The first deer Shannon Winks harvested was a four-point buck when she shot her arrow 25 yards as accurately as William Tell. “I was ecstatic,” said Winks, 48, who was left out of family hunting trips growing up because she was a girl. “It was a very strong adrenaline rush.” |

Madison County’s top prosecutor filed a brief Monday urging the Illinois Supreme Court to find the state’s FOID law unconstitutional, a decision one gun control advocate said would be “short-sighted.” Illinoisans must have a Firearm Owners Identification card to legally own guns, but Madison County State’s Attorney Tom Haine, a first-term Republican, said the law violates the Second Amendment and should be struck down.

Volume of firearm purchases in October that resulted in an FBI NICs background check was the second highest for the 31-day reporting period on record, lagging only behind the scalding pace in 2020 when the pandemic and social unrest drove transfers to all-time highs. Total unit sales for last month, according to Small Arms Analytics & Forecasting (SAAF) estimates, was roughly 1.53 million, which is 31.8 percent higher than the same period in 2019, but 20.1 percent less than the previous year.

Soon after the Columbine High School shooting in 1999, senior leaders of the National Rifle Association huddled on a conference call to consider canceling their annual convention, scheduled just days later and a few miles away. Thirteen people lay dead at a high school in Colorado. More than 20 were injured. Images of students running from the school were looped on TV. The NRA strategists on the call sounded shaken and panicked as they pondered their next step into what would become an era of routine and horrific mass school shootings.

Two gun-related bills from Republicans expected to be voted on in the state Senate this week would expand concealed carry rights and allow anyone to sue Pennsylvania municipalities that enact firearm ordinances that are stricter than state law. Gun-control groups warned the changes would pose a “deadly risk” to Pennsylvanians amid escalating gun violence. And Gov. Tom Wolf has said he would veto the measures. if the bills pass the Senate and then the House. |

Shooting is a ton of fun, but it’s also inherently dirty. There’s powder residue, carbon fouling, copper and lead buildup, and more. Whether it’s your granddad’s single-shot shotgun that you’re going to pass down to your own kids or a brand new long-range shooting rifle that you spent far more on than you care to admit, the goal is to keep them both running smoothly for decades to come. In order to do this, you’ve got to keep your guns clean. Regardless of what it cost or how old it is, the best way to do this is to use the best gun oil.

The creation of a research institute to study gun violence in New York was signed into law Monday by Gov. Kathy Hochul, who also approved a companion bill that would provide funds through a voluntary check-off box on a state income tax form. Approval of the bill comes as policymakers and elected officials have acknowledged the rise in shootings across the country and in New York state cities over the last year.

Ruger has offered pistol-caliber carbines over the last 60 years chambered in .44 Magnum, including two semi-automatics, the Deerstalker and Deerfield, as well as a lever-action and bolt-action chambered for the .44 Magnum. Despite my love for sixguns, I am able to find room for these excellent rifles in my shooting heart.

Duck hunting is an expensive pursuit. Just finding a place to hunt can be costly if you don’t have access to good hunting on public land. You also need all kinds of gear—a truck, boat, trailer, decoys, etc.—to effectively hunt waterfowl. It’s a big investment. And the last place you want to skimp on is your shotgun. Because without a reliable firearm, there’s not much sense in heading to the blind. That’s why the Winchester SX4 is such a great choice. It’s an ultra-reliable, gas-driven semi-auto for less than $900. |

A Colorado police officer who fatally shot a bystander hailed as a hero for stopping a gunman armed with a rifle will not be charged, prosecutors said Monday.

Submitter's note: there's no evidence John Hurley did ANYTHING while holding that rifle to warrant being murdered. The officer merely saw someone with a rifle and executed him. Did not accurately assess. |

The 5.56mm NATO round has been the gold standard AR-15 cartridge for well over 60 years. It has been the ammo issued to our frontline soldiers for over a generation and has seen combat on 5 continents in the hands of the U.S. Military and our NATO allies.
However, some shooters wanted more out of their AR platform, they wanted the ability to shoot a 30-caliber bullet without switching over to the AR-10 and 308 Winchester. |

Gun control activist and Moms Demand Action founder Shannon Watts is criticizing a Cincinnati charter school’s efforts to teach students “gun safety.”
WLWT reports that DAMPE Community School principal Tonjarene Bronston pointed to the violence ravaging many of the neighborhoods in which her students live, noting, “Grief can turn into anger, and when you’re angry, you just go out without thinking, and you go to your friend and get a gun or go to the streets and get a gun, and [think] ‘now I’m just angry, so I’m going to do something to somebody.'” |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
You are bound to meet misfortune if you are unarmed because, among other reasons, people despise you....There is simply no comparison between a man who is armed and one who is not. It is unreasonable to expect that an armed man should obey one who is unarmed, or that an unarmed man should remain safe and secure when his servants are armed. In the latter case, there will be suspicion on the one hand and contempt on the other, making cooperation impossible. — Niccolo Machiavelli in "The Prince." |
