Reports that anti-gun-rights billionaire and former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg may leap into the 2020 Democrat presidential campaign has Second Amendment activists alarmed, and for good reason.
Bloomberg, estimated to be worth more than $50 billion, has “weaponized his wealth,” according to many activists who attended the September Gun Rights Policy Conference in Phoenix. |

Barely a week after the general election, William Johnson and Jake Vaughn started spreading a message they believe will be crucial in the 2020 presidential election. The pair staged a Second Amendment Walk downtown, starting at Dickmann Plaza, to educate the public on gun rights. “We’re just out exercising our Second Amendment rights — and our First Amendment right,” said Johnson, who carried a 9-mm revolver. “Those people out here making new laws, you’re not hurting criminals. You’re hurting us. Legal gun owners are not the ones out here causing the problems.” |

So called gun buybacks fall into two categories. (you can not buy back something you never owned) One category utilized by various Cities in the past is “gun buybacks” as voluntary programs that antigun politicians draw out of the closet every now and again merely as a political stunt. These buybacks are directed, of course, not to the psychopathic killer, common criminal, or to those few individuals who suffer from psychoses that truly represent a danger both to themselves and others. |

November 9 marks the 81st anniversary of the first day of Kristallnacht, also known as the "night of broken glass." For nearly a week, the Nazi Sturmabteilung paramilitary forces carried out a pogrom against Jewish-owned businesses, synagogues and properties across Germany and related territories; 267 synagogues and 7,000 businesses were damaged or destroyed, and 30,000 Jewish men were incarcerated in concentration camps.

The air is filled with the whine of turning metal being cut on a lathe or milling machine, mixed with the scent of oil. For some of the men in the room, it’s the first step to a career. For others, it’s an opportunity for change. And, for at least one of them, the new gunsmithing class at the Eastern Wyoming College campus, it’s a chance to expand his skill set and fulfill a creative need. |

A letter arrived this week from the Illinois Natural History Survey. I was randomly selected to be in a study of the economic impact of deer hunting in Illinois. I been asked a couple times over the years to participate in other surveys, but, if memory serves me, they were all related to harvest of birds or game. |

As the federal government infringes further and further into the natural right of all men to keep and bear arms, there is one state senator offering a bill that would bar Washington, D.C., from taking the weapons away from men and women in his state. Oklahoma State Senator Nathan Dahm (shown) has prefiled Senate Bill 1081, legislation that would prevent enforcement of one of the most pernicious federal attacks on the right of all civilians to protect themselves and their property by force of arms — the so-called red flag laws.

The Montana Supreme Court voted unanimously Oct. 22 to reverse a district judge’s decision to uphold extreme gun-control measures in Missoula, Mont. The Missoula City Council passed an ordinance in 2016 that criminalized virtually all private firearms transfers in the city by requiring a background check for the sale or transfer of every firearm, including purchases at gun shows. The law provided few exceptions, such as transfers involving immediate family members, antique firearms, members of law enforcement and temporary transfers “necessary to prevent imminent death or great bodily harm.”

Joe Olson was once such a passionate supporter of the National Rifle Association that he pledged to bequeath several million dollars from his estate to the gun organization upon his death. But the steady drip of investigations and misspending allegations and a shakeup at the top ranks of the NRA compelled him to alter his will. The NRA will no longer get his money. “The rot had gotten worse and I simply decided: No, I’m not giving those people my money,” Olson said.

In the aftermath of a recent Florida self-defense shooting, female gun owners argued that the AR-15 provides specific advantages to women for home defense, vehemently rejecting the views of gun-control activists who insist the firearm is unnecessary. Speaking with the Washington Free Beacon on Friday, five female firearm owners and advocates said the AR-15 platform offers several features that are ideal for women specifically. Robyn M. Sandoval, executive director of A Girl & A Gun Women's Shooting League, said the rifle is both more effective and safer for female shooters.

The soft point boat tail (SP-BT) is a relatively popular, “no-frills” style bullet primarily used in rifle ammunition for long-range shooting. Many F-Class competitive shooters still use this style of bullet, as it is a proven performer. With the variety of match-grade ammo on the market, there is likely a load that will perform admirably in your rifle. |

During a Concord, New Hampshire, campaign stop Democrat presidential hopeful Joe Biden criticized the ownership of magazines that hold “100 clips.” Ironically, leftists often refer to ammunition feeding devices as “clips” instead of magazines, but Biden used the word “clips” in place of bullets. He realized his mistake and corrected himself. |

Just because something lacks the greatest practical purpose doesn’t mean it’s worthless and doesn’t mean a person shouldn’t be able to have it. Practicality, as David Petzal wrote, isn’t everything when it comes to guns. Obviously, guns have legitimate purposes such as sport, sustenance (hunting) and self-defense. Duh. And we, as Americans, have a right to own them, as vouchsafed for us by the Second Amendment of the Constitution. Duh. |

It is without a doubt that our country will elect a Democrat President sometime in the future. Folks, the Democrats are good at promising cheap trinkets to the lazy and they are great at frightening people into making decisions against their own interests. We know for sure that the Democrats will eventually get back into the White House.

If things get hairy around my place, I’m leaving the .223-caliber coyote killer in the closet and reaching for my shotgun loaded with a double handful of double-aught buck. But, just because a shotgun shoots a spread of pellets doesn’t mean it’s ideal for defensive use. It’s got to hold plenty of shells, be easy to reload, be supremely reliable, point and handle well and its design has to mitigate recoil so it doesn’t kill me each time I drop the hammer on a magnum load. What follows are my top choices (and a runner up) for defensive shotguns in six categories. Just know that these are my picks, laced with opinion, and yours may differ.

The Minnesota gun deer season will begin Saturday with new rules for hunters in Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) Management Zones. Hunters in a management zone cannot take a deer out of that zone without quartering it to leave behind the head with brain material and spinal column, according to Jaime Edwards, manager of the Whitewater Management Area with the Minnesota DNR. The quartered parts of the deer can be taken out. Edwards added hunters can take the deer to a processor and take the meat from the zone after processed. |

A key component to the scheme were the five 911 operators and an active police officer, Yanaris Deleon, who provided victims’ confidential contact information to the scheme’s ringleaders, prosecutors said. Four of the five 911 operators were active employees; one had previously resigned, police said.
As recently as June, Deleon texted Rose on encrypted messaging app WhatsApp and provided a list of “nearly two dozen names and telephone numbers” of accident victims, court documents said. |
