"While the National Rifle Association is, perhaps, the most well-known anti-gun control organization, there are other similar groups across the United States aiming to protect the longstanding Second Amendment rights that have been offered to Americans." ...
"The NRA, with roots going back to 1871, boasts 4.3 million members. ..."
"Gun Owners of America boasts 300,000 members and has been in existence since 1975 as an outgrowth of a handgun debate that was raging at the time. By contrast to most anti-gun control groups, the Second Amendment Foundation has been less visible and has worked behind the scenes in maintaining the gun ownership rights that have been in place. SAF has 650,000 active members." ... |

"Yesterday’s release by the FBI of the 2013 Uniform Crime Report showing fewer homicides involving firearms than in 2012 came too late to have any impact on the outcome of the election last week, but passage of Initiative 594, the 18-page gun control measure funded by billionaires and Seattle-area elitists is having one significant impact: spiking gun sales."
"According to KREM in Spokane, gun sales in that city have been soaring since passage of the initiative last Tuesday. Alan Gottlieb, chairman of the Bellevue-based Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, told Examiner that 'it’s always like this after some kind of gun control law is passed.'" ... |

"'The export of some firearms has been temporarily suspended by the German federal government,' the National Shooting Sports Foundation reported in yesterday's email blast. TTAG has learned that SIG SAUER is the sole German manufacturer concerned (thank you, Green Party). The kerfuffle surrounds exports to Colombia, another South American country where 'seepage' of legally exported guns to cartels is an ongoing problem. SIGs not the first German gunmaker to run into this 'straw purchaser' issue . . ." ... |

"Yesterday, MSNBC published a story suggesting that anti-gun billionaire Michael Bloomberg “has found his niche,” and it happened to be using his vast wealth to influence political contests during the mid-term elections, leading some to wonder if this newfound niche is assuming the mantle of 'Big Brother.'"
"That's the not-so-benevolent dictator in George Orwell's '1984.' He knows what's better for people than they do. Of course, Orwell's book was a disturbing fiction. Bloomberg, with his billions, is something of an unsettling reality to a lot of people who don't care for the ex-New York mayor's brand of political demagoguery." ... |

"A coalition of police, clergy and elected officials is calling on gun manufacturers to get 'smart.'"
"The effort, called Don't Stand Idly By, launched Monday with 60 leaders across the nation approaching gun-makers about tightening distribution systems and adopting 'smart technologies' to make the weapons safer."
"Technology that could reduce gun violence includes palm-print readers that would only allow the weapon to be fired by its registered owner, Bridgeport, Conn., Mayor Bill Finch said. That technology exists but is not yet in wide use in the United States." ... |

"A state law passed last month and signed by Gov. Corbett has caught the eye of Hatfield Township, and could cause that township to remove a local ordinance regarding gun sales."
"Specifically, Hatfield’s 2009 ordinance regarding the reporting of stolen firearms could now be vulnerable to a challenge under the state’s Act 192 signed into law last week - thus solicitor Christen Pionzio’s recommendation to remove the local code as soon as possible." ... -------
Submitter's Note: Actually that ordinance has been unlawful since the day it passed. The "new" state law they are talking about just puts teeth into PA's pre-emption law which was passed over forty years ago! |

"Being a current resident of Washington I can tell you how devastating this law will be. Basically, the law makes handing another person your firearm illegal, except in specific circumstances. [Submitter's Note: See above] Because the law is under affirmative defense, if the prosecutor claims you have broken the law, it is up to the defendant to prove their innocence, not the prosecutor to prove guilt. All the prosecutor has to prove is that you handed someone else your gun, which is quite easy to do even if you did it legally. Then you have to pay for the legal fees and everything else incurred during a trial . . ." ... |

"National Rifle Association officials and other lobbyists for the gun industry are fond of crying foul of their Second Amendment Rights whenever the least suggestion is made of any kind of gun control."
"Their deep pockets have enabled them to ensure that even common-sense gun laws ... are not enacted." ...
"One of the most outrageous examples of this occurred recently in Harrisburg when state legislators passed Act 192, special standing/preemption legislation that allows the NRA and other gun advocates to sue Pennsylvania cities that enact their own gun control ordinances. It also carries the threat of saddling the municipalities with the gun advocates’ legal costs." ... |

"Missouri just passed an open carry law banning any city or other municipal entity in the state from ever approving a statute which would ban such an expression of Second Amendment rights. Amendment 5 ensured that all Missouri gun laws as 'unalienable.' The law was inspired, at least in part, by the city of Webster Groves passing a law banning open carry in September."
"Amendment 5 passed with 60 percent of the vote during the primary election in August. The overturn of the open carry ban in Webster Groves occurred in late October, after the new state law was enacted. 'We have no choice in the matter. We must comply with the state law and all of us as municipalities are facing this,' Mayor Gerri Welch said." ... |

"The News 4 Tucson Investigators have uncovered that some U.S. Border Patrol agents have lost a key part of their arsenal. And that has agents who patrol along the border here, extremely worried."
"We learned that U.S. [CBP]'s Offices of Border Patrol and Training and Development are inspecting the quality of agents' M4 carbines throughout Border Patrol sectors nationwide. But agents tell us, some of those M4s have not been replaced. And, we've learned, agents are required to share rifles amongst each other." ...

"Voter approval of universal background checks for gun transfers on Nov. 4 appeared to spur a bit more buying of firearms at gun shows over the weekend, according to gun show operators opposed to Initiative 594’s provisions."
"The evidence is anecdotal, but Phil Shave, executive director of Washington Arms Collectors, said he thinks any increase in buying was spurred by an avoidance of background check fees. That is what he heard from members at a show the group sponsored at Monroe last weekend, which drew an estimated 2,000 people." ... |

"Does anyone believe that the school shootings are the result of guns, and if more gun laws are passed it solves the problem or that the shooters know that the school personnel are not carrying guns and thus they can get their targets without any interference? In addition, anyone that hears any plans of a shooting, notify the authorities before it happens and not after it happens."
"The anti-Second Amendment people seem to believe if laws are passed to strip gun ownership, then no shootings would happen. ..." ... |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
To trust arms in the hands of the people at large has, in Europe, been believed...to be an experiment fraught only with danger. Here by a long trial it has been proved to be perfectly harmless...If the government be equitable; if it be reasonable in its exactions; if proper attention be paid to the education of children in knowledge and religion, few men will be disposed to use arms, unless for their amusement, and for the defence of themselves and their country. — Timothy Dwight, Travels in New England and New York [London 1823] |
