On Friday Donald Trump posted an expanded version of his position on the Second Amendment, including his position on concealed carry permits. Earlier his vision statement “Constitution and Second Amendment” said simply that he would “defend the rights of law-abiding gun owners [including the] national right to carry [which] should be legal in all 50 states.” His expanded vision statement added this... |

While Donald Trump was winning the day nationally on November 8, voters in Kansas and Indiana were enshrining that hunting and fishing are constitutional rights. The Wichita Eagle reports that an overwhelming majority of voters supported amending the Kansas constitution to include a right to hunt and fish. The push to do so arose after lawmakers watched anti-hunting activists in other states use lawsuits to diminish hunting or do away with certain hunts altogether. |

Michigan State Police are investigating how a school resource officer at Bay City Western High School Friday, Nov. 11, fired his gun inside the school building.
Police were dispatched at about 12:30 p.m. Friday to the Bay County high school, 500 W. Midland Road, said Sgt. Jim Lang, with the Michigan State Police.
The officer, who is contracted through the Bay County Sheriff's Office, was in a room by himself when his firearm was discharged. Lang said the deputy "unintentionally" fired his weapon. No one was injured in the incident.
Lang declined to comment any further on why the gun would have been discharged until the investigation wraps up. |

Some upper-income Texans are headed down below, not Australia, but below the surface.
An investor group is planning for a doomsday scenario by building a $300 million luxury community replete with underground homes. There will also be air-lock blast doors designed for people worried about a dirty bomb or other disaster and off-grid energy and water production.
The development, called Trident Lakes, is northeast of Dallas.
Residents will enjoy an equestrian center, 18-hole golf course, polo fields, zip lines and gun ranges. Retail shops, restaurants and a row of helipads are also in the works. For those looking to “get away,” they’ll also be able to enjoy three white sand beaches and a neighborhood spa.

Two likely cougars, or mountain lions, have been spotted in northern Minnesota — fighting. The exceedingly rare event — wildlife officials aren't aware of two cougars being spotted together in Minnesota before — raises the possibility that one could have been a female. |

Smith & Wesson Holding Corp., maker of handguns carried by Civil War soldiers and Clint Eastwood’s 1970s police character Dirty Harry, is looking to change its name. The board already approved a new moniker for the 164-year-old company starting Jan. 1: American Outdoor Brands Corp. Investors will vote on the change at a Dec. 13 meeting, Smith & Wesson said in a statement last week. The change only affects the holding company, not the brand name of its guns. |

One state lawmaker intends to introduce a bill to allow licensed gun owners to carry weapons on the grounds of private schools. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that State Rep. Jesse Kremer (R-Kewaskum) said the state's concealed carry law needs to be adjusted to match the federal Gun-Free School Zones Act, which includes an exception for those with CCW licenses. Right now, Wisconsin law restricts permit holders from taking their weapons on school grounds.

We have a winner! It is a Henry Big Boy Steel lever-action rifle, a product that I previously considered to be second rate from a company that I held in low regard. A disclaimer is in order, but first things first. My Henry Big Boy Steel is chambered in the obscure .41 Remington Magnum. It is the only factory rifle currently in production so configured, and is the only reason I invested.

Now well into its second hundred years, it’s a little odd to think of 9 mm Luger as a “modern” cartridge. Yet when you look at all the continuing development effort focused on Georg Luger’s .355, there’s simply no denying he must have gotten an awful lot of things right. Otherwise, we’d have moved on as we have from so many other cartridges of the era.

On a turkey hunt near Newcastle, Nebraska last spring, Mark Wieseler and Brian Petzoldt hosted military veterans, a couple of whom had never been turkey hunting before. Unfamiliar with using a turkey call, the veterans watched and listened as Petzoldt, a Winside, Nebraska veteran, called out to attract the birds. By the end of the trip, the two rookie turkey hunters had not only tried the call themselves, but had become pretty good at it and were having a great time. |
