Wisconsin's concealed weapons law clearly conflicts with its recently adopted constitutional amendment guaranteeing the right to "bear arms" for "defense" and other "lawful purposes." The amendment, however, didn't keep the state from prosecuting a store owner who put a gun in his pocket -- after hours and IN HIS OWN STORE!
It's great that the State Supreme Court has taken the case, but, knowing a bit about who's on that court, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a favorable outcome. |

"All guns sold in Arizona should have trigger locks to cut down on teen deaths, a special state panel is recommending."
"The report by the Arizona Child Fatality Review Team shows that one out of every four deaths of those age 17 and under last year could have been prevented. A big portion of those were from automobile accidents where safety belts might have saved lives."
"But the study also noted that homicides of children ballooned from 17 in 2000 to 39 last year; suicides increased to 28 from 20." ...
CONSIDER...
These folks don't tell us how many of those deaths were drug-related turf warfare killings -- or even how many of those homicides were by firearm. They also don't tell us if they include the justifiable homicides of minors last year -- the ones shot by citizens, or police officers, in self-defense.
Take away all of those, and there may have been one or two preventable deaths due to parental negligence. But who's to say that a negligent parent is going to stop being negligent merely because the anti-gun fanatics tell them to be responsible?

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
"And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling in terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand? [...] The Organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin's thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt!" —Alexander Solzhenitsyn, The Gulag Archipelago (Chapter 1 "Arrest") |
