, roughly 25%, it is still a nice bump. Stewart said once the firearm season starts, the expectation is that it will level off at 12% when compared to the previous year. |

Almost simultaneous to Joe Biden’s post-election speech in which he declared it is time for the nation to come together, his followers were exhibiting the sort of vile revenge mentality typically expected in Third World nations where political opponents are “disappeared.”
As reported by The Hill, Biden said, “With the campaign over, it’s time to put the anger and the harsh rhetoric behind us and come together as a nation. It’s time for America to unite. And to heal.” |

A lawsuit challenging the federal ban on the sale of handguns and handgun ammunition to adults under 21 years of age was filed in federal court last week. The plaintiffs are two Louisiana men, Caleb Reese and Joseph Granich, who are adults and legally able to buy rifles and shotguns but want to legally purchase handguns, which are prohibited to them under federal law as they are not yet 21 years old. |

A man in Las Vegas, Nev., was forced to shoot his roommate in self-defense when the latter attacked him with a knife early on the morning of Nov. 6, 2020. The fight occurred sometime after midnight that Friday morning when the roommate, who was staying at the condo with the man and his fiancée, had a fit of rage while high on drugs. The roommate was said to be acting delusional and, at some point, grabbed a knife. The man grabbed a shotgun for defense as the roommate attacked him with the knife.

Recently, I was fortunate to acquire a SIG Sauer P365XL. While the slightly smaller P365 has been out since 2018, the P365XL has been available for just over a year now. Always testing and refining my concealed carry gun options, I wanted to give my new acquisition a tryout. I must admit that I like the 12 round magazine capacity (15 round magazine optional) this little handgun offers and the fact that this SIG comes standard with night sights and features an optics-ready slide that will accept the SIG Sauer Romeo Zero or the Shield RMSc.

Until December 2019 the only options for a rimfire “Glock” were either a conversion unit that mates a rimfire slide and barrel assembly to a stock Glock center-fire frame or one of the .22 pistols on the market from other manufacturers with a vaguely similar profile. But that all changed with Glock’s introduction of the .22 Long Rifle G44. |

Some people in Sumter County want more transparency from the 2020 elections. They showed their frustration during a peaceful protest this past weekend and are gearing up for another one in Americus on Sunday. They called the rally a celebration of the Second Amendment and a peaceful protest against the lack of transparency in the 2020 election and ballot counting. |

In the 2020 general election in Montana, the referendum on firearms preemption, LR-130, passed with 51% of the vote, 296,820 to 285,942. It was close. Montana went for President Trump with 57% of the vote. On LR-130, Bloomberg and surrogates outspent Second Amendment supporters $1,409,439.11 to $50,493.06, or 28 to 1.

Misha Yakovleff, a nurse at the White River Junction VA Medical Center, had been hearing from veteran patients at the hospital about how difficult it is to purchase firearms and ammo these days because stores everywhere are out of stock. Out of curiosity, Yakovleff recently stopped by Sporting & Hunting Depot in Charlestown where he lives to check things out for himself. He was surprised by what he saw — or, rather, didn’t see. |

Justin Carbone of Federal Premium, a competitive precision rimfire shooter, was showing a group of us how capable .22 LRs are, ringing steel the size of a soda can out to 300 yards and beyond at a longrange rifle clinic in Utah. For a few of us sitting at the rifle bench behind Savage bolt guns, it became addicting. Why? Because you could physically see the little bullet hit the target through the scope. The 1873 Winchester may be “The gun that won the West” but the Model 1892 is the Western levergun that won America’s heart. Yes, the ’73 came first, as did the buffalo-caliber 1886. True, its younger brother, the .30/30 model of 1894 has taken many a young man’s first deer and even has its own Mariachi song (look it up), but the lever-action 1892 is the uncredited hero in most of the Western movies we know. This makes it the levergun living in all of our memories — it was a ’92 Rooster Cogburn used to invite Ned Pepper to fill his hand, and anachronistically, introduced each episode of The Rifleman. It was, indeed, a ’92 that shot Liberty Valance.

Introduced as the first American metallic cartridge ever produced in 1857, the .22 Short was an entirely self-contained cartridge that was moisture resistant and more quickly reloaded than other firearms of the era. It was a rimfire cartridge, meaning that the priming compound was applied inside the rim of the cartridge, which ignited the powder charge held in the case. |

On Nov. 10, 1775-- more than seven months before the Declaration of Independence was signed-- the Continental Congress in Philadelphia resolved to form two battalions of Marines. The first officer, commissioned in an order signed by John Hancock, was Quaker innkeeper Samuel Nichols who then proceeded to begin a recruitment drive at Philadelphia's Tun Tavern, a local brewery, and the Corps soon became a reality. |
